Nobody’s child

Little Mistress

Never fully dressed.

Im sure there are more.

I just don’t get it. It’s cringe and depressed.

Also, ‘never fully dressed’ now do children’s clothing too. I just could not buy my child clothing from a company with that name. I don’t know if I’m reading it wrong, I don’t think I am, it just seems to have some kind of suggestive implication.

AIBU?

Dear me. Had a look at the Egg Slut site and my mouth is watering. Overall, ‘slut’ seems to go quite well with the idea of indulgence. Maybe because it also rhymes with glut.

The name is at least more inviting than that of legendary Birmingham egg cuisine specialist Mr Egg.

Bluebluemoon · 04/01/2022 22:21

Egg Slut

That's just minging 🤢

Latinorapida · 04/01/2022 22:22

@wineandsprite

Lots of restaurants refer to items as ‘filthy’ ‘filthy fries’ ‘dirty burger'

You're making that sexualised. It literally means dirty, like soil on your clothes dirty. Fucking hell, OP.

Maybe I’m just a perv then Blush

I don't like "Subdued" as a clothing brand for young women

Is your first thought really sexual? I absolutely get the association, but my first thought in the context of clothing is a subdued colour palette.

thickthighs73 · 04/01/2022 22:24

@Latinorapida
Seriously you must be very naive then

Theworkhouse · 04/01/2022 22:24

Time - David Bowie

Time – He flexes like a whore
Falls wanking to the floor
His trick is you and me, boy

JinglingHellsBells · 04/01/2022 22:26

Dont get me started on Nars - Orgasm blusher, Deep Throat blusher. and Two Faced Better than Sex mascara.

Why do they think women want this stuff?

Latinorapida · 04/01/2022 22:26

@ClaudiaWankleman

A 27 year old should recognise the song lyric. It’s part of every day culture. It’s weird to not know the song to be honest.

I disagree about the music thing too. Tupac was singing about worse things but you probably didn’t listen to them because you were an infant and that has passed you by. They don’t play explicit versions on the radio or TV and never have.

Is that weird? I’ll have to ask my friends if ‘never fully dressed’ means anything to them.

Annie the musical is part of every day culture? Really ? That’s news to me Grin I can’t tell if you’re joking.

I actually know a fair amount of Tupac… my mum used to play his cd’s on the way to school. The main ones that come to mind are… Dear Mama and I ain’t mad atcha

What's wrong with Nobodys Child? I love their clothes!

I dislike Nasty Gal I have to say.

Egg Slut just sounds horrible! Is it like an 'egg' restaurant?

The2Omicronnies · 04/01/2022 22:27

I ordered something from a company called DLSB…didn’t think anything of it until the postman dropped the parcel off and it transpired it was short for Dirty Little Style Bitch. Never again!

It is because the clothes are quite sexual and grundgy

I don't mind Orgasm or Better Than Sex (although that mascara really isn't).

I absolutely hate Deep Throat. Just.....why?

Kat Von D had lipsticks named Lolita and Underage Red. Yuk.

Yes! I bought something from there and was Shock when I saw the full name! Also, the dress was absolute shit quality.

I love your username by the way! Grin

I’m a lot older and don’t believe I’ve ever seen Annie the Musical and wouldn’t have a clue re any of the song lyrics!

HumbugWhale · 04/01/2022 22:30

I haven't heard of those brands but I actually had the same thought about Pretty Little Thing the other day, just an awful name. At best it's objectifying at worst I imagine a creepy bloke coming onto a girl "What's a pretty little thing like you doing in a place like this?" kind of comment.

Haffiana · 04/01/2022 22:30

'Clutchin' my pearls' would be a good, wholesome name for a clothing brand. Twinsets for toddlers.

Latinorapida · 04/01/2022 22:31

@Bluebluemoon

I'm sorry but this has me howling with laughter! For some reason I'm thinking of Kathy Bates in Misery ("you dirty bird!!")

I suppose it's always existed though - what about a dirty martini? I love sex on the beach cocktails but refuse to ask for them - I just point to the menu if I want one on holiday! It's a bit cringe.

Hahaha now I’m actually lolling. I forgot about that bloody film!

@dancinfeet

Never fully dressed is a short version of the saying ‘You’re Never Fully Dressed Without A Smile’ (like in the song from the musical Annie).
That's what it brought to my mind!
FallonCarringtonWannabe · 04/01/2022 22:32

I had no idea about this song
Im quite shocked an adult has never seen Annie or heard the song youre never fully dressed without a smile.

Envoitrevisage · 04/01/2022 22:32

@Latinorapida

Yes but I can’t think of a single David Bowie song that directly refers to, let alone says the words ‘sex’. Please correct me if I’m wrong

Are you serious? As well as Time, what about Sex and the Church. The lyrics have sex 49 times in it!!!

And yes, never fully dressed without a smile. Definitely a common phrase/saying/lyric.

As for dirty fries…. Is it cold up there on the moral high ground?

Curlyreine · 04/01/2022 22:33

20 years ago one of my favourite brands was 'hussy'.

I had a fluffy blue waistcoat with 'hussy' in big white letters on the back.

I was anything but a hussy, but thought I was cool AF.

And Pretty Little Thing- I thought it meant the garment. As in it sells pretty little things, like purses and the like.

I never said I’ve never seen the film!! Just that I don’t remember that song from it. I must’ve been younger than 12 at the time and I just remember not really being bothered by it… and never cared to watch it again. Yes I know it’s a classic and she’s an orphan. Beyond that I just don’t know or care. Sorry if that’s caused any offence Grin
