M&S Clementine Gin liqueur - yuck!?

OK, I will admit, in an effort to try and embrace the festive spirit I got sucked into the marketing of the light up sparkly globe bottle and bought the clementine version....

With one thing and another I have only opened it this weekend... Have tried it with M&S prosecco as a cocktail as well as with regular tonic water.... And I can't remember the last time I have been more disappointed in something food/drink related. It is nasty, over sweet and overly artificial. To me, it tastes really really cheap and nasty.

Am I in the minority here? Is there another way to use this that actually makes it drinkable? I have a pretty much full bottle.

YABU - it's lovely
YANBU - horrible stuff

Excellent. I was given a bottle of this by my SIL. Haven't tried it yet but , as a liqueur, was sort if expecting it to be sweet. I've bought a bottle of fevertree ginger ale in the hope it might disguise that slightly. And I thought I might try it with prosecco.

Am not particularly a lover of overly sweet drinks so not holding out much hope!

My Dsis got the damson one. She's delighted. Wink

SallyOMalley · 03/01/2022 00:19

Not damson, plum. T'other m&s one, anyway.

Got given the gift set of this (with Prosecco) from Sis-in-law. I usually steer clear of gin liqueurs & hate Prosecco. I think it might have to be saved for a school tombola donation, it doesn’t sound pleasant Confused

We got the spice plum one. Again, totally sucked in by the bottle that looks shit now its half empty and has no floaty gold in it.

There is something in it that gives DH a headache. And I think it tastes like cat piss.

PurplePeculiar · 03/01/2022 00:23

I had one small glass of it and the rest has gone down the sink. It's vile.

Crinkle77 · 03/01/2022 00:30

I was similarly disappointed by Whiteleys Rhubarb and Ginger gin. Love those sharp flavours so was really looking forward to it with a fever tree tonic. However it was sweet and horrible, I was so pissed off.

Lucillesbigsister · 03/01/2022 00:40

My MIL bought it and said it was nice with lemonade. I just like a normal G&T so didn’t try it.

So disappointing when something like that isn’t nice. It is a gorgeous bottle though!

MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 03/01/2022 11:22

Gorgeous bottle. Tastes vile. That's it really.

RogerThatBravoOne · 03/01/2022 11:36

@FortniteBoysMum this is the one I got and it was a lot nicer than I expected… I wouldn’t have chosen the plum one normally.

foxgoosefinch · 31/01/2022 19:01

Just opened one of these from Christmas and wow it’s awful! It’s the plum one and I think it’s the cloves that make it taste so bad. Without the cloves it would probably be just overly sweet and vaguely inoffensive, but the clove flavouring makes it taste like loo cleaner. Or maybe cleaning fluid. Blurgh!

3scape · 31/01/2022 19:04

I have not opened mine yet. I was given one of these bottles. Maybe I will pass it on to someone who likes sweet drinks then.

foxgoosefinch · 31/01/2022 19:30

I’ve made it through half a glass with tonic, and I can’t do any more 😂 It’s like some kind of really nasty tasting cough syrup. What a shame! Any ideas of what I can do with the rest of the bottle?

HTH1 · 31/01/2022 21:15

@Justkeeppedaling

I haven't tried this particular drink, but I don't like gin liqueurs in general even though I keep getting bought them because people know I like gin

FWIW my two favourite gins are Roku gin and Gunshot gin.

Same, love gin but can’t stand gin liqueur.
RogerThatBravoOne · 01/02/2022 08:12

I must have terrible taste because I love them both 🤷🏼‍♀️ I can send everyone my address…? 😂😉
