SIL gone to panto when waiting for PCR result - oh yes she did!

anotherannoyngSIL · 30/12/2021 14:47

Name changed as I’ve been slated on here before for not allowing my SIL to do as she pleases.

Today I thought we’d made a positive turn as she has taken my older son and hers to the pantomime as I’ve got a broken leg (though she has made a big thing about helping out).

Unfortunately she’s just text me to say “BTW I’ve had a positive lateral and waiting on my PCR but decided to take the boys anyway as xxx (her son) was looking forward to it, I’m sure that’s fine”.

In which universe is that fine?? She’s risking not just my son, but the others she’s gone with and the whole audience!! She is very jealous if people do social things without her but surely there comes a time when sense is more important than FOMO?? I’m assuming she waited till she was there to tell me so I couldn’t do anything.

Husband says I’m being unreasonable for being annoyed as the rules aren’t clear cut and she hasn’t had the PCR test back.

AIBU for wanting to ban her as she’s so irresponsible and only really cares about herself?

@mrsbertharochester

Remind me whuch flu seasons did they build field hospitals in carparks and increase mortary space ? Or require people to isolate if infectious for flu?

@UndertheCedartree

My DC don't even have an underlying condition and this has not been a mild illness (i.e like a cold) - luckily for them it will be mild as in they won't need to be hospitalised. I have no underlying condition but was hospitalised last time and was ill for a year last time. I'm lucky in that I don't fear this will kill me but I am scared of having a long illness and not being able to look after my DC.

I personally feel our DC have gone without so much. They deserve to have a nice Christmas holiday. Unfortunately for my DC and some of their friends Christmas has been ruined but for us to spread that to lots of their other friends and other DC at the Panto and ruin their holiday too. I just don't think it's fair.

Its a MILD illness for the vast majority. If omicron is as infectious as suggested then its rife everywhere and people will be asymptomatic. Lockdowb lovers stay home and the rest of us can get back to living. Cant stand Boris but he made the right choice not to impose new year restrictions. Folk cant get tests because they are testing with no symptoms. Just stop it. Wear a mask, wash your hands and carry on. Its NOT the plague.
Cut the crap about lockdown lovers. It's not what this thread is about.
UndertheCedartree · 30/12/2021 22:06

Oh yes, of course the reason we are home with Covid is because we are Lockdown Lovers - certainly not because we are really unwell and would not want to pass this horrible illness to others. It's all lovely to talk about being asymptomatic until you're not.

Actors (and the rest of the theatrical world) know exactly the cost of Covid. We lived it for months and months when the theatres were shut because of Covid. And now our jobs are once again under threat because of Covid.

So no. Actors would not be fucking selfish enough or stupid enough to test positive and not tell anyone because they understand the wider consequence of doing that. Can you imagine the thought process? “Whoops! I’ve tested positive. But I don’t seem to have any symptoms. Right then, off I go to work to infect all my colleagues thereby ensuring future performances will be cancelled and potentially the entire run will have to end prematurely. Good call me! That’ll really help the old bank balance!”

The incredible bubble some people live in… “Just make choices for your family and I’ll do the same for mine…” The choices you make for your family will impact on mine and vice versa!

The short-sighted, pig-headed refusal to accept that our choices affect other people and that just because a situation is already bad, doesn’t mean we shouldn’t actively strive not to make it worse.

Agree. Thanks for putting it so much better than me. And actors work so closely together, there needs to be trust.
MrsBerthaRochester · 30/12/2021 22:17

Remind me why they shut all the Nightinggale hospitals? I am not dismissive of others fears. If you feel covid is a big risk to yourself or your family then you live accordingly. I have assessed my own risk and I shall live MY life accordingly.
Im very sorry some folk have been very ill with covid or suffering long term effects. But its simple FACT that for most of us it IS akin to a cold.

Covidworries · 30/12/2021 22:24

Last time it was mild for you doesnt mean that the next time you get it you will have a very mild case. Or that you wont disciver that covid has done damage to other organs of your body that you arent aware of yet.
They shut the nightingales when cases dropped and they werent needed but now they are opening new nightingales so obv they have concerns akin to last month.

