Sick of my family panicking.

Strawbz8988 · 27/12/2021 10:42

Covid It's all My family talk about. Think about. I have a cold and I'm happy to stay away from everyone. My sisters saying I should get a test so I can go see my parents. My parents are fully jabbed and getting some flow tests today just because. I have no fever. No dry cough. I have a runny nose and a tickly throat. I have 3 family members texting me today. Sister thinks I should get a test as she presumes I wanna see my parents over Christmas. Adult niece has been testing all week and says maybe I should test but would I like to go walk with her and her dog aswel. Mum's saying I need to stay home and keep away and get a test yet asking me what I was doing and she heard I was in bed early. Now my niece is asking me if I have any tests here.

I am so sick of people panicking when I'm not even going near them. I have a mild runny nose and a tickle in my throat when I lie down..why can't I just keep away from them if they don't want to take risks?

YANBU. This covid thing is just ridiculous now and people just need to get on with their lives and treat it like the cold it is.

AgentJohnson · 27/12/2021 12:07

I will stay away from people I'm not going into any shops etc. I was under the impression the test was for fevers. Coughs. Loss of taste and smell.

The most widespread symptoms of the Omicron variant now match those of common colds, with calls for the government to update its public health messaging to include a wider number of likely Covid symptoms.

Just do a lateral flow test or pcr.
The symptoms don't match what the actual symptoms are.

Cornettoninja · 27/12/2021 12:10

@PinkSparklyPussyCat

That's what I'm doing *@Cornettoninja*, the problem being some days are worse than others.

I've had a PCR when symptoms have been bad but I struggle with LFTs as for some reason they make my nose very sore. I've just done 6 days in a row as I was a close contact last Monday and my nostrils are so sore. I'll do them if I'm meeting someone but not just as a regular thing.

Which is fair enough and following the current guidance isn’t it? So there’s no problem is there?

If I never read hear the phrase ‘get on with our lives’ again I’ll be a happy woman, it’s retorted like a malfunctioning furby.

And for what it's worth we all had Covid earlier in the year (presumably Delta). Apart from me feeling achy for half a day, loss of taste for me on day 3 of isolation and a cough that started on day 4-5 for DS and I (and didn't even keep us awake like most cold type coughs), we were asymptomatic on the first 2-3 days. DH didn''t get a symptom at all. No loss of taste/smell for him, no cough and no fever. If he hadn't seen the LFT he'd have not believed it and certainly wouldn't have been staying in as he did.

Omicron has cold symptoms - get a test

Except with a cold I can still generally function whilst unwell and once better can go about as normal. I’m a fit and healthy 30 year old and Covid wiped me out, I was in bed for days and even now I’m out of isolation etc. I’m exhausted, no energy, the most irritating cough and still can’t do things to the same level I could before e.g. exercising. So it’s not just like a cold, at least not for me.

Whilst it might be for some people, it’s debilitating for others and if it’s taken out a fit and healthy 30 year old, I dread to think what it’s like for an elderly or physically vulnerable person who gets symptoms. If that can be prevented, then a bit selfish not to.

WildMaryBerriesWithBrandyCream · 27/12/2021 12:14

OP the symptons you are looking for indicate the delta varient of covid. Most of us are vaccinated against this and there is less of it about.

For some people the new omicron varient presents as cold like symptoms (so probably no loss of taste or cough ) ... it might be mild for some but for others it can lead to hospitalisation.

If you take a test when you only have mild symptoms yourself it is because you are protecting others who might catch this version of covid from you and be very ill.

NeedAHoliday2021 · 27/12/2021 12:16

All our family positives have come from lfts confirmed by pcrs - none of them got the main symptoms except 2 had high temps that came on 2 days later. Just take a test. There’s very few colds circulating so it’s highly likely you have omicron.

These threads show me how many people don’t watch the news (which I do understand as it’s bloody depressing) but you can’t them criticise other better informed family members for being concerned when your symptoms totally match the most recent info. I do with they would update the government website though.

Ok I should not have been rude but My post was honestly how I feel
Some selfish ignorant person gave this to me , someone who should have tested and stayed at home
My daughter is EMV and I am beyond furious and devastated that she is in this position due to some persons ignorance and or laziness , She could die and I am angry with that person
For God’s sake test and stay at home

WonderfulYou · 27/12/2021 12:19

I agree!

Sick of these anti-testers, ‘we need to get on with our lives’ lot.

If you don’t understand how a virus works then stay quiet, instead of embarrassing yourself acting like if we ignore it it will get fed up and leave.

Staryflight445 · 27/12/2021 12:19

‘ but if its mainly a mild cold then what is all the panic about if I keep away and feel OK? It's not going anywhere and I'm finding that people have forgotten how to live now and their lived revolve around this’

Well for starters op it could progress and you could need medical attention.
Just get a test and see if it’s COVID? What’s the issue?
You sound like the one letting it rule your life. Ignorance isn’t bliss.

Staryflight445 · 27/12/2021 12:20

They’re all too daft enough to realise their attitudes actually prevent us from ‘getting on with life’ 🙄 @WonderfulYou

EmmaWoodhousestreehouse · 27/12/2021 12:20

A tickly throat was my covid symptom. Sounds to me like they’re the sensible ones. Of course you should take a test.

SirVixofVixHall · 27/12/2021 12:21

@Russelhobskettle

You need to go and get a PCR test. Or stay at home.
This. Runny nose, throat tickly, both of those warrant a PCR. At least half of all “colds” at the moment are Covid, according to Tim Spector.
MondeoFan · 27/12/2021 12:26

I'm sick of my family panicking too. I'm not even allowed in my parents house. They are 70 and 72 and in good health. My dad had prostate cancer around 10 years ago and is clear. Just goes back once a year to be checked.
I'm double jabbed, so are they. I work with children, because of this I'm not allowed in their house incase I give them Covid. I also have children that are in school so that's another reason. Ridiculous

montysma1 · 27/12/2021 12:28

They don't assume it doesn't work. it isn't 100% like any other vaccine.
Why is this difficult?

dittheringdoldrums · 27/12/2021 12:29

The scientists running the Zoe study are furious that the government refuses to chance the symptom list for accessing a covid test, as cold symptoms are the main ones for Omicrom.
@Strawbz8988 take a test or stay away from your family if they are anxious. Are you against taking a lateral flow? If so why?

montysma1 · 27/12/2021 12:30

Doesn't matter as long as she stays home for 10days.

WonderfulYou · 27/12/2021 12:31

notsohippychick · 27/12/2021 12:31

Of course you should get a test!!!!!!

You don’t need a fever to get a test. Your symptoms ARE covid symptoms.

Glitterblue · 27/12/2021 12:31

My daughter had no fever or cough when she tested positive. She was unwell for 3 weeks.

Lovelydovey · 27/12/2021 12:32

Do a test. Our 9 year old has just had covid - only symptoms were sniffles and a sore throat.

Stop with the blaming.

Even the most careful person can pass it on unknowingly. Doesn't make them selfish or ignorant. This attitude is so harmful. My teenage daughter was inconsolable when she tested positive (asymptomatic on routine term time LFT) and terrified she's be blamed by her friend group and cast out from them etc if any of them came down with Covid. it was horrible to see the impact of 'blame culture' on our young people.

You don't sound like a very nice person and I'm glad I don't know you.
