Sick of my family panicking.

Covid It's all My family talk about. Think about. I have a cold and I'm happy to stay away from everyone. My sisters saying I should get a test so I can go see my parents. My parents are fully jabbed and getting some flow tests today just because. I have no fever. No dry cough. I have a runny nose and a tickly throat. I have 3 family members texting me today. Sister thinks I should get a test as she presumes I wanna see my parents over Christmas. Adult niece has been testing all week and says maybe I should test but would I like to go walk with her and her dog aswel. Mum's saying I need to stay home and keep away and get a test yet asking me what I was doing and she heard I was in bed early. Now my niece is asking me if I have any tests here.

I am so sick of people panicking when I'm not even going near them. I have a mild runny nose and a tickle in my throat when I lie down..why can't I just keep away from them if they don't want to take risks?

@MissMaple82

My family are the same! I dont want the vaccine either and they treat me differently as a result. People need to just get on with it and respect other people wishes. This nonsense is really pissing me if now.
How do they treat you differently @MissMaple82 ?
Porcupineintherough · 27/12/2021 13:17

@PinkSparklyPussyCat I tested lunch time yesterday and had the result back first thing this morning so whilst 5 days may sometimes happen it's far from a foregone conclusion.

Justgettingbye · 27/12/2021 13:17

@MissMaple82

Tests are an absolute Ballache, are you all really going to test every time you have a sniffle?? It's ridiculous
They are a ball ache agree! But I see you're not vaccinated either so you're doing nothing to help combat the spread well done
PinkSparklyPussyCat · 27/12/2021 13:17

@ravenmum

The test takes less than five minutes and involves poking a stick up your nose. I can cope with doing that a few times a week, yes.
It bloody hurts so no, I won't be doing it if it's not necessary! I'll do it if I'm seeing people but that's it.

Well yes they treat you differently because you've made a choice that could impact them and others. And to refuse the vaccine and not being happy to test a well? Sorry but I will never understand people like you Confused
MimiDaisy11 · 27/12/2021 13:18

Also I don't get why people encourage you to get jabbed, while the same people presume the jab doesn't work

It depends what you mean by work. You can still pass on covid. Even when the vaccines were out no one was saying you couldn’t pass it on. The vaccines reduce likelihood of severe covid which is a big deal.

Changemaname1 · 27/12/2021 13:19

I can assure you I’m not a panicker but that’s how I started and I tested positive Xmas Eve 🤷🏻‍♀️

LadyRoughDiamond · 27/12/2021 13:19

OP, I tested positive last Friday - it presented as a mild cold with runny nose, no cough, no fever. Your family are right - you need to get a test. The reason they’re going on about it is because they’re probably baffled as to why you’re not doing what you’re supposed to do in this situation. As am I.

Chely · 27/12/2021 13:20

We stocked up on tests, they will start charging for them at some point.

Eventually people will accept this virus like the many others floating about and just get on with it.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 27/12/2021 13:20

Why did you tell them @MissMaple82?

And before anyone starts, I'm fully vaccinated at the moment, just curious about why vaccine status is being shared.

hohohohoh · 27/12/2021 13:24

Oh fgs enough of this now. I am 'getting on with my life' (going to work, kids at school, meeting friends, going to the cinema, just booked a holiday). I'm also taking 5 minutes out of my week to lateral flow test every couple of days, to make sure I don't inadvertently stop other people getting on with their lives. If everyone else had been kind enough to do the same, then maybe I wouldn't have just had to cancel all my Christmas plans, as my son might not have caught Covid. Just listen to your family and at least take a lateral flow.

ravenmum · 27/12/2021 13:25

@PinkSparklyPussyCat Sounds like you're doing tests as often as me, then. Sorry to hear it hurts! Have you tried different brands or is it narrow nostrils? (So glad I had mine widened pre-Covid!!)

Pollymollydolly · 27/12/2021 13:28

Op if you plan to isolate for 10 days then of course it is ok to not get a pcr test.

If you don’t plan to isolate then you need to get a pcr test. If it is covid the fact that your symptoms may be mild means nothing - you could pass it on to others who may be more seriously affected.

I cannot get my head around the fact that, at this point in the pandemic, people do not realise that you can have covid without a cough or a fever. I tested positive in September and experienced cold symptoms only - at no point did I have a fever and I only had mild coughing fits rather than a persistent cough.

Doubledoorsontogarden · 27/12/2021 13:29

You clearly don’t like your family enough to do a test, so stay away. If you want to go out and about or visit your relatives, that presumably love you do a test.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 27/12/2021 13:31

@ravenmum sorry if I sounded snippy in my post, it wasn't meant to! I've done a test for the last 6 days as I was in the office with someone who tested positive the next day. Thankfully no more until Friday or Saturday!

I think it could be narrow nostrils as I have a permanently blocked nose -I was hit in the face with a 5kg medicine ball a couple of years ago and I think it might have done some permanent damage.

All this panic and guilt-tripping on here about something which now you admit ‘gives you a mild cold’ and ‘no symptoms’. Oh and something we were all celebrating ending in January due to the vaccines.

Absolutely pathetic- we need to move on with life and get a grip. And before anyone starts about this being quoted regularly let me just say… ‘protect the NHS’ ‘if you can’t breathe in a mask you wouldn’t like a ventilator’, ‘get boosted now’… yes it works both ways.

Some people are just loving this in my opinion and others are seriously brainwashed. Terrified of living life because of a cold. Flu has the same effect every year, no one behaves like this.

Yes, I had a permanently blocked nose, exactly. Not sure if "nostrils" is the right word for what they widened Grin but I had a rhinoplasty and it made a big difference. Might be worth getting an air flow test so see how bad the trouble is. Could be useful for the next pandemic!

Wizzbangfizz · 27/12/2021 13:35

Couldn't agree more @Confiscatedpopit - this collective madness is breathtaking.

I can't help but think about all the family arguments over covid - is this testing going to be taking place before every bloody family gathering for ever more?!

ravenmum · 27/12/2021 13:39

@Wizzbangfizz A couple of people have mentioned how Omicron seems to be a bit milder. If Covid keeps on mutating in that direction then with any luck this mild inconvenience will soon no longer be required. We're just not quite there yet. But no need to panic :)

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 27/12/2021 13:39

Thanks for that @ravenmum, I'll look into that. I sound as though I've got a permanent cold which isn't great at the moment!

Marmelace · 27/12/2021 13:41

If you are not going to be in contact with them or anyone else, just tell a porky and say you are negative. It sounds to me it's you that's making a big fuss about it all!

MrsLargeEmbodied · 27/12/2021 14:02

my lateral flows take more than 5 minutes out of my day!

How is a LFT a ballache? It's so quick and easy.

This. This is how we get on with our lives. The testing is trivial, takes moments, and helps stop covid spreading.

Even if omicron is milder (I was in bed for 8 days, didn't feel too mild) if it spreads and people can't get to work then we can't run normal services. So we need to stop the soread. Damn inconvenient but that's what living with it means.
