To ask what the hell to do about my leaking arse!

alittlebitembarrassing · 03/01/2022 22:25

Exactly as the title says. Very crass but it is a literal pain in my arse and I’m starting to feel very unwell.

Backstory: I have inflammatory bowel disease and have had my large intestine removed. I had a stoma for 10 months and then a reversal surgery joining my small intestine to my rectum. I have mild proctitis left in my rectum.

A week ago, my anus started itching and leaking fluid. It has been getting worse and worse to the point I am leaking through my underwear to my clothes, I am uncomfortably wet all of the time and it is so painful to go to the toilet that I almost vomit from the pain and am just living by having cold baths.

The leaking is mucous, I’ve developed wounds on my bum cheeks from the dampness, and it is mixed with blood and green pus.

I developed abdominal pain with it two days ago so went to A&E who were useless, have referred me to gastro (no idea how long that will take), and told me my infection markers are raised so gave me antibiotics. Nothing else.

Today I have been on off sleeping and am feeling feverish and unwell in myself. When I was at A&E my heart rate was 120 and my blood pressure was high, but they said they weren’t concerned.

I am leaking massively to the point it’s not even just damp it is like water is pouring out of me.

I don’t want to waste another 8 hours in A&E to be sent home, but I’m feeling unwell in myself now, I can’t go to the toilet properly because it absolutely kills.

What do I do?!

So pleased you have been seen in A & E. I hope you feel better today?

ScatteredMama82 · 04/01/2022 21:20

Oh OP this sounds horrendous, I’m so glad you got to hospital in the end. I really hope they can help you feel better soon.

Gilead · 04/01/2022 21:23

I feel for you, I have a stoma and still have some residual proctitis. Hope antibiotics improve things soon. 💐

Boogaloony · 04/01/2022 21:36

Hope you are ok op

BlueBlazerBlack123 · 04/01/2022 21:45

There really are some right cold hearted, stupid bastards on here aren't there?! OP you absolutely did the right thing calling an ambulance and fuck anyone who says otherwise. This whole things sounds horrendous and I really hope you get the medical attention you need. I also hope any poster after me just leaves their good wishes instead of turning your thread into a political crusade xx ❤

SockFluffInTheBath · 04/01/2022 22:20

I hope they have ‘fixed’ you OP and you’re now comfortable and resting Flowers

Blinkingbatshit · 04/01/2022 22:25

Really hope they’re getting you sorted @alittlebitembarrassing 💐

StellaGibson118 · 04/01/2022 22:28

I feel so terrible for you and I really hope that you're recovering instead of having taken a turn for the worse. We are rooting for you here. x

Ellowyn · 04/01/2022 22:51

The NHS has almost become something like the middle ages where you just stayed home and died in terrible agony, often not knowing the cause.

I get so tired of the US healthcare system bashing that goes on here.
I'm in the US, retired and got a call from my GP's office just now wanting to set me up for a complete medical exam - including cancer screening, lab work, vaccination updates, the works. It won't cost me a penny because I'm over 65. Last week I got a call to make an appointment for physical therapy, again free of charge. I've always received excellent healthcare here.

I'm so sorry for what has happened to the once great NHS and the people who have to go through hell now to get help. I think I'd be suffering from terrible health anxiety if I lived there. I hope it all gets sorted out.

I'd love to hear an update from the OP.

AmyDudley · 04/01/2022 22:52

Sending you all good wishes OP - I'm so sorry you are so very poorly and hope that you get appropriate short and longer term treatment asap and that they are keeping you comfortable in hospital. Good luck my dear Flowers

liliainterfrutices · 04/01/2022 23:43

@mathanxiety

It absolutely needs to be said when stroke patients are waiting an hour for an ambulance and heart attack patients are literally dying because there wasn’t an ambulance available

It absolutely doesn't need to be said.

How do you know the OP doesn't have sepsis?

This is not individual very sick people's problem to fix by being patient.

Agree with this. Risk of perforated bowel and sepsis is incredibly serious - in some cases as serious as either a stroke or a heart attack. It’s extraordinary that people were telling OP not to call an ambulance.
acatcalledjohn · 05/01/2022 00:00

All of you bashing the OP for calling an ambulance: If the NHS wasn't on its knees to such a level where patients are fobbed off unless they are extremely unwell, the OP wouldn't be here.

