to ask how much wine you’d buy in this situation

NB - this is a LIGHTHEARTED thread

DH went to do the Christmas food shop today. I told him what I needed for the pudding and said ‘can you get a fair bit of wine as I want a drink tonight, tomorrow and we need for Christmas Day’.

On CD we’re having PIL. So 4 adults. FIL will have one glass of bubbles. MIL, DH and I all drink but not to excess.

I like a drink but don’t drink masses or that but I do like it and DH drinks rarely.

Given this information how much sparkling wine would you buy?

As reminder sparkling wine for:

Me tonight
Me tomorrow
4 adults on CD

Once I’ve had a few answers I’ll divulge how many DH bought.

2 bottles of red
2 bottles of white
1 bottle of rose (always one guest who asks for it).
3 bottles of prosecco
Possible bottle of Chambord or gin liqueur for potential prosecco cocktails .

I also have a terror of under catering

I hear you. Once, after a party, it literally took us a year to drink the leftovers. But that's the lovely thing about booze - doesn't go off.

Merryoldgoat · 23/12/2021 20:55

Ok. I’ve had my first bottle. Feel pleasantly tipsy.

I should add I’ve had an absolutely shocking few months. I’ve had two bouts of bronchitis, my two bits have had colds, Norovirus and then a non specific virus - they haven’t both been at school together for more than two days since half term.

Oh and I had such bad sciatica begat I posted here for advice (which was invaluable).

Frankly I think I’m lucky I don’t have a substance abuse problem.

Hmmmmm. Those typos suggest I might be more than ‘tipsy’…

I’ve had Boxing Day sprung on me.

16 people 4 won’t drink much.

4 boxes of wine as I don’t remember what wine people like.
6 bottles of Prosecco
Bottle of port.
48 cans of lager.
24 cans of cider.
28 cans of coke.
2 3 litre bottles of lemonade.

I may have gone otc though 😂😂

stingofthebutterfly · 23/12/2021 20:57

I'm on his side. Wine is fucking vile.

Sportsnight · 23/12/2021 21:01

I’d have gone for 4 prosecco, I think. You 2 nights in a row - half a bottle a night? 3 left for the day. But I’m assuming prosecco isn’t the only drink in the house. For 6 adults on Christmas Day I’d cater a bottle a head of red/white on top of the Prosecco. And a bottle of port. It’s a long day.

theSunday · 23/12/2021 21:02

5 (6 if you want to indulge)

Merryoldgoat · 23/12/2021 21:12

Ok. Tesco Whoosh has added 4 bottles which will be perfectly adequate - we have gin, rum, port (found some I the back of the cupboard), 5 bottles of Prosecco and PIL will certainly bring some stuff.

Good-o - I’m happy now.

teenagetantrums · 23/12/2021 21:18

I'd have and do have.
6 bottles of prosecco
6 bottles of white
6 bottles of red
It doesn't go off so plenty for new year and after.
Not to mention all the spirits we have 🤣

IamGusFring · 23/12/2021 21:31

@Merryoldgoat

I LOVE YOU ALL!

Three. He bought THREE bottles of Prosecco.

I’d have got 8 as it will last.

We are not short of money. He is not in ANY WAY tight. He just has a strange blind spot with booze.

I’ll go to coop tomorrow and buy a few more, no biggie.

But it’s like he’s forgotten who he’s married to!

I knew he would get three as all he is thinking is 3 occasions - typical man !
IamGusFring · 23/12/2021 21:32

@DrCoconut

I'd buy 2 bottles. Or maybe 3 if you think you may need more. Depends on how much you drink really.
😂😂😂 you are the husband
LadyRoughDiamond · 23/12/2021 21:35

Personal motto: always go for at least a case - 4 red (rose in summer), 4 white, 4 fizz. Literally ready for anything.

Merryoldgoat · 23/12/2021 21:35

So….

I’ve opened a second bottle. 🤣

However I’m also decorating and tidying and pottering. So it cancels it out really.

@Scrooge89 I was also going to suggest Cremant de Bourg. Miles better than Prosecco, and cheaper than Champagne.

LadyRoughDiamond · 23/12/2021 21:41

@Merryoldgoat to be fair, I currently have Covid so no sense of taste. As a result, my husband is trying to get me to work through all the dodgy holiday booze, reasoning that anything else would be a waste.

Merryoldgoat · 23/12/2021 21:46

@LadyRoughDiamond

Oh dear! I don’t have covid but today is the first day I’ve felt human after bout two of bronchitis and I’ve decided to enjoy it.

I have literally nothing to do tomorrow except make the pudding.

I did my shopping and wrapping weeks ago, the house is clean as a whistle and the kids are happy as larks and healthy.

I’m getting the happiness and joy where I can.

OP posts:
sqirrelfriends · 23/12/2021 21:48

I'd say 3.

Half a bottle x 2 days for you

Half a bottle each on Christmas Day (assuming there are other drinks?)

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 23/12/2021 21:49
@chocolatesaltyballs22 I may have had 24 bottles delivered yesterday myself…
Good work.

Emmelina · 23/12/2021 21:52

I’d err on the overbuying side myself with at least 6. If it’s unopened it keeps for another time, but if you run out that’ll be it as nowhere open to stock up for a couple of days.

kitkatsky · 23/12/2021 21:53

Omg, at least ten! 😂 Better ri have Prosecco in the cupboard than not enough?
