To hate the matching PJs trend

Alysskea · 28/12/2021 10:46

Every post on my social media and messages from friends has featured an entire family, usually of primarily grown adults, wearing matching Christmas pyjamas.

Where did this come from???? Why is it suddenly a thing??? Why do we all have to see the pictures?

OP posts:

Didn't know it was a thing. Just googled it and laughing a lot particularly at the marketing. But if people like it?....

emsmar · 28/12/2021 11:12

It's a load of twee pish!

NerrSnerr · 28/12/2021 11:13

What is the problem with things being from America? Why the America hate?

RogueV · 28/12/2021 11:13

YANBU

Makes me cringe

TheGoogleMum · 28/12/2021 11:14

It's not for everyone but I think its cute!

Besswess88 · 28/12/2021 11:14

If people are stupid enough to fork out for it more fool them.

If SM didn’t exist people wouldn’t do half the stupid crap they do and would save a lot of money.

DDs daughter did it with her mother and boyfriend, he looked absolutely thrilled.

InFiveMins · 28/12/2021 11:15

YANBU, it's a dreadful trend.

homealoneagain1 · 28/12/2021 11:16

I don't really care. I wouldn't do it - but his on earth do people afford this on top of all the other Christmas expense?

converseandjeans · 28/12/2021 11:17

YANBU however nobody on my FB or Insta has been posting these photos. It might be an age thing? Possibly people in 30s rather than 40s?

snapsieplopp · 28/12/2021 11:19

It's just the updated version of the below, fodder for the future! 😁

@DrawABath

I do have matching pjs, only me and my daughter though, and I bought them because she was 3 and I knew it would make her incredibly happy to match with me, which it did. I don't post photos on social media though, that does go through me a bit. I wouldn't want a big family all matching, be a right pain to work out what belongs to who after the wash.
Same. My kids wanted matching pj’s so I got a few sets out of primark for £7 each. They’ll get worn all year. And yes I did put a pic on Fb because it’s my profile and I’ll post what I like on there. I didn’t consider the ballache of sorting the washing out afterwards though 😬
MolkosTeenageAngst · 28/12/2021 11:24

I think it’s cute, I don’t have anyone to match pyjamas with but if I did I would definitely be joining in with the trend.

Bollocks2Covid · 28/12/2021 11:26

It makes me cringe like hell as well. I saw one post on Facebook of an old school friend her husband, children, stepchildren and sixty something parents all dressed in matching PJs and slippers. Apart from the kids they all looked fucking ridiculous.

Just my opinion obviously and people can do what they like, but if you are going to plaster it all over SM remember others will judge and pass comment😉

Whatwouldscullydo · 28/12/2021 11:27

There was a Time that discovering you dressed like your mother/father was the ultimate embarrassment Grin

I hate it too. Mainly because it's such a waste. They won't fit the next year amd good luck getting your kid to wear Xmas pyjamas after Xmas. They will be binned having barely been worn.

Plus for all the appearances if going all out fir xmas/birthdays etc how there's time for anything when they are clearly so busy taking photos rather than spending the time with the kids I dont know.

Each to their own though. Up to them. People can post whatever they want I don't get to police it.

NerrSnerr · 28/12/2021 11:29

@Whatwouldscullydo maybe that's just your children? My children wear Christmas pyjamas all year round. My children also wear them for more than one year- I realised last night that this is the third winter my son has worn the pyjamas he had on.

MisgenderedSwan · 28/12/2021 11:29

My dc get new pjs on Christmas Eve - usually Christmas themed. They love to match us, it's the only time all year and it's a lovely Christmas tradition that doesn't hurt anyone. We also all wear the pjs for the rest of the year so why does it matter? I find it very difficult to get riled up about other people posting their happy photos on social media.

NerrSnerr · 28/12/2021 11:30

Also who bins old children's clothes? Ours all get passed on or to the charity shop (the ones my son was wearing for the third year went through at least two of my friend's children before they came to us)

Whatwouldscullydo · 28/12/2021 11:31

Dd2 is where clothes come to die Hmm

snapsieplopp · 28/12/2021 11:32

How do you pjs last 3 years? My dc grow every 6 months it feels like, although DH & I are tall.

Onlinedilema · 28/12/2021 11:33

Snapsieplopp 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

galacticpixels · 28/12/2021 11:34

I think matching PJs themselves are cute to be honest but I can't ever imagine wanting to upload a picture of myself in my PJs to social media. Obviously people can post whatever they like but it does make me cringe a bit.

WhatScratch · 28/12/2021 11:35

With all the bile, racism, misogyny and dangerous anti vaxx misinformation on social media I just can’t get worked up about matching pjs.

NerrSnerr · 28/12/2021 11:35

I have small children. School shoes last most of an academic year too. We are lucky but shows that buying stuff isn't always a waste (although I rarely buy stuff as lucky with hand me downs).
WhatScratch · 28/12/2021 11:38

I bought festive pjs in the sale. Penguins aren’t just for Christmas …

clarepetal · 28/12/2021 11:40

Same. And Christmas Eve boxes, and Elf on the Fucking Shelf. Haven't we got enough to do over Christmas without all this bloody social media fucking bragging. Fuck off.
