Sick of my family panicking.

Covid It's all My family talk about. Think about. I have a cold and I'm happy to stay away from everyone. My sisters saying I should get a test so I can go see my parents. My parents are fully jabbed and getting some flow tests today just because. I have no fever. No dry cough. I have a runny nose and a tickly throat. I have 3 family members texting me today. Sister thinks I should get a test as she presumes I wanna see my parents over Christmas. Adult niece has been testing all week and says maybe I should test but would I like to go walk with her and her dog aswel. Mum's saying I need to stay home and keep away and get a test yet asking me what I was doing and she heard I was in bed early. Now my niece is asking me if I have any tests here.

I am so sick of people panicking when I'm not even going near them. I have a mild runny nose and a tickle in my throat when I lie down..why can't I just keep away from them if they don't want to take risks?

@Confiscatedpopit

All this panic and guilt-tripping on here about something which now you admit ‘gives you a mild cold’ and ‘no symptoms’. Oh and something we were all celebrating ending in January due to the vaccines.

Absolutely pathetic- we need to move on with life and get a grip. And before anyone starts about this being quoted regularly let me just say… ‘protect the NHS’ ‘if you can’t breathe in a mask you wouldn’t like a ventilator’, ‘get boosted now’… yes it works both ways.

Some people are just loving this in my opinion and others are seriously brainwashed. Terrified of living life because of a cold. Flu has the same effect every year, no one behaves like this.

But you are omitting (or somehow unaware of) some fundamental facts. It’s not a mild cold for everyone. A small percentage of people will become very seriously ill and some will die. The Omicron variant is extremely transmissible, so whilst it’s only a small percentage of people who will be hospitalised/die, a small percentage of a very large number is still a lot of people. Enough to potentially overwhelm the NHS. Enough to affect essential services like food supply, utilities, fuel, bin service, transport etc. The seasonal flu does not threaten to overwhelm the NHS and essential services every year and it’s complete misinformation to say that Covid is the same as flu. We’ve known that since the beginning and there’s no excuse for trotting out that lie almost 2 years in.

It’s the same kinds of omissions made by the “why do you care if I’m unvaccinated” gang. I care because if the hospitals are full of unvaccinated-by-choice people, it limits the ability of the NHS to provide critical care to the rest of us should we have a non-Covid medical emergency. It also affects other NHS services that we all rely on.

People are not “loving this”. Most people are sensible, reading data, following expert advice, taking time to understand the far reaching consequences of the pandemic as the landscape changes and they are taking very basic precautions (like wearing masks and taking tests) to mitigate the risks to themselves and others. That’s not being pathetic or living in fear or being brainwashed or whatever other melodramatic thing you want to label it as. It’s just getting on with things and doing what needs to be done for the time being. Wearing a mask and testing is simple and easy.

Oh dear @Confiscatedpopit just read your latest comment too 🤭 Someone is certainly "brainwashed" and "stupid" but you may want to look closer to home...

So is the flu. Do we stop life for that? Cars prove fatal for a few people every day, we don’t clear all the roads and ban cars. What is stupid are the brainwashed like yourself and the overreaction from a few scientists who are clearly enjoying the power given a bit too much.

It’s akin to burning down the house after finding a wasps’ nest.

So we can agree that for the majority of people it is like a cold I'd recommend reading up on the ways in which it is not like a cold. If the similarities were the relevant factor, then Boris wouldn't be as sweaty-looking as he is.
Many many posters on here saying it presents like a cold It either is or it isn’t It’s either bad enough that the majority will have to go sick because they feel so ill or it isn’t. So if we have it that most people in the UK are vaccinated but this virus is still so serious that most people will have to phone in sick because they genuinely feel too ill to go to work then that is a failure.

They are loving it. And it’s always the type with little financial responsibilities/ very safe employment/ the income to afford daily Amazon Prime deliveries (whilst keeping themselves SAFE naturally- fuck the delivery drivers) who seem to tell everyone else they are selfish for not really giving two shits about it. The same utterly condescending and arrogant types of people who are ruining the hopes and futures of young people in the process. The same people shouting at people last year for buying ‘non-essential’ goods in B&M last year or screaming at mums allowing their children to access the local park.

If the NHS is this shit it can’t cope (and yes, in my opinion and own experiences it is well and truly shit generally with a few genuine very hard working types scattered around) then it needs investigating why. It’s not all the Tories before everyone starts- it’s been woefully mismanaged and disorganized for years. The money invested in furlough for healthy people all last year would have propped it up far more on a temporary basis to cope with this.

Anyone genuinely very clinically vulnerable needs financially supporting as much as possible. But let’s be real, we are speaking about a very small minority. And everyone else needs to get a grip and crack on. It’s utterly pathetic.

It isn't a cold.
"Covid presents like a cold" means "Covid has some of the same symptoms as a cold".
It doesn't mean "Covid is a cold."
Covid can also have other symptoms, which are deadly.
A brain tumour sometimes presents like a common headache.
That does not mean that a brain tumour is a common headache.

It’s either bad enough that the majority will have to go sick because they feel so ill or it isn’t
Most people with Covid don't have to stay at home because they feel too ill to work.
They have to stay at home to stop other people catching Covid.
When lots of people catch a cold, very few have to go to hospital.
When lots of people catch Covid, more have to go to hospital.
If a lot of people go to hospital at the same time, the hospital can't cope.
Did you see the pictures from Italy or India last year, with Covid patients dying in corridors or sitting outside with their own oxygen canisters?
That's what we want to avoid by keeping some people at home so that others don't catch Covid.
That's not necessary when people catch a cold.
Covid has some of the same symptoms as a cold.
But Covid is not a cold.
