To think this card is grim and not appropriate in a shop where children can see it?

Just that really.

Went into Scribbler to get a birthday card DS10 was with me and saw this. I thought it was grim and shouldn’t be on view in a high street shop where children can see it.

Most card shops have some quite risqué cards. It’s been a thing since the 90s at least.

Magnited · 07/01/2022 19:05

So unfunny though. Fails on every level.

Changemaname1 · 07/01/2022 19:05

God only on mumsnet

Shouldn’t have took dc in there clearly

TheYearOfSmallThings · 07/01/2022 19:08

I voted YANBU but that was because I got mixed up between Scribbler and Smiggle.

Bpickle1 · 07/01/2022 19:08

Honestly not everything in this world was made with you and your angels in mind. Get a grip.

NoNameNoOne · 07/01/2022 19:09

Frantically searching to find vulgar, abuse and "grim" cards for everyone of my work colleagues as "jokes", obviously not because offending them will give me a sense of revenge for them all being like dementors....

OGenkiDesuKa · 07/01/2022 19:10

I need to know more about the Tesco card

CuriousSurrey · 07/01/2022 19:11

I think you need to stick to Clintons!

People claiming 'parenting fail' are totally wrong.
Unless Scribbler have a notice at the entrance stating "Not suitable for children", how would customers know?
in fact, it would be very simple & inexpensive for them to implement but, of course, they won't because they don't want customers choosing to shop elsewhere. They want to stock adult stuff but refuse to take any responsibility for it.
Stop making excuses for shitty, irresponsible retailers & demand they do better.

ilovesooty · 07/01/2022 19:18

@TickleMyFanny

Why is every fucking thing 'grim' on here
My thoughts exactly. So overused and lazy.
MalbecMakesMeHappy · 07/01/2022 19:21

I'm sure our local Scribbler store has a sign on the door warning it has adult content on view and may not be appropriate for children..

YABU - It's not up to shops to make everything child appropriate, it's up to parents to choose which shops they take their kids in. It's well known for cards of that ilk so not really unexpected

Catswhisky · 07/01/2022 19:22

I’ve never heard of Scribbler. I’ve just googled and the photos of my nearest store show it looks like and other card shop, bright green paint and snazzy logo, so I would have just walked in with my kids.
When I zoom in I can see there is a notice on the window warning of adult humour with PG on it, but it’s next to other notices about offers and I probably wouldn’t notice it if I was shopping.

slimshady18 · 07/01/2022 19:22

@Etinoxaurus

I ripped a rude card up in Tesco’s once 😬 Scribblers is different though.
and what exactly did you achieve by doing that?
MrsGinnyM · 07/01/2022 19:22

I'd not heard of Scribbler before reading this thread and I've obviously not been missing anything! Even looking for birthday cards on Amazon, Moonpig, FunkyPigeon, eBay and so on while stuck at home recently was a pearl-clutching nightmare, on my own and especially with the DCs alongside. One site had an option to filter rude/offensive cards out, and so that one got all my business. Sure, it's personal choice whether or not you buy them, but the rest of us shouldn't be forced to see them.

Strawberrycreams4eva · 07/01/2022 19:23

It doesn’t make any sense. Among stiff competition, that is the most offensive thing about it.

Horst · 07/01/2022 19:23

I’m so buying that card for my brother for his birthday Grin love a good crude card.

rach2713 · 07/01/2022 19:24

Im guessing scribbler is like a ann summers for cards Grin

WorraLiberty · 07/01/2022 19:24

Well according to this BBC news report from 2017 all Scribbler stores display a warning?

saraclara · 07/01/2022 19:25

I made the mistake of going into scribblers, oblivious.

You can't compare it to going into Anne Summers. You know from the window display what AS is selling. Scribblers looks like any other card shop, and if anything the brand name and sign look particularly family friendly.

I think their cards are grim, and I'm far from prudish.

BoredZelda · 07/01/2022 19:26

It's the whole thing there. Parenting fail, the shop isn't to blame.

I wouldn’t have known that though, I’ve never heard of it. If I were out shopping and needed a card and it looked like a card shop Ike have gone in. Something at the door to warn parents of young children might be an idea.

saraclara · 07/01/2022 19:26

I certainly didn't see one.
PolytheneRam · 07/01/2022 19:27

Won't somebody think of the children?!

WindyState · 07/01/2022 19:27

You might find it "grim" but other people do not because, shockingly, humour is a subjective thing. If you don't like it, don't buy it.

Pissing myself at the thought of people actually complaining to the staff about the cards though. That's like going into a sex shop and complaining that they sell dildos.

BoredZelda · 07/01/2022 19:28

Ahh, yes something obvious might be an idea.