It is pretty obvious that staffing these hospitals back in2020 and now will be near impossible. What do you think they will be used for should the shit hit the fan ?

BrotherHelp · 30/12/2021 22:29

@MrsBerthaRochester do you know how many NHS staff are off with long covid? The NHS staffing crisis might never recover, and your cancer op or your mums hip op will take years. You’re fine with a mild cold apparently, but all those people who you spread it to means long covid, which is no fucking joke, it’s a clotting disease damaging organs. Healthy people who did iron men are now housebound. This is where the NHS is struggling now. But you do you. This is why there was a lock down, no one wants a lock down they are horrendous, but so is watching people die because there weren’t enough ventilators or beds or at one point fucking oxygen in the hospital for those that needed it.

It until you see someone die who you weren’t expecting, or you don’t get the care because there are no staff, nothing or no one is going to change your mind so why do we bother.

MrsBerthaRochester · 30/12/2021 22:29

Please show me the information that they are reopening the Nightinggales please.
The statistics are readily available re average age of death WITH covid.

PinkTonic · 30/12/2021 22:32

I've always felt that the onus should be on those not wanting to catch it to stay home, rather than others having to curtail their freedom in case someone catches it

That’s disgusting. You are disgusting.

Notonthestairs · 30/12/2021 22:33

@MrsBerthaRochester would you go to the panto after a positive LFT and whilst waiting for a PCR result?

MrsBerthaRochester · 30/12/2021 22:33

Healthy men who did iron men? Ancedotes are not evidence. The statistics on who is dying with covid are readily available and its NOT young healthy people and no amount of fear mongering can make it so.

MrsBerthaRochester · 30/12/2021 22:35

I wouldnt go to any event if I was ill.

Yes for most it not a serious illness. But I know a lot of previously healthy people who have been hospitalised, suffer long covid or died due to it. You do you, but don’t spread a nasty disease and kill someone’s mum or child because you feel a bit antsy about not being able to do exactly what you want all the time.
Notonthestairs · 30/12/2021 22:36

Lovely but not answering the question. LFT's are broadly used for testing W/o symptoms.
Covidworries · 30/12/2021 22:37

@mrsbertharochester
That doesnt answer the question
Would you have gone to a panto knowing you had just tested postive to covid?

MrsBerthaRochester · 30/12/2021 22:38

We are all spreaders because most people are asymptomatic and nobody I know is testing every day! Real world people!

Notonthestairs · 30/12/2021 22:39

@MrsBerthaRochester

But you'd test before a large event no? (So not every day) And if that were positive?
Covidworries · 30/12/2021 22:40

@mrsbertharochester you do realise the data for deaths are within 28days
But shock horror some people in particular the healier ones before covid tend to be stronger and may die after 28 days. They are still dead even if you dont think they are. Then you have those who developed other issues as a direct result of covid which killed them at a later date still dead

MrsBerthaRochester · 30/12/2021 22:41

If it was something my kids had been looking forward to it? Possibly. I would assess the fact that most people will have already had it, have it and dont know so just as likely to spread it as I am and that anyone highly vulnerable would be avoiding large gatherings like the plague. No pun intended.

PaddingtonStareBare · 30/12/2021 22:41

It's so many selfish replies on this thread that are confirming my decision home education.

My DD caught COVID from school, apparently many kids weren't wearing masks as 'couldn't be bothered' - it was a gamble sending her.
However I'm having chemo and my husband is CEV, we can't take the risk of her catching it again and then either of us catching it as funnily enough we both would like to be around in her life.

We're still sticking to home as much as we can but not meeting anyone indoors and won't be having a meal out anywhere inside for probably a few years, but I'm having to withdraw my daughter from school due to the risk. Fortunately home education will work for us.

MrsBerthaRochester · 30/12/2021 22:45

I am talking about the statistics that are available to us now. Anyway I think when folk have to resort to personal attacks via pm the time has come to end my contribution to this thread.
I repeat wishing all a happy and healthy new year.

That’s not assessing your own risk and making choices for your own family. That is assessing everyone else’s risk and you have neither the right nor the information to do that.
