Boxing day is a strange day

Does anyone else agree? Are you supposed to try to recreate a watered down christmas day repeat or do things get back to normal? Some people go shopping but with the run up to christmas and shops that's the last thing I feel like doing. I guess a lot of people visit the family members they didn't see yesterday but what do you do if you've got no one to visit? What's everyone else doing? posting for traffic thanks

We have been pretty bored all day (me and 2 teens), we have watched tv, built Lego, Dd1 has moaned a lot and we have eaten so much rubbish. It’s been a bit of a downer because we don’t have family to visit, I visited my mum Christmas Eve and step dad was horrible to Dd1 (he always is) so I can’t visit my mum, so feeling a bit cut off today.

Trying to plan to do something tomorrow but the weathers looking awful. Dc were meant to be going to their dads but apparently he’s too busy to see his dc. Maybe we will brave the sales tomorrow or go for a walk if the rain holds off.

Boxing Day is always a bit dull.

Boxing day is better than Christmas day, there is less pressure & a relaxed atmosphere. We always snack on whatever we want, tonight we have had a table full of cheeses, pate, crackers, pickles, sausage rolls, pork pies, mince pies, Christmas cake & trifle.

I was thinking, this morning, that Boxing Day is a strange day.
We had a buffet of those bizarre "picky bits" ( not keen on that term but you know what I mean) and had cheese and biscuits for tea.
I almost feel relieved but I didn't find yesterday stressful .
I feel optimistic and stood in my garden for a while planning new planting ideas.

My Mum and brother went back to their own homes today (stayed xmas eve and Xmas day) so I have hoovered, tidied up and bit, walked the dog in the fog and ate a nice healthy Jacket spud and salad for tea,
Now planning to chill and drink gin and read my new book.

I love my family ( had my DS2, DD2, SIL and baby too, sadly rest of my kids are far away and working) but two nights is perfect.

The dog is looking relieved and has flopped and the NotourCat (adopted stray) is snoring on my bed.. both were scared of my brother's tiny little lap dog who terrorises them both! (he's cute but is bossy)

Tomorrow the tree will come down and all the decs put away and order will be restored Grin

I love boxing day more than christmas day. All the adrenaline worn off and the stress out of the way. I start the day with a walk then a hot bath, the rest of the day spent chilling with a book, nice food and drink and playing with the DC and their new presents.

@GaolBhoAlba

I love boxing day. Still a festive feel but more chilled than xmas day. Its one of the few days a year where I dont feel guilty for sitting doing nothing; just eating and watching telly!
This!

We’ve spent the day in pjs, had a lie in, fry up for brunch, have had films on in the background in one room, music in the other and have been unboxing and assembling toys, putting together tracks, building Lego, doing new jigsaws etc
We had leftover turkey and chips for tea, now I’m going to have a hot bath with my new bath things and watch a film in bed with the DC where they’ll fall asleep
Perfect!

Ate some sandwiches and chocolates, drank gin and put together lego and playmobil. God day!

BEST DAY OF THE YEAR!

Christmassy without the stress, no wrapping, less cooking, more time to relax.

cocktailclub · 26/12/2021 21:05

Usually I love it. This year has felt really flat. Our relatives couldn't come over as planned due to possible symptoms. One of my kids went to his partners family do so it's quieter than usual as was Christmas Day. Feeling a bit fed up.

CasperGutman · 26/12/2021 22:13

Your OP seems to suggests Boxing Day can either be another 25th or "back to normal". This is a false dichotomy.

Why can't it be it's own lovely holiday day, without the pressure to have some great experience so many people feel on Christmas Day itself?
