Nobody’s child

Little Mistress

Never fully dressed.

Im sure there are more.

I just don’t get it. It’s cringe and depressed.

Also, ‘never fully dressed’ now do children’s clothing too. I just could not buy my child clothing from a company with that name. I don’t know if I’m reading it wrong, I don’t think I am, it just seems to have some kind of suggestive implication.

I can't abide musicals or cute ginger orphans and I did not know that lyric.

I was watching SATC dubbed into an Eastern European language and they rendered swanky wedding dress designer Vera Wang as "Vera Wank."Grin

immersivereader · 05/01/2022 02:31

Just remembered about FCUK because of this thread. My parents were outraged

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 05/01/2022 03:14

I know the lyrics but I didn't know they were from Annie, don't think I've seen it in about 30 years

I had loads of fcuk as a teen. I always think dirty fries/burger are named that way because they are not clean eating and they look like you'd end up with it all over yourself

FlorisApple · 05/01/2022 03:56

There's an online retailer I buy a lot of clothes from here in Australia; it's recently started stocking a UK brand called "Pretty Vacant"; I like some of
their clothes, but the name just turns me off, so I've never bought any of them; I wonder if retailers think about these things, or are there an equal number of people who are attracted by the name?

Likewise, the ethical, toilet paper subscription company called "Who gives a crap?"; I just find it crass, and don't want a box box branded with the name left on my doorstep.

Somanysocks · 05/01/2022 03:59

@Sparklingbrook

Shall I hire a bus so that the uncultured of us on MN can go and see Annie and redeem ourselves?**

Well you could but fear it would be an empty bus. I'm 50s and never seen it as it sounds like a dreadful film.

Missey85 · 05/01/2022 04:12

This treads hilarious! OP you think a kid is thinking that? No its only adults like you that need something to get your knickers in a knot about a kids thinking none of this find something worth complaining about

malificent7 · 05/01/2022 04:36

Little mistress gets my goat...yuck!

When my
Eldest was a teen ( she's 25 now ) I remember miss sexy being the brand all the kids wanted for their school trousers 

Are you sure you don’t mean Miss Sixty?

No, I remember Miss Sixty from when I was a teen in the 90s.
There was a brand called Miss Sexy that was (very briefly) extremely popular around 2012 (when my DDs were early teens) that seemed to exclusively make a type of black stretchy trousers that all the girls wanted to wear for school.
Sorry for the Fail link, but this was the only evidence I could find of them ever being "a thing"

jeepersdeepers · 05/01/2022 06:58

Even now, every single one of my 12 yo daughter’s friends has seen it. And seen the new version which has the same song, albeit with updated references sung by Sia.

I don't think many posters here are 12 though & probably haven't watched the remake.

ArblemarzipanTFruitcake · 05/01/2022 07:14

I've never liked the clothing brand name 'Pretty Little Thing'.

If it were things in the plural that would be OK as it would sound like the 'things' were the garment, but in the singular it sounds like the 'thing' is the wearer.

OhGiveUp · 05/01/2022 07:19

@WithANameLikeDaniCalifornia I still do 🙂

count me in for the bus.

The Never Fully Dressed thing - i vaguely thought it was because so many of the models don't actually have the clothes completely on. They're always unbuttoned and/or hanging off their bodies.....

Laiste · 05/01/2022 08:21

It's shite quality for the price as well. NFD.

TWICE i've been lured in and twice i've sent the stuff straight back.
Humph.

sageandbasil · 05/01/2022 08:24

I hadn't really thought about it till now actually. There's an online shop called DLSB- Dirty little style bitch.

Men don't get shops like Style Wanker, fashion knobhead

Withnailandyou · 05/01/2022 08:36

I mean I wore a little mistress dress to my prom a good 10 years ago, its not a new brand

We rewatched old top of the pops the other day and we're suprised at how revealing a lot of the clothes were.

Hippychicken1 · 05/01/2022 08:41

God I could sing the words to pretty much all of the songs in Annie 😂
I’m either really old or some of you didn’t have a childhood 😂

WalkersAreNotTheOnlyCrisps · 05/01/2022 08:45

🙋🏼‍♀️ I'm 42 and have never watched Annie in my life. I'm aware of "Hard knock life" but that's through the Jay-Z song.
I agree with you about the names OP.

JamieTartt · 05/01/2022 08:51

Nasty Gal just sounds ridiculous in my accent. Which is a shame as I used to get some bits from there and then felt silly when people asked and I had to say it out loud.

PlanktonsComputerWife · 05/01/2022 08:53

Wasn't "little mistress" a parental term of affection in a classic children's novel?

I want to say it described Sara Crewe in "A Little Princess" but I don't think that's right.

It was definitely in something I re-read a lot as a kid.

Laiste · 05/01/2022 08:58

''Fashion Knobhead'' has just made me genuinely lol Grin

earlydoors42 · 05/01/2022 09:05

And me!! Fashion Knobhead!

diddl · 05/01/2022 09:21

@FallonCarringtonWannabe

I had no idea about this song Im quite shocked an adult has never seen Annie or heard the song youre never fully dressed without a smile.
Why?

The only song I know from Annie is the sun will come out tomorrow.

Never seen the film.

I think it was hearing that song that made me never want to watch it!
