Just that really.

Went into Scribbler to get a birthday card DS10 was with me and saw this. I thought it was grim and shouldn’t be on view in a high street shop where children can see it.

Please post a link to the Tesco card

I’m hanging on ....

Ballcactus · 07/01/2022 20:18

If it hurts in the morning you’ve done it wrong…

nuancedcloud · 07/01/2022 20:19

Never knew Scribbler was like this!! Thanks for your heads up, will swerve when with the kids!

BiscuitLover3678 · 07/01/2022 20:22

It’s not great but like others have said, it’s full of cards like that. He probably won’t think too much of it as is still too innocent to get the full idea.

Hastina · 07/01/2022 20:22

Thanks. Won't bother going in there.

Lineofconcepcion · 07/01/2022 20:23
@Etinoxaurus I hope you paid for it, if not that's stealing. Just because something isn't to your taste doesn't mean you can go around destroying it Hmm

@PurpleRainlnTheSky

You're not a prude for finding it unfunny, people's humour differs. You are a prude if you think it's vulgar or horrible and no one should make them.
It wasn't stealing it was trespass to goods, which is a civil matter, or at a stretch criminal damage.

Againstmachine · 07/01/2022 20:29

People claiming 'parenting fail' are totally wrong.
Unless Scribbler have a notice at the entrance stating "Not suitable for children", how would customers know?

They do but by same token shops shouldnt have to be children friendly at all times.

FlimFlamAndJudy · 07/01/2022 20:46

Do you really have ten children, OP? I'm in awe, and very jealous, if so.

@unwicked

Yes it is inappropriate. As are all the people saying that we should all magically know that this shop is "known for this" and actually an adult shop. Then it should say so on the door. I've bought things from there and don't remember anything rude. One was just a card with googly eyes.
You can "magically" know by reading the signs which they have as you go in.

HTH.

lightisnotwhite · 07/01/2022 20:55

Why not? Unless they are over 18 environments they should be suitable for children. Much better to have tame and non offensive public spaces.

AlDanvers · 07/01/2022 20:57

@BoredZelda

Pissing myself at the thought of people actually complaining to the staff about the cards though. That's like going into a sex shop and complaining that they sell dildos.

Only if you are aware you are going in to a sex shop. If you went in to what you thought was a general store and found it selling dildos, you’d complain, no?

No. I would think I had made an incorrect assumption about the shop then had a look around and maybe made a purchase

@TurkeyRoastvBubbleandSqueek if the newsagent you worked in was actually just am adult book store, then it would have been pwrfectly reasonable for them to be on display on any shelf.

Nope it's upto you not to be offended, not every shop is for you.

Dinosaurwoman · 07/01/2022 21:03

I went I there to get my son a grownups’ birthday card, there was nothing I could buy for him, they were all totally inappropriate, especially for a parent to send their adult child. (Not that you’d want to send them to a child)
And what is this obsession with anal sex.
If you didn’t want to reference alcoholism or anal there was slim pickings.

saraclara · 07/01/2022 21:06

Where, exactly, am I supposed to see a warning sign at this store?

To think this card is grim and not appropriate in a shop where children can see it?
DillDanding · 07/01/2022 21:06

I simply wouldn't take young kids into Scribbler. Most people know they stock rude/adult/shocking cards.

CoolShoeshine · 07/01/2022 21:08

I used to love looking at the smutty seaside postcards when I was little (many moons ago)

saraclara · 07/01/2022 21:09

...or these?

Really? Do you think so?
mollypuss1 · 07/01/2022 21:10

Jesus wept.

It’s a card shop with a warning on the door that it may be inappropriate for children. If you didn’t see this then that’s your fault not the shop’s fault.

I’m old enough to remember dirty magazines on the top shelf in newsagents and page 3 girls in the newspapers when I was a kid and I’m pretty sure I survived the ‘trauma’, just as any kid who accidentally sees reference to bum sex will also.

Dibbydoos · 07/01/2022 21:14

Good to know though as never tried it. Now def won't ever try it either Grin

Cofifeefee · 07/01/2022 21:20

I don't think it's very funny but I don't see how it's grim or vile.

It's ridiculous to expect every shop to only stock items suitable for children - how do you handle your child seeing the front page of tabloid newspapers in shops?

Bottom right, there's the PG warning, clearly it has been moved for the Mother's Day window display ... but it is at child height