My FIL recently ended up needing an ambulance twice because of an ulcer which the NHS failed to diagnose for 4 months, despite him going to the doctors several times with symptoms of black and severely bloody stools, sudden inability to eat normally and the subsequent rapid weight loss. It was finally diagnosed after he'd gotten so weak he had a fall and hit his head. Ended up in ITU. They then released him too early and shortly thereafter he got stuck on the toilet, bleeding profusely and too weak to get up from said toilet.

The NHS is utterly broken.

I hope you are getting the treatment you deserve, OP Thanks

westcorkbookworm · 05/01/2022 00:16

Hope you got some decent treatment and are feeling a bit better, OP.

Please don't tell people not to get ambulances unless you know what you are talking about.

Please don't tell people to drive when taking codeine and when in pain unless you know what you are talking about. Just because you might be able to take morphine, it doesn't mean that you are medically qualified to comment on somebody else.

westcorkbookworm · 05/01/2022 00:17

acatcalledjohn - that's horrendous - your poor FiL. I hope he is doing better now.

acatcalledjohn · 05/01/2022 00:22

@westcorkbookworm he's improving, thank you. Luckily the head injury was minor. He's had an op and is getting further treatment for the ulcer.

If they'd diagnosed him when he first presented with symptoms he'd not have needed ambulances. Same goes for OP.

Erebedragons · 05/01/2022 00:27

As someone who’s been let down by the NHS so many times, I was shrugged off through my teenage years that my ‘tummy trouble’ was just anxiety and then when the birth of my son nearly killed us both because the NHS midwife ignored me and tried to deliver my huge , full breech son after a 12 hour labour and also tried to inject me with a drug I’m fatally allergic to shortly after this, I’d say fight for treatment and if there’s any way you can afford to get treated privately do it. I have IBD , diagnosed as IBS pain so excruciating I didn’t eat throughout my adolescence and was diagnosed with anorexia I didn’t have ,can’t leave the house ( I delivered my first baby without pain relief I’m no drama queen) but they never , ever helped me. It wasn’t until I broke my back many years later that I was given codeine and morphine that suddenly I was symptom free with my guts. When I managed to fix myself enough to start hoovering again and washing up I kept the codeine and morphine going because for the first time in my life my gastric/ bowel symptoms were relived. I’m now 15 years past spine Injury. I’m nearly 40, I’m reasonably active, functional , pain free but I’m an opioid addict. It smarts a bit saying that. But I’m okay now because I’ve got those drugs. I can’t remember the last time I sat crying in pain on the loo . For me, this has been an absolute blessing. People have judgments about opioids users, well since mine , I’ve done 2 degrees, renovated a house, published and sold a book and , most importantly lived a normal life .
All I’m saying , after trying loads of things and being not taken seriously , the one drug that worked for me was the one they were using in the Victorian times.

Obviously this bit isn't addressed to the OPs, but to the posters who gave her grief, when she was clearly very unwell indeed.

TankFlyBossW4lk · 05/01/2022 02:07

Can you go to the a and e in the hospital where your gastro team are?

marcopront · 05/01/2022 03:51

@TankFlyBossW4lk

Do you really think in 393 messages and over 24 hours no one had suggested that?

Your need to answer was obviously more important than reading the thread.
She went to the hospital a long time ago.

ColdShouldersWarmTummy · 05/01/2022 06:07

Really hope you're doing ok op Flowers

Genegenieee · 05/01/2022 07:27

Hope you are being well looked after in hospital OP Thanks

Branleuse · 05/01/2022 10:18

Really hope youre ok OP

YukoandHiro · 05/01/2022 10:20

Absolutely go back to a&e - explain that you're in lots of pain and can't handle it at home. Say you're worried about sepsis and abscess.

YukoandHiro · 05/01/2022 10:22

Oh wait you've been admitted - I'm so pleased you're getting the help you need.
How are you doing today OP?

MobyDicksTinyCanoe · 05/01/2022 11:15

Macro if you think people read hundreds of posts before commenting you're deluded. Hmm

Most read the first few at the top and maybe a few above the comment box..... Your opinions really arent important enough to be set in stone for the masses.
