To ask - If you could only have THREE veg on your Christmas dinner?

goldenoldie1 · 19/12/2021 22:17

Top three options if that was the limit for Xmas dinner?

Mine is probably parsnips, nice carrots and broccoli.

I know I'm going to change my mind when I see other responses.

Sweet corn
Roasted butternut squash
More sweet corn

ScouseQueen · 19/12/2021 23:54

Cauliflower cheese
Carrots with honey and thyme
Sprouts with bacon

mangodreams · 19/12/2021 23:55

If potatoes are not included then:

Parsnips
Broccoli
Carrots

Sprouts are disgusting and not a fan of cauliflower, swede or red cabbage.

Brainfogmcfogface · 19/12/2021 23:55

Cabbage, Sweetcorn and carrots

Chickpea22 · 19/12/2021 23:58

Parsnips, red cabbage and potatoes

Twillow · 19/12/2021 23:58

Glazed carrots, roasted parsnips and fancy sprouts (cut in half and roasted with bacon and chestnuts).
I am baffled by cauliflower cheese as a vegetable side!

PickAChew · 19/12/2021 23:59

@IgiveupallthenamesIwantedareg0

Potatoes ARE a vegetable. Why does anyone need / want different 3 vegetables just because it's Christmas Dinner????????? Potatoes = yes Brussel sprouts with or without whatever you want = yes Third veg = no need!
I like veg and any meal feels incomplete without a decent quantity and variety of it.
TitoMojito · 20/12/2021 00:01

Same as you, OP. In fact that's exactly what I've bought Grin plus the obligatory sprouts.

mommal20 · 20/12/2021 00:05

Baby carrots - must be baby carrots specifically, idk why but they taste better Halo

Potatoes - roasted and mashed! Gotta have both Grin

Garden peas - love them Blush

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 20/12/2021 00:15

Mine is the same as yours @goldenoldie1 - except I prefer my carrots in batons and just boiled till tender, ditto with broccoli. I do roast my parsnips with honey though, divine!

I am doing that, plus sprouts, and cauliflower cheese this Xmas. I don't like those but others do and I don't mind the indulgence one day a year.

DBI78 · 20/12/2021 00:28

Seriously why are we counting potato as a vegetable!!
Ok fine -
Roasties
Carrot and swede mash
Roast onions

I know it's technically 4!!!!!

Anaximedes · 20/12/2021 00:29

Roast parsnips.

Mangetout OR broccoli OR green beans

Carrots. Not too many.

(Am not counting potatoes as a veg here.)

uneffingbelievable · 20/12/2021 00:35

Sprouts, SProuts and more sprouts

And if I had to
cauliflower and carrots

LittleRoundRobin · 20/12/2021 00:37

Roast potatoes
Sprouts
Peas.

I have more than that on a standard Sunday dinner - usually carrots, green beans, broccoli and baby corn. Usually cauliflower too either with the veg or in the form of cauli cheese. I simplify it for Xmas but 3 veg (not including root veg eg roasts and parsnips) . I do carrots and leeks cooked in stock with butter and ground pepper in the oven then sprouts. Never just plain, sometimes pan friend with pancetta other times as a bake. They are a bit boring on their own.
Carishina · 20/12/2021 00:45

Sprouts, Parmesan baked parsnips and red cabbage.

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 20/12/2021 00:46

Carrots, peas and sweetcorn

Watapalava · 20/12/2021 00:47

Sprouts
Carrot/swede
Parsnips

LittleRoundRobin · 20/12/2021 00:49

@Watapalava

Sprouts Carrot/swede Parsnips
That's 4.
OnAWinterMorningFarAway · 20/12/2021 00:50

Ready made root mash, from the salad aisle (carrot, swede & spud)
Frozen green beans
Frozen peas

I'm not spending Christmas Day in the kitchen prepping and cooking bloody vegetables.

immersivereader · 20/12/2021 00:54

In addition to roast spuds :

Carrots
Parnsips
Sprouts, for my sins

caringcarer · 20/12/2021 01:05

Roast potatoes
Petit Pois
Carrots

AlwaysLatte · 20/12/2021 01:12

If I had to pick three it would be roast potatoes, Brussels sprouts and red cabbage. But I'd be missing the maple parsnips and other stuff!

beenthereboughtthetshirt · 20/12/2021 01:17

sprouts, roast parsnips, braised red cabbage

(although i am interested in the pp cheesy leeks Xmas Smile)

MrsClatterbuck · 20/12/2021 01:33
