To think this card is grim and not appropriate in a shop where children can see it?

Just that really.

Went into Scribbler to get a birthday card DS10 was with me and saw this. I thought it was grim and shouldn’t be on view in a high street shop where children can see it.

@Etinoxaurus

I ripped a rude card up in Tesco’s once 😬 Scribblers is different though.
Wow! How bad was it?
LyndaSnellsSniff · 07/01/2022 18:47

I’m reminded of the time I was working in a shop which sold garden accessories, including little wooden hanging signs with various sayings. One of them said, “Piss off, I’m gardening!” A customer complained to me that it was too low down and that 3 year olds might see it. I told her most 3 year olds can’t read, so…

goawaystormy · 07/01/2022 18:47

@Etinoxaurus

So you purposefully destroyed something in a shop, didn't pay for the damage, and walked off. Wow so mature Hmm not like you could've just rolled your eyes, put it back and walked away

pengu · 07/01/2022 18:48

This is the weirdest mumsnet thread I've read in ages.

WorraLiberty · 07/01/2022 18:50

I think we should all pop round to Etinoxaurus house and destroy anything we don't like Grin

All the crochet and live, laugh, love signs.

I kid I kid

@CinstonWhurchill

FGS! You are not only being unreasonable... you are being ridiculous!

Have an age appropriate conversation with your child, should they observe/question these things.

The world of retail and consumerism cannot solely revolve around your child.

When I was a teenager, many moons ago, I worked in a newsagents. The owner stocked 'adult' magazines, but kept them on the top shelf. Do you think it would be fine then @CinstoneWurchill to keep pornographic merchandise on the lower shelves, where children could see them?
TheOriginalEmu · 07/01/2022 18:52

@Etinoxaurus

No one saw me, I was up for a scrap over it though. I’ll see if I can find it.
So you ripped up a card, didn’t pay for it, and you think you did something there? Weird.
Clearlynotmyname · 07/01/2022 18:52

I didn't know this about scribbler. You live and learn! Either way I could not get worked up about this

TheOriginalEmu · 07/01/2022 18:53

@TurkeyRoastvBubbleandSqueek that’s a weird analogy.

pengu · 07/01/2022 18:53

I can't imagine any card stocked in Tesco would even be that bad.

Flabbyflabberson · 07/01/2022 18:54

Really weird. Try again!

slashlover · 07/01/2022 18:56

@escapingthecity

I once complained about the cards in there - I was offended, not for my kids! - and got such a rude response that I've never shopped in there since.
Surely that's like going into Anne Summers and complaining that they have sexy underwear?

Children could still see them on the top shelves in almost every newsagents (70s/80s). The covers had mostly topless women on them if I remember rightly.

CheshireKitten123 · 07/01/2022 18:57

That's disgusting.

bighev · 07/01/2022 18:59

I don’t think that card is particularly rude. Scribbler’s card are meant to rude and adult themed.

Santaslittlemelter · 07/01/2022 18:59

@WorraLiberty

If kids don't know what sex is then it won't affect them.

If they do know what sex is, how is knowing some people have anal sex going to affect them?

A fair question.

Anal sex is a perfectly acceptable acitivity between conscenting adults. And for some people is the main form of intimate relationships. So what exactly is so wrong here?

Wife2b · 07/01/2022 19:00

There are a lot more upsetting and traumatic things in the world than rude cards. The children will be ok.

bighev · 07/01/2022 19:00

@Santaslittlemelter totally agree

TickleMyFanny · 07/01/2022 19:01

Why is every fucking thing 'grim' on here

TickleMyFanny · 07/01/2022 19:02

And - I laughed at that card and sent it to my DH who now thinks I'm up for it Shock Hmm Grin

Redsquirrel5 · 07/01/2022 19:03

OP
I have never heard of the shop either we don’t have one here and I would have gone in like you just thinking it was a card shop. There should be some sort of warning on the door. Don’t know if it would be worth writing to Head office and appeal to them about placing cards higher or in a different section but looking at the type they sell it might be unlikely they would take any notice.

A lot of 10 year olds are still quite innocent and I wouldn’t like to explain it.
At least you will know not to go in there again.

Scribblers is different though.

I regularly go into Tesco and throw all the meat products out the door because I'm a vegetarian. Also all the cat food because I have a dog.

AutumnAlmanack · 07/01/2022 19:03

Well thank you OP - having seen that, I will never ever go into that shop. Absolutely awful - whatever happened to taste?
