Woman across the street staring into my house

Littlejayx · 07/01/2022 13:57

I live on a busy road in a large village, over the past few weeks I have been home more due to home working starting up again. I used to get alerts from my lighting system that ‘living room had been triggered’ and thought it must be passing traffic, until I was sat down working today to see a neighbour stood scouring my whole living room (not seeing me due to positioning) then light sensor turned on (was off as I hadn’t moved)

I’ve had quite a few run ins with her about letting her dog foul outside my front door/drive, using my bins and trying to stop my Gardner trimming hedges. What do I do? 😩 last time I spoke to her she shouted at me on the street and threatened to report me for assault!

I’m living alone with two young children and hate the thought of her stood looking in my house

Set the alarm off next time but more importantly report back here on her reaction.

AngelinaFibres · 07/01/2022 16:22

You can get signs online / b and q type place that say CCTV recording in progress. Put it in your window. They are usually red. She can't miss it. Hopefully she will think you are recording her weirdness and take herself elsewhere.

Mummy10197 · 07/01/2022 16:23

Post on wrong thread sorry!

spiderlight · 07/01/2022 16:23

You need one of these to stand in the window. Or possibly this one

AngelinaFibres · 07/01/2022 16:25

@BasketBlocks

Get a massive sign that says “F* OFF NOSEY” and put it up in your living room directly opposite the window.

Alternatively take a photo of her looking in your window, have it blown up to large size and printed and put that directly opposite the window, so when she looks in she sees herself looking back.

Or a giant PVC banner. Not expensive to have printed. Fix it to you front wall. Perhaps add big text "stop looking into my windows "
AngelinaFibres · 07/01/2022 16:26

@ChateauMargaux

I was going to suggest a motion triggered light but setting the alarm off every time she does it is perfect!!
Or both. Plus sound of huge dog barking
WhiteXmas99 · 07/01/2022 16:26

Get a halloween style skull mask, black cloak and a large knife.

Next time she does this, slowly move into her line of sight and enjoy the spectacle as she spots you and flees in horror.

She will not be back.

GreekGod · 07/01/2022 16:29

my goodness, we had a neighbour like this at our old house, quite freaky really as often when i went to shut the curtains, there she was standing there looking into our living room.....DH said to ignore but it was horrible, one of the reasons we left actually

Did you never ask her why she was doing this?
AngelinaFibres · 07/01/2022 16:31

@Tara336

We have nosy neighbours who like to watch our TV which is hung on the wall, they then started discussing what we watch with other neighbours and decided that DH must gamble because he regularly falls asleep in front of the TV and sometimes the late night casino programmes come on after whatever it was he was watching. They genuinely cannot see why we are pissed off with them!
Wow some people have really ,really tiny lives SmileSmile
BasiliskStare · 07/01/2022 16:31

If you have an alarm or movement activated lights I would put this on - in our last house ( near to a pub ) we had a high hedge & once a chap would come in to do a quick wee behind the hedge - he moved pretty quickly when the lights went on ( subsequently we put a lock on the gate ) - otherwise film over lower windows so she can't see in . If you catch her doing it then ask why she is doing it and explain she is not allowed into your front garden. I suspect you have done many of these things but persistence I reckon is your friend here and a diary - & then see where it goes from there.

Add a terrible scream as she turns to run. Or an evil laugh.
AngelinaFibres · 07/01/2022 16:33

Can you get jet sprinklers that you can set off when you see her in the right place.

Bluebluemoon · 07/01/2022 16:37

Wow, some people have far too much time on their hands don't they? It sounds like she is plotting some king of revenge or something!

Whatever you do, I think you definitely need to let her know that you've clocked her watching your house and that you have it on camera. This should deter her from doing anything spiteful.

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 07/01/2022 16:37

Set the alarm off every time, collect all the footage, edit it together and flog to you tube

Bluntness100 · 07/01/2022 16:37

You’re sitting in yout living room in the dark and she comes up and stares in your window?

GreekGod · 07/01/2022 16:38

@CustardySergeant

Yes, I did only once though and she totally denied it but still kept doing it. Said I must have been mistaken. When i used to walk out of the house with the 3 DC and put them in the car etc, she often stared from her living room, glad we left, never had that problem again with any other neighbours

ThatLibraryMiss · 07/01/2022 16:48

Do you think she might be standing there waiting for her dog to have a pee?

Wow, it took a lot of posts for someone to come up with a sensible explanation that doesn't involve a crazy neighbour.

I spend a lot of time gazing aimlessly while Small Dog checks his wee-mail. OP did say that her own dog "has been very interested in the area near the window".

I'm not sure that "my neighbour comes onto my property to let her dog do its business" is much less crazy or anti-social than coming to look through the windows.

Tara336 · 07/01/2022 17:03

@BlissfullyIgnorant my DD suggested we put The Purge films on 😂

oakleaffy · 07/01/2022 17:08

@FourTeaFallOut

Put your hands on your hips and go stare her out.
@Littlejayx I’d really advise this. A long, hard, cold unblinking stare.

She’s a bully, and bullies crumble when confronted
If necessary, stand on something so you are taller than her-
The old goat probably won’t gawk at you again.

Or get that window film stuff.
She sounds like a right nutter, horrid baggage!

I’d not stand for it
We had a nutter woman living near us once- you have to brazen them out.

You can do it!
Good luck!

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 07/01/2022 17:10

As you have a dog, could you leave a strategically hidden dog poo where she stands to look into your windows, @Littlejayx? If she has to scrape dog poo off her shoes a few times, maybe that will put her off.

You think going through someone's gate, passing their front door and then standing in their walled garden waiting for your dog to pee is a sensible explanation?

I actually Laughed out loud at that! Superb😂💯
nitsandwormsdodger · 07/01/2022 17:13

Do you mean coming up to the window standing and staring having walked the 3 foot front garden on your property?

I’m confused ??you make it sound like she turns to looks in as she walks past in the pavement ??
