Boxing day is a strange day

Does anyone else agree? Are you supposed to try to recreate a watered down christmas day repeat or do things get back to normal? Some people go shopping but with the run up to christmas and shops that's the last thing I feel like doing. I guess a lot of people visit the family members they didn't see yesterday but what do you do if you've got no one to visit? What's everyone else doing? posting for traffic thanks

@Benjispruce5

Sorry to hear that *@Puffalicious* and well done for not spreading it about. Get well soon!
Thanks. Feeling rubbish. All the fizz has gone out of the festive period for me.

Normally we go to in-laws on Boxing Day for a roast having seen them Christmas Day afternoon for a buffet. This year we have stayed at home as one member of the family is ill. Everyone's just doing there own thing. I've walked the dog, done three wash loads, watched some tv. Long drive tomorrow then shorter drive later in the week so having an easy day.

thismeansnothing · 26/12/2021 17:00

I've had my mum and dsis round to give the kids their presents and have a picky lunch. Kids are knackered and I've got work tonight so we weren't up for much

RedRobin100 · 26/12/2021 17:00

I always liked Boxing Day. A watered down Christmas Day but less stressful / no expectations

JaceLancs · 26/12/2021 17:01

Had a long lie in then a bath - sat around watching catch up tv and reading on my kindle
DM spent Xmas day with DB so she is coming to our house tonight for buffet and leftovers

delilahbucket · 26/12/2021 17:02

Nowhere to be, nothing to do, it's a brilliant day. We have had a nice walk, tidied up after yesterday, and gearing up for Christmas dinner round two while lounging around. It's such a rarity to have a day with nothing to do.

StFrancisdeCompostela · 26/12/2021 17:02

Eating large quantities of cheese, playing our christmas board games, reading our christmas books, one brisk walk, quite a lot of sherry.

Curlyreine · 26/12/2021 17:05

I loved Boxing Day as a kid as we all got together at my grandparents.

Currently it's a chill out day for us. Nice walk, leftovers for lunch, nap and bits for tea. Finish opening the presents as didn't manage all of them yesterday.

I love Boxing Day!

FangsForTheMemory · 26/12/2021 17:06

When I was a child we always spent Boxing Day with relatives we saw at no other time. It was dire. I've spent today eating up leftovers and going for a nice walk. Now I've got two bottles of wine to finish. My kind of day.

HelloDaisy · 26/12/2021 17:13

We’ve had a lovely day, relaxing and fun. Not much cooking going on as we’re all eating leftovers and grazing all day.

We played board games and indoor olympics this morning and just lying on the sofa watching films this afternoon. Have FaceTimed relatives over the 2 days which was lovely and have my brother and his wife staying with us.

jocktamsonsbairn · 26/12/2021 17:13

Doing sweet FA as dd came down with symptoms last night so PCRs today. Isolating till we get results. DC meant to be a working and I was meant to be out at a friends who lives far away and I haven't seen her for months. 😞

BringUsSomeFrigginPudding · 26/12/2021 17:14

It's a half-way special day for me. It's nothing exciting , but it's particularly pleasant to have the day free to recover from the festivities of Christmas Day. Mostly it's sitting around doing not much (eating leftovers, reading, playing mindless games), but I do just start putting the house slightly back to order. Dealing with dishes and the mud the dogs tracked in. Putting away wrapping paper and ribbons from last-minute gift-wrapping. Looking more closely at gifts and deciding where they'll live.

Allycott · 26/12/2021 17:14

@gloriousgolden

Usually we go hunting but it's fallen on a Sunday this year so we're just doing xmas day round two 🥂 seen lots of people out on the Boxing Day family walk when I rode the horses this morning.
So fucking glad you're day didn't go to plan.
MuchuseasaChocolateTeapot · 26/12/2021 17:15

Normally I enjoy Boxing Day, relaxed, board games etc, but it’s just so ‘grey’ feeling this year. My DP and Dsis and BIL are all here and I wish they’d just piss off so I can watch TV in peace.

MrsBerthaRochester · 26/12/2021 17:16

Had to run to shops for cleaning stuff as the dog my friend brought spent the whole of xmas eve puking everywhere. My house stinks and I have had to bin my months old rug.
Fell asleep on couch knackered and just woke up. Pissed off as missed all the shows/movies I had planned to watch.

Crunchymum · 26/12/2021 17:18

We were out of the house for most of the day yesterday (having a lovely time with family) so today has been a PJ days. Kids have been able to play with all their toys / watch films / chill and I'm doing our own Christmas dinner - complete with crackers - to use up all the stuff I'd bought incase the family dinner got cancelled.

I'm supping Baileys and finishing off the dinner in my tracksuit Grin

IamGusFring · 26/12/2021 17:19

@DreamerSeven

Stay home, watch films, eat leftovers, that’s about it. Much prefer it to Christmas Day.
yes yes yes ! 😁
PuzzledObserver · 26/12/2021 17:19

Travelled home from DM’s place (2 hour + drive) where had spent Christmas. Motorways were tolerable. Spent the afternoon dossing round, with the exception of a 40 minute walk.

WutheringHeights66 · 26/12/2021 17:20

Well I’m a MN enemy because I spend the run up to Christmas Day running myself ragged doing too much so I like Boxing Day.

Today I’ve taken down all my decorations, cleaned the house and am now eating Christmas dinner leftovers and watching crocodile Dundee with a bottle of fizz and I finally feel like yeh this is ok ✅

beenthereboughtthetshirt · 26/12/2021 17:21

Tradition dictates that you are supposed to lay faced down in the wrapping paper and ribbons strewn with gay abandon listening to the background lull of The Two Ronnies magical old films only stirring to eat more chocolate tree decorations and MN.

The first day since about September when the pressure of Christmas expectations has vanished back up the chimney...

Bliss.....Xmas Grin

invinoveritass · 26/12/2021 17:21

@Allycott don't worry we're all out tomorrow, we don't hunt on a Sunday.. 🙄

Luredbyapomegranate · 26/12/2021 17:22

We have a more chilled version of Christmas Day - cold cuts, salad etc. Still with extended family.

Usually a long walk which there is never time for on C’mas Day.

Scottsy100 · 26/12/2021 17:23

I usually love Boxing Day as if family members have had to go in laws etc on Xmas Day we would usually see them on Boxing Day, I have a big family and usually Boxing Day is an extension of Xmas Day for us, 2 mad but lovely days, This year my 11 year old son tested positive on the 20th for Covid so it’s been a very horrible lonely Xmas with just me, him (mostly isolating in his room) and my 3 year old daughter. This years Xmas can F right off

AdditionalCharacter · 26/12/2021 17:23

I prefer Boxing Day to Christmas Day.

We don't go anywhere, stay in our PJs all day eating whatever buffet stuff I can be arsed to cook, drinking Buck's Fizz, playing board games and building Lego. It's a great day.

galacticpixels · 26/12/2021 17:24

We've just gone with the flow today. We had a very lazy morning, then after a big feed of leftovers for lunch we decided to go for a big walk. Now we're going to play some board games and later we'll have some cheese and crackers, and maybe read or watch a movie.

We had a quiet and lazy Christmas day.
