The sooner we all admit this, the better. You're just lying to yourselves if you say otherwise.

The worst are the people who say "oh but if you fry them with bacon and crack cocaine they taste great." No. That is the bacon and drugs being worsened by this green hell.

Let's admit this once and for all.

I am absolutely in love with sprouts, they need to be fresh. They need to be small and they need to be cooked well.
Cooking well involves removing the little hardened end and any less than glorious leaves. Then I let them steam super, super gently until perfectly cooked but well before the farts stage. I enjoy mine with Dijon mustard.

BringUsSomeFrigginPudding · 20/12/2021 02:21

They're awful. DH doesn't like them, either, so we never have them in our house.

miltonj · 20/12/2021 02:26

I like them. Obviously they are better with chestnuts, bacon etc. But toast is better with Nutella, doesn't mean toast without Nutella Is not good.
People like different things. I don't like parsnips and never been too bothered about potato's in any form, even when roared in goose fat.

JingleRattles · 20/12/2021 02:27

I used to hate them until I tried them shredded up and stir fried

beenthereboughtthetshirt · 20/12/2021 02:39

very nice raw in a slaw

and now i rhyme...

WeasilyPleased · 20/12/2021 02:40

They are utterly delicious. We eat them all year round. 😋

QuinnMovesOn · 20/12/2021 03:15

I'm wondering if maybe there's a genetic component to this, like with people for whom cilantro tastes like soap (I'm one of them.)

SantaClawsServiette · 20/12/2021 03:51

I love sprouts.

Yes, like a lot of the brassicas, some people taste them as very bitter, while others don't.
Bogeyes · 20/12/2021 03:54

Sprouts are delicious

HelloBunny · 20/12/2021 03:56

I love them. Just steamed, and not to the mushy / smelly stage. And no fancy bacon nonsense, either... Been having them all through December. Yummy!

PositivelyFooked · 20/12/2021 03:59

I love them, on their own but they are exceedingly better with fried pancetta or lardons and roasted chestnuts. Mmmmm I can’t wait for Christmas 😍

MrsClatterbuck · 20/12/2021 04:05

Love sprouts. I just steam them and then put butter on them. When growing up I used to pinch the cold left over sprouts from Christmas dinner and eat them cold.

Having said that when on holiday in Lanzarote and celebrating our wedding anniversary by going out somewhere for a posh meal we chose what looked a really nice steak restaurant. They cooked the steak in front of you but they served it with brussel sprouts which was very bizarre. I do love them but not with my steak and no way were they fresh. Dh hates sprouts.

Barbarantia · 20/12/2021 04:09

Sprouts from November till February Xmas Wink yummmmm

MrsClatterbuck · 20/12/2021 04:17

@MobyDicksTinyCanoe

I love them

I also own probably the only kids in the world who love sprouts and liver with mash. Grin

Love liver bacon and onions but DH hates liver. Tempted to do it someday for me and might just try sprouts with it. That would be Dh's worst nightmare. Have always loved liver and sprouts even as a child. Once made this liver stroganoff dish with mushrooms and sherry but DH wouldn't even try it.
sashh · 20/12/2021 04:33

I love them.

JackieWeaverHandforthCouncil · 20/12/2021 05:02

I love them so much I can eat whole bowls of them boiled with some butter, salt and black pepper. In fact I’ll have that for lunch tomorrow. DH and the kids are horrified by them. They make me a bit gassy though which is the only downside.

Amymamabear89 · 20/12/2021 05:38

Oooh I love them! …… I do also love broccoli too……. Lol what I have never liked it crunchy veggies! Got to love them soft!

ivykaty44 · 20/12/2021 06:25

I eat out yesterday and the roast was great, apart from the sprouts, they just over cooked them slightly and that when they start to taste sour

I like sprouts well cooked but never boil for more than 5 minutes

Bloodybridget · 20/12/2021 06:32

I love them, they don't have to be jazzed up with bacon or onion or chestnuts either, just perfectly cooked and with some butter.

ivykaty44 · 20/12/2021 06:32

SantaClawsServiette

“Turns out the bitter taste that some of us really detest is a result of thiocyanates, an acidic antioxidant, and glucosinolate compounds that are released during the cooking process”

Thus not over boiling or cooking as then they don’t become bitter. Short cooking and halving

SpeckyWithTheGoodHair · 20/12/2021 06:33

I love them.

Especially good with mayonnaise

the80sweregreat · 20/12/2021 06:34

I like them

JabNotInArm · 20/12/2021 06:38

Delicious little cabbages. They're not bitter anymore - if they're well cooked they're crunchy and sweet and juicy. Yum!

CeeceeBloomingdale · 20/12/2021 06:39

I love them, one of my favourite vegetables!
