I've just watched it, where's the scarey face ripping bit??
You need to loosen your stays and let go of your pearls OP.
Scarey, my arse! 🤨

SoniaFouler · 27/12/2021 11:47

I didn’t say I found it scary, I said for him I thought it was a bit scary

OP posts:
Squills · 27/12/2021 11:49

it involved someone’s skin being ripped off their face

It didn't though did it?

You're making a fuss about nothing.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 27/12/2021 11:50

Where were his parents? Presumably they have set the device up to block inappropriate content? This should filter older adverts and also prevent older games being downloaded.

I'd be more concerned that he is using the device upstairs unsupervised - mine were only allowed to use theirs in the living room so we could cast an eye every now and again.

codexa · 27/12/2021 11:51

Why look for validation from a bunch of anonymous strangers about this? Just lodge a complaint somewhere to get it off your chest.

Honestly, it is easy to do all by yourself.

Theremoresefulday · 27/12/2021 11:52

Where was the skin ripping off!?

Why do your DN parents allow him on games where the terms and conditions are 13+ unsupervised?

Quirrelsotherface · 27/12/2021 11:52

The way you described was like a horror movie. Nothing wrong with it. What is wrong is letting a 6 year old play games unsupervised on a mobile phone! They could have seen a lot worse than that.

Memyselfandfood · 27/12/2021 11:52

It’s this video! I thought it was an actual gory video.
Fair enough your child found it scary, then you need to monitor him online, as he’s only 6. Other kids at that age and under wouldn’t. My family find it funny.
There are t&c for a reason.

Juletide · 27/12/2021 11:54

It didn't scare me and I'm a big wuss. Much worse stuff on kid's TV.

Prinnny · 27/12/2021 11:54

OP you’re being ridiculous. The advert is nothing like you describe. If DN is so easily shook up he needs to be better supervised when using tech.

Dillidalli · 27/12/2021 11:54

That advert is not scary at all. I think you need to have a chat with your 6yo and stop reaffirming his fears. It was music blowing the plasticine off a skeleton model, hardly what you described.

PinkWaferBiscuit · 27/12/2021 11:55

@SoniaFouler

I didn’t say I found it scary, I said for him I thought it was a bit scary
Do you have your own children? I'm curious because honestly lots of children's TV shows and films are way more scary than this advert.
Faevern · 27/12/2021 11:55

See I think what often happens is the parents just give the child the phone with a cursory glance and off they go. A 6 year old should be supervised, it wouldn't stop the advert but the parent would be alerted as soon as the volume went up which is time to enough to take the phone away.

Many parents don't read the information properly, so my first question would be did the parents read the information, check the content, put parental controls in place, play at least a few games with the child to see what they are accessing and if not why was he not supervised?

NatashaBedwouldbenice · 27/12/2021 11:56

God, the first few pages of this were hard work.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 27/12/2021 11:57

Well, having watched the video linked to after having read the OP, it was not quite what I was expecting Grin

Honestly, after all the DRAMA and the need to COMPLAIN I was expecting something at least a teensy bit scary…

Whitefire · 27/12/2021 11:57

If your child is freaked out by this then it shows that you need to supervise him very closely. That was no worse than what is on the likes of Tom and Jerry.

WonderfulYou · 27/12/2021 11:57

From watching the advert then no I don’t think you should complain.

Most kids won’t find that scary.

Of course there are exceptions like your son but I know children (and adults) who are afraid of aliens, birds, the Cookie Monster, snakes, long nails etc - if everyone complained about something trivial that they are afraid of then everything would be cancelled.

MyOtherProfile · 27/12/2021 11:58

Sounds like most of us agree it really isn't that scary. However the OPs 6 yr old DN was scared and that is an issue. I think that means they need more limits really. I wouldn't leave a 6 year old with free access to a phone.

ShowOfHands · 27/12/2021 12:00

@SoniaFouler did you read the terms and conditions? Downloading the app is a tacit agreement to abide by their rules and acknowledge their warnings. The game itself may be operable by a 4+ yr old but the content of the ads is specifically described as having a different age rating. When making decisions for a 6yr old which involve electronic media, you have to take responsibility for what you're allowing them to access. That means reading the detail.

There is no complaint to be upheld.

WonderfulYou · 27/12/2021 12:00

Also OP from primary school, children will be taught about the skeleton and bones. So I doubt it’s the skeleton that scared him.

Could it be that the sound was too loud? Does he wear headphones?
It might be that he has sensitive hearing and maybe should wear headphones if it’s going to go loud all of a sudden.

MorganKitten · 27/12/2021 12:01

The advert content in the app is 13+ it’s in the T&Cs, which you agreed to.
No face was ripped off.

AnotherSoddingWalk · 27/12/2021 12:03

I'm in the minority but I can see why a child might find that scary, it's a bit of a bizarre advert. Weird things scare kids - I was terrified by The Flumps as a kid Grin.

I wouldn't think it's worth complaining about OP but I also don't think your nephew is odd for finding it scary.

Starcaller · 27/12/2021 12:04

It just boils down to the fact 6yo children shouldn't have unfettered and unsupervised access to apps that use adverts. There are so many good apps out there that are designed for children, some do cost money, but they are safe and advert-free. Something like an Amazon kids tablet will be more suitable. The apps on that are curated and don't have adverts.

icedcoffees · 27/12/2021 12:04

@SoniaFouler

Did nobody see the screenshot *@PolkadotsAndMoonbeams* posted?

If an app says suitable from 4 that’s to be expected, not suitable from 4 but really, 13 Confused

The app itself is suitable for 4yo - as in, the game is okay for a 4yo to play, but that doesn't mean the adverts will be suitable for a 4yo.

If you don't want your child to see ads, you'll need to pay for the premium version. All free apps will have adverts in them - it's how the developers make their money.

WorraLiberty · 27/12/2021 12:06

Blimey, that advert really wasn't what I was expecting.

No, of course you shouldn't complain as I'm pretty sure your DN will be in a minuscule minority.
