Woman across the street staring into my house

Littlejayx · 07/01/2022 13:57

I live on a busy road in a large village, over the past few weeks I have been home more due to home working starting up again. I used to get alerts from my lighting system that ‘living room had been triggered’ and thought it must be passing traffic, until I was sat down working today to see a neighbour stood scouring my whole living room (not seeing me due to positioning) then light sensor turned on (was off as I hadn’t moved)

I’ve had quite a few run ins with her about letting her dog foul outside my front door/drive, using my bins and trying to stop my Gardner trimming hedges. What do I do? 😩 last time I spoke to her she shouted at me on the street and threatened to report me for assault!

I’m living alone with two young children and hate the thought of her stood looking in my house

Put up privacy film on your front window. It allows light in but people can't see in.

Ohdofuckofdear · 07/01/2022 23:55

OP I've just had a very evil but very funny thought

Buy the ugliest, scariest Halloween mask that you can and when your sensor goes off jump in front of the window and shout Boo as loud as you can Grin

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 08/01/2022 00:29

@SurferRona

C’mon PPs, the correct mumsnet response here is motion activated alarm which will shout out to her: “Trunky want a bun?” Grin Grin
How could I have forgotten this! Thank you for reminding me, @SurferRona.
ZombiePara · 08/01/2022 00:32

I second setting the alarm off...

And also a remote set off/sensor on a sprinkler. She can't complain really - could even have a plant pot near it..

TheUnquestionedAnswer · 08/01/2022 00:48

Do one of those cabaret dances, like Ken and Barbie did in Stay Close. That'll get rid.Grin

Electriq · 08/01/2022 01:10

Get yourself a little camera, and place a small row of plant pots.

Ponoka7 · 08/01/2022 04:48

"I do have police involvement with the removal of my abusive partner from the property"

Could it be concern then?

HomeTheatreSystem · 08/01/2022 04:58

@Magnited

Landmines.
If only Grin
Dottybackorcid · 08/01/2022 05:04

Set up a strobe light on a tripod facing your window. Attach it to a smart plug. Set it off with your mobile phone or contact it to your alarm system. So it goes off every time she looks in.

Won't bloody look for long will blind her silly every time she tries. Grin

Alip1965 · 08/01/2022 05:10

She's a freak for sure. I would have a word with the local pcso. Keep a log and next time take her photo? Or put a sign on window saying smile your on cctv and been recorded.

Zonder · 08/01/2022 05:46

I would speak to the pcso and keep a log. And get the bell on the gate.

RenegadeMasterx · 08/01/2022 06:00

This would shit the life out of me. It's a fear or mine actually when I go into my kitchen etc I'm so scared to look out of the window. I'd say to her that you'll be contacting the police as it's harassment and weird as you have two young children in the house too. Creep!

QOD · 08/01/2022 06:12

@Littlejayx I’m not clear/it’s not clear as to whether she’s coming over your tiny wall and onto your land or just (still out of order) standing pavement side staring

Joystir59 · 08/01/2022 06:21

I'd call the police. She is trespassing repeatedly.

Joystir59 · 08/01/2022 06:23

Good luck talking to her

nuancedcloud · 08/01/2022 06:54

I want to know what she says OP!

IamtheDevilsAvocado · 08/01/2022 07:13

Given what you said re DV. I wouldn't be talking to her direct... As there is an outside chance that she's reporting back...

I sincerely hope not.

I would be calling the local police domestic violence team and tell them your background and your concerns about this woman and how you're worried about your kids'/your safety.

Any decent officer would take this seriously... This does sound definitely beyond someone just glancing in when there dog is having a wee....

She is intentionally coming into your property (the small 3 ft area if I've understood it correctly) and peering into your windows.

Do you know her name? Which house she lives in?

JustUseTheDoorSanta · 08/01/2022 07:21

Take photographs every time, then set off the alarm so she goes away. The photographs are evidence to the police.

I couldn't understand the comment about snow, is she actually in your front garden or on the pavement?

Littlejayx · 08/01/2022 10:45

I may have one of those v for vendetta masks from Halloween I might just stand staring back 😂

For the people not understanding the pointless yardy bit this is a similar layout but mines not gated

Littlejayx · 08/01/2022 10:46

So as it was snowy near me it’s obvious when someone has been looking in because I don’t stand anywhere near 😩. I would get a gate but the wall is smaller than that google photo so would look odd!

CounsellorTroi · 08/01/2022 11:01

Go upstairs, quietly open a window above her then shout very suddenly “Can I help you?”

OakRowan · 08/01/2022 11:14

Have you reported it yet OP, ring the police (non emergency and tell them what is happening, get advice. Take a photo of the snow foot prints!

Porcupineintherough · 08/01/2022 11:21

OP sorry, is she coming into your yard to stare through the window. I think from what you are saying she is but please confirm because it makes a difference as to what your options are.

ChiefStockingStuffer · 08/01/2022 11:41

Put up security cameras.
Seriously.
One right above the front doorway and one outside the back that you can use with your phone. We've put them up; they're brilliant.

FluffyBooBoo · 08/01/2022 15:25

I have a small wall and pointless 3ft yard to the window so she’s walking past the front door into the pointless yard to stare in

I'm not sure why people are having troubles understanding this. It's clear that the neighbour is walkinginto the pointless yard. So is on ops property.
