M&S Clementine Gin liqueur - yuck!?

OK, I will admit, in an effort to try and embrace the festive spirit I got sucked into the marketing of the light up sparkly globe bottle and bought the clementine version....

With one thing and another I have only opened it this weekend... Have tried it with M&S prosecco as a cocktail as well as with regular tonic water.... And I can't remember the last time I have been more disappointed in something food/drink related. It is nasty, over sweet and overly artificial. To me, it tastes really really cheap and nasty.

Am I in the minority here? Is there another way to use this that actually makes it drinkable? I have a pretty much full bottle.

YABU - it's lovely
YANBU - horrible stuff

I tried Jameson Orange Whiskey. It is similarly vile. I tried adding ginger wine to it. It took the disgustingness to a new level.

ilovesooty · 02/01/2022 17:01

Your OP rather tempts me to buy some...

JammyRedRooo · 02/01/2022 17:02

Oh no I was given a bottle of this for Christmas and was looking forward to trying it!

Justkeeppedaling · 02/01/2022 17:03

I haven't tried this particular drink, but I don't like gin liqueurs in general even though I keep getting bought them because people know I like gin

FWIW my two favourite gins are Roku gin and Gunshot gin.

IPokeBadgers · 02/01/2022 17:04

Jameson Orange Whiskey?! Crikey 🥃😁

Although.... My husband did try a whiskey, marmalade and tea cocktail as seen on one of Kirsties Allsops Christmas shows and it worked not too badly, so maybe that's a way to use up the orange whiskey...?!

@justkeeppedaling

I have had a couple of other gin liqueurs before and thought they were OK. This one however, v disappointing!

I drank it neat. It was the best way! Just little shots at a time though, not a huge glassful.

Iliketeaagain · 02/01/2022 17:08

I liked it with Prosecco - tasted like a slightly sweeter aperol spritz to me (I wouldn't have bought it, but got it free with an Ocado voucher and I don't turn down free gin!), made it with the gin, Prosecco and some soda water.

And it is very festive and a pretty bottle.

functionoverform · 02/01/2022 17:09

😁 is this why Ocado is giving them away free?? Got one today after they emailed a voucher for one. Bugger... Thought it was too good to be true for a freebie🤣🤣

mafted · 02/01/2022 17:09

I was given the rhubarb one in 2020 which was really nice. This Christmas I received two bottles of the sugar plum one which is horrible

I did receive a lovely bottle of sipsmith gin though which is delicious.

honeyytoast · 02/01/2022 17:10

Nooo - I bought this for my boyfriend’s mum. She said she liked it, maybe she was being polite though Grin

Hellokittyninja · 02/01/2022 17:10

Ah that explains why I was gifted one by my super tight sister, they were giving them away for free! Lol. That will be going straight into the bin then.

IPokeBadgers · 02/01/2022 17:14

To be fair, i might be in the minority and maybe loads of other people do like it...?

I tried their last year’s version, which didn’t have a special bottle, and it was lovely!

AlbertBridge · 02/01/2022 17:16

I'd keep it to use like Triple Sec, in margaritas.

LaQuern · 02/01/2022 17:17

I like it with Prosecco. I'll have yours if it's going free 😁

Colourmylife1 · 02/01/2022 17:20

I agree OP. It’s far too sweet.

liveforsummer · 02/01/2022 17:22

I find gin liqueurs very disappointing as a rule and they charge nearly the same for them as for actual gin. Something you notice more when you line in a country within minimum alcohol pricing.

MintyGreenDream · 02/01/2022 17:22

If you want something a but different but lovely then Asda extra special Mojito gin is gorgeous

longtompot · 02/01/2022 17:29

I have the Aldi versions, the Clementine one and the blackberry one, and I love the Clementine one as a g&t and the blackberry one neat over ice. It tastes sort of like Parma violets.

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 02/01/2022 17:30

I had it last year and hated it. Usually a bottle of gin wouldn't last too long in our house but we still have this one. Ick!

SocialConnection · 02/01/2022 17:31

I got the Aldi knock-off and I really like it! Having with tonic & ice.

superram · 02/01/2022 17:32

All gin liquor is vile-only ever order normal gin.

Bluntness100 · 02/01/2022 17:33

I got this free from Ocado too, I like it in Prosecco but a little goes a long way, otherwise it’s too strong, both taste wise and alcohol content. 🤣
