Boxing day is a strange day

Does anyone else agree? Are you supposed to try to recreate a watered down christmas day repeat or do things get back to normal? Some people go shopping but with the run up to christmas and shops that's the last thing I feel like doing. I guess a lot of people visit the family members they didn't see yesterday but what do you do if you've got no one to visit? What's everyone else doing? posting for traffic thanks

My local asda and tesco were open today but never went to either of them.

Mittenmob · 26/12/2021 16:26

We've got two young DC climbing the walls. Been on a very wet and muddy walk which just made them worse if anything. They won't watch a full film yet so it's just hours and hours and hours of dealing with tantrums and having to play imaginary games which is my most hated activity. Roll on nursery opening!

SpottyStripyDuvet · 26/12/2021 16:27

I normally hate boxing day, especially when the weather is bad. I find myself enjoying it a bit more now that DS is 6 as he is happy alternating between watching TV and playing with new toys so doesn't need constant supervision. We were out for some of yesterday so it is nice to have a quiet day.

I am cooking Nigella's ham in coke for the first time and will start my Christmas gin in the next half an hour.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 26/12/2021 16:27

GH playing board games with five friends all afternoon; I am having a lazy day doing not-a-lot.

itsgettingweird · 26/12/2021 16:27

We tend to chill. Often pop to my parents for buffet lunch to help eat the leftovers (we also go Xmas day but they are 10 mins drive away!).

Unpack gifts, sometimes put stuff away. Watch a film.

Today we've been sorting ds bedroom because we are doing last bits of his room which includes getting new bed delivered next week!

We tend to chill Boxing Day because he trains up to and including Xmas eve and is back on the 27th!

Furrydogmum · 26/12/2021 16:27

Woke up to snow at 3a.m. so fretted about ds23 getting to work at 5.15a.m. til he let me know all was well. DH went to PILS to mend a door that stuck on Xmas day. I fried up some leftover veg for my brunch and now drinking prosecco whilst happily parping around the kitchen prepping curry for this evening. DH home now and just keeps tutting in disgust at the parps :-)

QuornSausagesAreTheDevilsPenis · 26/12/2021 16:28

Lie in, cooked breakfast, muddy walk to the pub, bath, nice dinner and probably a film.

nancybotwinbloom · 26/12/2021 16:28

Nothing.
Played roblox with my DD for a bit. I'm getting better at it apparently.

Watched barb and star and then white chicks.
We ate half a box of dairy box in bed.
Then got up had a shower. New jamas on.

Picky tea, wine and playing board games with DD in a bit. DH watching sport.

Just a chill really.

senorafridgidaire · 26/12/2021 16:29

Took the dog out this morning, been sat on my bum watching TV since, had a ploughman's for lunch and now having a beer watching the football. Will have a shower and get dressed up shortly, some nice food and games night tonight

Sparklingbrook · 26/12/2021 16:29

I bet the shops were full of customers saying to the staff 'I can't believe you have to work on Boxing Day' while they served them.

mogsrus · 26/12/2021 16:29

@AnnaBolina

Boxing Day, we eat Christmas snack foods, watch a film, have bubble and squeak for lunch or dinner, the kids play with their toys... it's a chilled day
The first Boxing Day for years when I’m not working, bored can’t wait for Monday
ThatsMySantaHisBeardIsSoFluffy · 26/12/2021 16:33

I went to the allotment purely to feed the birds today. I did do some weeding, but only so I could watch the birds once I'd put the food out!

The kids have played on the Switch and built more Christmas Lego. I have hunted for bits so DD can rebuild a set she got for her birthday, which DS broke up. I'm almost there, but need to do some proper hunting now. It can wait til they're in bed now!

I need to clean the kitchen, as that's a Sunday job generally. Might do it tomorrow, however!

mogsrus · 26/12/2021 16:33

I love it when people say such silly things like I can’t believe working on such & such, then go home & watch telly, who the hell is seeing to all that then. Working in cinemas for 20 yrs Boxing Day was always busy

SpookyScarySkeletons · 26/12/2021 16:34

@gloriousgolden

Usually we go hunting but it's fallen on a Sunday this year so we're just doing xmas day round two 🥂 seen lots of people out on the Boxing Day family walk when I rode the horses this morning.
Hunting? Really? Hmm
Benjispruce5 · 26/12/2021 16:34

@Beachbreak2411 can’t you still do that without your brother’s family?

We used to always go to the cinema on Boxing Day. When going to the cinema wasn't a complete nightmare.
Benjispruce5 · 26/12/2021 16:35

Booooo to hunting.Angry

HideousKinky · 26/12/2021 16:36

I find the whole period between Christmas and New Year strange

mogsrus · 26/12/2021 16:37

And you were a child once so they are probably doing no different to what you did

Twilight7777 · 26/12/2021 16:37

We don’t do much, just chill out watch tv, films, eat bubble and squeak, ham turkey slices, cheese board, etc. Loads of chocolate later on

rc22 · 26/12/2021 16:39

@GaolBhoAlba

I love boxing day. Still a festive feel but more chilled than xmas day. Its one of the few days a year where I dont feel guilty for sitting doing nothing; just eating and watching telly!
This!! Lovely chill out day with none of the massive expectation of Christmas day.
Bagamoyo1 · 26/12/2021 16:39

I know what you mean OP. I can’t decide if we’re still meant to be in Christmas mode (eating chocolate and lazing around) or if I’m meant to be being productive and and purposeful!

Hellolittlestar · 26/12/2021 16:40

I think Boxing Day is brilliant. Stay at home and watch tv without feeling guilty, nobody has to cook as there are so many leftovers. Eventually go for a walk if you can be bothered. Nothing very festive about it, just a day where it’s ok to be lazy :)

ToykotoLosAngeles · 26/12/2021 16:40

DH and DS are building lego. I've just had a bath. We went out today into town which is walking distance - I raided the Body Shop sale and DH sorted out a new phone. Wine, cheese and a film after DS is in bed. It's just like a Sunday really - not much to dislike.

ImHavingAnOldFriendForDinner · 26/12/2021 16:43

Absolutely hate Boxing Day, I always feel really claustrophobic. It's as if we should all still be in a Christmassy mood but we aren't so everyone pretends, there isn't anywhere to go and today the weather is rubbish so a nice long walk is out of the window. We don't really do big family Christmases so it's just the 4 of us, excitement for the kids has gone and I just want everything back to normal!
