Boxing day is a strange day

Does anyone else agree? Are you supposed to try to recreate a watered down christmas day repeat or do things get back to normal? Some people go shopping but with the run up to christmas and shops that's the last thing I feel like doing. I guess a lot of people visit the family members they didn't see yesterday but what do you do if you've got no one to visit? What's everyone else doing? posting for traffic thanks

Go for a walk;
Eat Xmas day Leftovers;
Chill in PJs all day;
Watch TV

I find 1st-24th December very exciting but Christmas itself is a bit of an anti climax. And by Boxing Day i’’m craving some normality. The worst bit is Crimbo Limbo week, that bizarre time between Christmas and New Year!

MintyGreenDream · 26/12/2021 18:08

Dh and ds 7 were playing xbox this morning so I nipped to the retail park to look around the Boots sales.It was lovely and quiet because the M&S food and Next arent open till tomorrow

Boxing Day is my favourite day of the year. The run up to Christmas and the day itself is so much work. Today I've done a bit of yoga, had a snacky lunch, half watched a film with the DC and am now reading while DH makes fajitas with the leftover goose and DBro (who is visiting for the holidays) plays a boardgame with the DC. Bliss. One of the DC has a birthday this week and we've got family coming for Hogmanay but today is my day of rest.

NotQuiteUsual · 26/12/2021 18:15

Boxing day is epic! The food is already cooked. Everything I like is in. No pressure to do anything. Just lovely relaxing with my immediate family.

Eat, watch the, play with toys/gifts,

I used to love it - we had Xmas Day at our house and then the next day we'd go to my paternal grandparents and spend the day with them my uncles and my maternal grandma. More food, presents and family. Now all of the grandparents are gone and it's so boring in comparison. Normally we potter about playing with the new toys and games, and eat leftovers.

This year we sort of did that, but DH was in a mood and sulked about all day, so I did all of the parenting until about 5:30. DM stayed over last night and went home at 9:30am, so I did a full day with a 7 and 3 year old. It wasn't too bad, they played with toys, watched TV at lunch (I had a quick snooze) and then I took them out so DD could try her new scooter.

When we got back it was time for their baths, now I'm having one. Just a normal Sunday really, except I'd normally have DH helping.

I love that week, this is when we do most of our things eg theatre, cinema, train ride. It's a holiday week, see friends/family

I love Boxing Day. I always cook extra on Christmas Day so there’s plenty of leftovers which we have for tea. I’ve started my new book and my jigsaw, half heartedly watched a film, eaten lots of chocolate and generally lazed about. This year has been so hectic and Christmas Day is always busy that it’s good to not feel guilty about doing nothing.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 26/12/2021 18:29

Worked some, then went for a walk, now cooking a curry and watching the Witcher.

BoredZelda · 26/12/2021 18:29

We have a smaller Christmas and do our visiting on Boxing Day.

mam0918 · 26/12/2021 18:29

Im confused about the point of boxing day too... loads of people make out like its a big thing but I don't get it and always wondering if Im suppose to be doing something.

I even googled it and cant find an answer to what the point of it is.

BogRollBOGOF · 26/12/2021 18:31

It was supposed to be catching up with a relative for the first time in two years... instead I had a roadtrip out to the next county to shiver in a long PCR queue.

We tend to catch up with different family groups from Boxing Day to New Year. I like it that way as it spreads the load from Christmas and spreads the fun more evenly.
Better luck next year though...

Jellycatspyjamas · 26/12/2021 18:40

Boxing Day is a lazy one for me after all the Christmas prep, visitors and visiting. The week up to Christmas was a stressy shit show and I’m knackered so I’ve had a day of watching mindless tv and feeding kids leftovers, they’ve been playing with Christmas toys and generally just chilling. I love Boxing Day.

Livelovebehappy · 26/12/2021 18:41

@gloriousgolden

Usually we go hunting but it's fallen on a Sunday this year so we're just doing xmas day round two 🥂 seen lots of people out on the Boxing Day family walk when I rode the horses this morning.
Silver lining for the foxes today then. How lucky are they that they get a boxing day reprieve this year....☺ yeayy for the foxes!

I have a very young family and it’s been a bit of a meh one as the weather’s been so poor (fog, freezing cold, drizzle). It’s my eldest’s birthday tomorrow so family etc are all coming then.

However we’ve had two trips out to different parks to get everyone out of the house and in the fresh air. Eldest has watched bits of films and YouTube videos, and done a bit of crafting. We made wrap pizzas for lunch. The babies have played with their new presents and eldest has argued that the babies’ presents are hers. Nowhere was really open today so no indoor activities to do. With three little ones we can’t just sit about doing nothing and watching tv, or even take a very long walk as eldest wouldn’t manage too far.

Pre kids we had different boxing days- long walks and a stop at the pub to play cards against humanity, Boxing Day sales, visiting family and going to the panto (kids still too young for this). Looking forward to them being a little older and really enjoying the Christmas break.

Dontgetyerknicksinatwist · 26/12/2021 18:47

It’s my favourite day of the year. None of the pressure of Christmas Day and I can eat, drink and do whatever I like 😊

rosegoldwatcher · 26/12/2021 18:50

Feeling like a popped balloon today after weeks of prepping, shopping (mostly on-line), wrapping and cooking.
I fell asleep whist watching Don't Look Up on Netflix.
Haven't felt hungry so far but husband is producing lovely smells in the kitchen, making a beef madras with (some of) the rib of beef from yesterday.
When I was young we always went to a Boxing Day party at my godparents' house.

pictish · 26/12/2021 18:55

Today - went to mil’s for a drink and some picky bits earlier. Other than that, eating, napping, chilling…going to put a film on in a bit.
Very relaxed. I will be looking to smarten my shit up tomorrow.

CantChatNow · 26/12/2021 18:59

I quite often fall out with my Dh on Boxing Day - he likes to spend it parked in front of the tv eating, I like to go on a very long walk. Normally we compromise and go on a shorter walk then I turn around and go back out for a run.

I prefer Christmas when being lazy feels novel!

Mulhollandmagoo · 26/12/2021 19:01

We usually stay in and relax, and we ut today we went to FIL's for a lovely roast beef lunch (his roasts are the best) then came home put on some Pj's and watched TV, its been lovely! We've had an absolutely lovely Christmas period this year all things considered

alongwayhome · 26/12/2021 19:04

Walk this morning, pub this afternoon. Leftovers for dinner!

Barton10 · 26/12/2021 19:16

Just me and DH today we didn’t get up until 12:30, and have dozed in front of the tv and eaten. Perfect day for me. I had a shower and put clean pjs on as I didn’t want to get dressed. If it is nice enough we will get out to the coast tomorrow.

madamehooch · 26/12/2021 19:18

Went to work. Non-essential retail. Surprisingly busy.

2pinkginsplease · 26/12/2021 19:19

We have a second Christmas Day at the in-laws.
