Boris. Would everyone love him if he was not blonde?

Looking at our current PM, it occurred to me that he might not be so appealing to us if he had dark hair? Would he be viewed as a possible case of self neglect requiring assistance rather than the bouncy Labrador he is seen as?

OP posts:
phishy · 23/12/2021 13:17

I'd say yes, we are as a society are indoctrinated to see blond as angelic, good etc and dark as bad.

TheCreamCaker · 23/12/2021 13:18

Boris a bouncy labrador? I'd say he's more like some flea-ridden, mangy mongrel.

RoyalFamilyFan · 23/12/2021 13:18

He should have stayed as a columnist appearing on game shows. That is his real level.
He is wholly unsuited to any job that requires real work and professionalism.
I have no idea how any woman is attracted to him. He is not attractive and fat and dresses very badly.

Loveinacoldishclimate · 23/12/2021 13:19

@5128gap I wish I read your post before I posted. I agree completely. He does speak to a certain type.

TheWayTheLightFalls · 23/12/2021 13:19

I think OP talks sense. It's eye-catching and he has milked it to feed into his flamboyant image - one way he stops people looking past that image.

I agree with this.

KloppKrazy · 23/12/2021 13:21

I know it's harsh but since I know what he thinks of Scousers I'll "publicly" agree with that last paragraph RoyalFamyFan.

Fangdango · 23/12/2021 13:21

@CorrBlimeyGG

The people that like him are the 'all lives matter'/ 'British jobs for British people' crowd. What they really mean is white lives matter/ British jobs for white people. Johnson's appearance plays well to his audience.
I think bias towards blue eyed blonds (and people perceived as attractive by prevailing cultural norms) runs well outside this group though- there are loads of studies on it. Blond kids get more media attention / waitresses more tips / women perceived as less aggressive. If it was just outright racists/ Nazi Germany it would be less of a problem.

You are right though that we aren't saying everyone loves blond Boris. Just Boris uses his blondness to charm some people. Presumably wouldn't work if we were all Swedish...

LakieLady · 23/12/2021 13:21

I think most people hate him because he's a lying, malicious, self-serving shit.

I hate him more than I hated Thatcher. I didn't believe that was possible.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 23/12/2021 13:22

I can’t stand him. He cannot string a sentence together, answer a question, make a decision. He is physically unattractive to me, I have no idea how he has had so many women. His look is part of his image to appeal to certain voters for sure. What others see as endearing appears weak and frivolous to me. Good leaders lead by example, not by telling the masses that they are plebs and should do as he says not do as he does.

Bollockstothat · 23/12/2021 13:23

I think it probably did make a difference, back when he was popular - though the bumbling posh boy act might have worked anyway, since it's now so deeply embedded in English culture as shorthand for charming and likeable (thank you and fuck off Richard Curtis).

There's a character in Dickens' Little Dorrit who's a monstrous exploiter of the poor but who everyone thinks is wise and benign because he has a beautiful head of shoulder-length white hair. He gets his comeuppance when someone cuts it off and everyone sees what he's really like. I've often thought that Dickens would have taken one look at Johnson and recognised the type.

And though no-one has taken the scissors to John's comb-over (sadly), the effect of the last month or so has been the same. However blond and bumbling you are, when the audience at the world darts championship are singing "Stand up if you hate Boris" and a football stadium is chanting "Boris Johnson is a cunt", you're done. You can't put the shine back on a politician once it's been rubbed off.

KloppKrazy · 23/12/2021 13:23

I have some respect for Thatcher as a person though being anti most of her policies.

KloppKrazy · 23/12/2021 13:24

The darts was good.

TulipsGarden · 23/12/2021 13:24

The man is a pathological liar. The only good thing about him being PM at the worst possible time is that people are now seeing through his 'loveable buffon' facade.

Also, surely that blonde hair should be going grey by now?

Fangdango · 23/12/2021 13:26

@Puppymania

I own a bouncy labrador, he is an idiot most of the time, but a dog and I can forgive him his mistakes. Boris is supposedly a well educated man, which makes his actions even more disgusting. I loath him with a passion, whatever his hair colour! He is a cheat and a liar in all aspects of his life, I don't trust him or our press at the moment.
Would he be willing to mount a leadership challenge please Xmas Grin
Maassi · 23/12/2021 13:27

Blonde is female, Blond is male. Either way, he's still a dangerous man.

Bellusaurus · 23/12/2021 13:31

@Maassi

Well we don't know Boris's pronouns, do we?

wiffle/waffle maybe?

SwedishEdith · 23/12/2021 13:32

I know that there is bias towards blond/es like a pp said but the darker haired one (Leo) is easily the better looking of them.

Boris is physically repulsive and ageing very badly.

Boris. Would everyone love him if he was not blonde?
CounsellorTroi · 23/12/2021 13:33

A bouncy Labrador could probably do a better job of running the country than Boris is.

Fangdango · 23/12/2021 13:34

Darker hair is meant to be a bit more forgiving on aging skin, isn't it. So if he hasn't stayed off the port and shaded his English Rose complexion ...

Leo looks faintly embarrassed to be in the line up, if I'm not projecting ...

TrashyPanda · 23/12/2021 13:39

Boris is a piece of shit.
His hair is one of the least shitty things about him.

GrendelsGrandma · 23/12/2021 13:40

His hair is a brand, like Donald Trump's. They know it's ridiculous but it's memorable, connects with people, gives a sense of fun and suggests they can get away with things that most people can't.

If Boris Johnson was bald and went by his real name (Alex), people would just think he was a pompous twat. The hair makes him a kind of fun cartoon.

WeatherwaxOn · 23/12/2021 13:44

@MissBattleaxe

If he had different hair he'd still be an odious, lying amoral tit.
Indeed Regardless of his hair colour or style he'd still be a smug, arrogant, self-serving incompetent wastrel.
Happylargo · 23/12/2021 13:44

I used to think he was funny before he went into politics but I see now that was his ‘act’ to get into public life and create a lot of damage. His blonde, scruffy hair is part of the Benny Hill act.

BiscuitLover3678 · 23/12/2021 13:45

Yes! Back in the day be was the bumbly blond, floppy haired fool.

Hopefully most people see past jt now.

YourenutsmiLord · 23/12/2021 13:46

People say the voters like him because of his sense of humour, blonde hair, fun attitude but as I remember there was a choice of errrrrr no one going to sort out Brexit and after 2 years of no agreements there was Boris who would 'get brexit done' and absolutely no one else.
So it was sheer desperation that got him in - none of his 'endearing' traits. He had been mayor of London for a good few years so that will have honed his skills at public speaking, getting on the front page.

Other than that he was all there was.
He has now run his course so he needs to go.
