Is there a picture I can't see or something?

MyOtherProfile · 27/12/2021 10:51

Hard to tell really 😆

Theunamedcat · 27/12/2021 10:52

Using my mumsnet psychic powers I can confirm your right and you should complain

SoniaFouler · 27/12/2021 10:54

Sorry posted too early.

Im not sure this is right because it happened on a mobile phone, not a television programme.

My DN was playing an app on a phone upstairs yesterday and came back and looked very scared and frightened and pale. We eventually coaxed out of him that he was in the middle of playing and a game and an advert came on and scared the absolute life out of him (he is very sensitive). I put the game on and clicked through it myself and eventually then saw (and heard) it myself. It was a very LOUD advert for Amazon. I don’t think it could be classed as appropriate for children, it was IMO creepy for a child to witness especially a sensitive child that was caught off guard - I can’t imagine it would be allowed on TV during a childrens prpgramme for example without repercussions, it involved someone’s skin being ripped off their face. Would Ofcom take this on board or wash their hands of it because it wasn’t broadcast on TV?

Definitely.

Doesntfeellikexmas · 27/12/2021 10:55

What were amazing advertising that involved someone face being ripped off?

Doesntfeellikexmas · 27/12/2021 10:55

Amazon not amazing 😒

TrashyPanda · 27/12/2021 10:57

Here’s Ofcoms remit

Ofcom may be able to help you complain about or report issues relating to phone, broadband and postal services, TV, radio and on-demand programmes, interference to wireless devices, or something you have seen on a video-sharing platform

SoniaFouler · 27/12/2021 10:57

It wasn’t an advert for a particular product they were selling, it was an advert for Amazon itself

An amazon advert involved someone’s face being ripped off? That sounds strange.

PinkWaferBiscuit · 27/12/2021 10:58

It doesn't sound like it was an amazon advert, why would their adverts involve someone having their skin ripped off?

MrsMorningStarOfBethleh · 27/12/2021 10:58

That doesn't sound like an actual amazon advert (unless advertising something on amazon prime video?).

I definitely needs reporting though.

Does that include apps? I’m not even sure if it was Amazon UK or USA, it was just Amazon in general

Sure it wasn't an advert for a show on Amazon Prime? Games that have pop-up adverts aren't really suitable for children to play as there can be anything on there. I've seen ones pop up for anime/manga porn that are quite explicit.

It was not appropriate IMO on an app for kids

I've done a quick Google - there isn't something out there like you describe? Can you post a link?

Starcaller · 27/12/2021 11:01

But legitimate apps for children don't tend to have pop-up adverts in them. Don't download free games from the AppStore unless it's from somewhere like CBeebies or another legitimate producer.

Redcrayons · 27/12/2021 11:01

Sorry, my previous response was a bit glib before you posted.

What was the age rating for the game he was playing? I know that you aren’t allowed to advertise things like gambling and alcohol to apps aimed at under 18s. I don’t know if it covers ‘scary’ ads. What product was amazon advertising?

SoniaFouler · 27/12/2021 11:02

No it wasn’t for a show, it was for Amazon the website. His reaction made me think he’d seen an advert for a horror film or something. He didn’t tell me it was Amazon, I went on the app and saw it myself and saw it was for Amazon myself (not a show on Amazon prime) and then showed him a bit and said “was this it?” and he said yes.

I appreciate you say you don't think it was appropriate but that doesn't relate to what I said. Unless this was advertising a show then it really doesn't sound like it was a genuine amazon advert.

If it was advertising a show then I don't think I'd be complaining as ads that pop up on an app could be for anything, I personally wouldn't be allowing a child to play a game which could show any ad as a pop up.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 27/12/2021 11:03

What was the advert for ? Confused

This sounds like a very weird thing to use to try and sell amazon.
ItsSnowJokes · 27/12/2021 11:04

What was the game it was on?

Motnight · 27/12/2021 11:05

What was the app?
