Woman across the street staring into my house

Littlejayx · 07/01/2022 13:57

I live on a busy road in a large village, over the past few weeks I have been home more due to home working starting up again. I used to get alerts from my lighting system that ‘living room had been triggered’ and thought it must be passing traffic, until I was sat down working today to see a neighbour stood scouring my whole living room (not seeing me due to positioning) then light sensor turned on (was off as I hadn’t moved)

I’ve had quite a few run ins with her about letting her dog foul outside my front door/drive, using my bins and trying to stop my Gardner trimming hedges. What do I do? 😩 last time I spoke to her she shouted at me on the street and threatened to report me for assault!

I’m living alone with two young children and hate the thought of her stood looking in my house

I was going to suggest a motion triggered light but setting the alarm off every time she does it is perfect!!

GodspeedJune · 07/01/2022 14:39

Is she standing in your garden to do this. It sounds really worrying and strange behaviour.

Getyourjinglebellsinarow · 07/01/2022 14:42

Could you put a sign just far enough from the window that only she sees it saying "fuck off you creep."

airforsharon · 07/01/2022 14:43

Do you have a local community support police officer? I'd flag it up with them, tbh. She's erratic & verbally abusive, and staring into your home several times a week is not on. It needs nipping in the bud now.

Whoswhohere · 07/01/2022 14:43

Agree with pp. She seems unhinged. Maybe to deter her, put up a sigh saying something like 'smile you're on camera' If she thinks she's being recorded she might think twice about her actions. Also think about getting a security camera just incase things escalate.

MysticCT · 07/01/2022 14:50

I had this when I was a teenager living at home, with a local busybody who used to stare in every time she walked past.I stuck a big notice in the window when I knew she would see it, saying if you can read this you are being nosy. She never looked again.

OnTheBenchOfDoom · 07/01/2022 14:56

Film her doing it, especially if you are going to set off the siren every time she looks in. Draw attention to her behaviour. As she is a foul mouthed threatening sort I would look to install a camera and keep a diary.

SpookyScarySkeletons · 07/01/2022 14:57

Change your wifi to "I can see you staring through my window"

LaurieFairyCake · 07/01/2022 15:00

Well she's actually going in your 3 foot garden to stare in your window - put big pots there with plants in so she can't actually stand in front of the window ?

Magnited · 07/01/2022 15:05

Landmines.

StoneofDestiny · 07/01/2022 15:12

She's a nut + but yes, get Venetians up so you can position them so you still get light into your home and see out, but she can't see in.

FrankGrillosWrist · 07/01/2022 15:14

If you don't feel that you could tackle her you could hammer on the window to her.

Or go & look though her window after she's looked through yours.

Take a photo of her looking through the window.

Call the police & tell them you think she's casing the joint.

OakRowan · 07/01/2022 15:16

Start reporting it each time you know it has happened, ring non emergency police number and ask their advice on what to do next, she is harassing you. If you feel able to go out and ask her to leave next time, then ring the policeto report again. She walks into your front garden and up to your front windows to look into your home? Awful for you.

SmellyNelliey · 07/01/2022 15:17

We have a neighbour like this, who purposely uses her back door, so she can walk past my house to the point I've always got my curtains closed!! We also live in a village, our next door neighbours are the worst though we can't even have visitors or park the car on our own front🤯🤯

babysleephelp · 07/01/2022 15:21

🤯 what on earth are people looking at though?!?!?!
Porcupineintherough · 07/01/2022 15:21

If she's standing in the public highway when she's looking in then there is little you can do other than obscure her view (or yes, try setting off the alarm). Presuming she's not doing this for hours at a time, police aren't going to be interested and it might be better not to escalate the situation.

ElftonWednesday · 07/01/2022 15:22

Go and stare into her house.

KO81 · 07/01/2022 15:24

I wouldn’t have been able to resist popping up by the window, right in front of her, to scare the crap out of her. Before opening it and asking her what she wants.

She sounds mental. I think ignoring her is your best bet though, she sounds a little loopy.

SalsaLove · 07/01/2022 15:25

Get a vicious barking dog alarm.

MedusasBadHairDay · 07/01/2022 15:27

We used to have a neighbour who did that, she wasn't the type to yell and swear though, so I just used to glare at her and she'd scuttle off. Didn't stop her from trying it again though. We used to spend a lot of time with the curtains closed.

Can safely say we were never doing anything interesting for her to stare at, she was just horrendously nosey. Had to rush DD to hospital in an ambulance in the middle of the night once and she decided to come out and sweep her front yard, at 1am, like she really thought we wouldn't know what she was doing?!

3scape · 07/01/2022 15:29

Definitely the alarm going off. And long enough so your neighbours start to notice it's her setting it off.

TangfasticsAreFantastic · 07/01/2022 15:29

I would definitely either use the remote setting off next time she does it, or hide just out of sight and then jump in front of the window shouting "BOO!"

Nosey cow!

TangfasticsAreFantastic · 07/01/2022 15:30

Voile curtains still let the light through though and would obscure her viewing, if you can face having them.

EricaToe · 07/01/2022 15:32

If she's physically coming to stand on your property (yard in front of window) then I would log it with non emergency police number.

If she's doing it from the pavement there's not much more you can do than get a fake (or real) cctv camera put up to deter her.

But if it's on your property OP, contact the police. Friend had similar situation once and she came home one night to find neighbour sat in living room, she'd broken the window to get in. People can be weird.

Theunamedcat · 07/01/2022 15:36

Grease the pointless yard?
