To not wait for PCR Result?

DS and I both had colds this week and because he was coughing and had a slight temp (37.9) we both needed PCR’s. For clarity though, we are very confident the tests will be negative, we’ve both had stuffy noses and sore throats so it’s just a cold.

We went to a drive through test centre at 9am on Thursday, it’s now Sunday and we still don’t have our results. It’s been a nightmare because we had lovely Christmassy plans this weekend we’ve had to miss and we’re all gutted.

Firstly, is there somewhere we can contact to check the status of our tests?

Secondly, the dog desperately needs a walk. WIBU to take the dog out tonight at midnight when no one else will be up in the field?

Yes, the responsible and intelligent people ARE lying about it to get a test.

Why the need to lie? Government advice is that you can have a test if not symptomatic.

Timeisavirtue · 19/12/2021 14:19

@Lividlavidacoco

I’ve had my re-test. I was able to book one immediately 20 mins from home so that was a good thing.

I’m annoyed about missing the event today, but instead we’re having a pj day, watching Christmas films and I’m doing test- triple cooked roast potatoes we’ll scarf in a bit.

It’s not terrible, we’ll be out of isolation in time for Christmas either way. I just keep having to remind myself that this would be a lot worse for a lot of people. We’re fine.

They told me dd s test was lost then 12 hours later I got the result.
Blondeshavemorefun · 19/12/2021 14:27

Sorry they lost test

Great you had another one. Maybe this one will be back within 24hrs

Lividlavidacoco · 19/12/2021 14:28

I just got a result through - no idea if it’s from the first or second test but I’m negative Grin

Is your DS negative too?

Thevoiceofreason2021 · 19/12/2021 14:33

Can you not just do a LFT while you wait?

Your second one was 2/3 hours ago wasn't it? Must be the first one.
whatkatydid2013 · 19/12/2021 14:52

My OH went for a test at 1:30pm last weekend and results came back before 5. Think it depends where you get tested relative to where they are processing but it can be really fast

HumunaHey · 19/12/2021 14:58

@Lividlavidacoco

Spoken to 119, the person I spoke to earlier was wrong, they don’t have my test results and my test is ‘lost’.

Our best bet is to do another test today, otherwise it’s to wait for the investigation team to contact me in 72 hours. Either way, we need to continue to isolate until 24th which will be 10 days after our symptoms began, unless the new test comes back negative before then.

Bollocks to covid and all who sail in her Wine

FYI, you don't just isolate 10 days from symptoms. You're meant to isolate 10 days from a positive test but also isolate whilst awaiting results.
girlmom21 · 19/12/2021 15:08

That's not true @HumunaHey. When you get a PCR they ask the date of the first symptom because you isolate from then.

Moolia · 19/12/2021 15:18

If you have symptoms it's 10 days from symptoms. If you don't, it's 10 days from a positive test.

123feraverto · 19/12/2021 15:19

I'm double jabbed

Did a PCR 30th Nov because I had cold symptoms and 3 year old had a cough
Both negative

3 year old sent home from nursery Tuesday with a 39 temp , I still have cold symptoms
PCR the Wednesday AM
He's negative but I'm positive

You never know
We were sure they'd both be negative

It should tell you the date of test at top of email or text
Glassery · 19/12/2021 17:03

@Moolia

If you have symptoms it's 10 days from symptoms. If you don't, it's 10 days from a positive test.
Not quite - it's ten full days of isolation from the day AFTER the symptoms or the positive test.
HumunaHey · 19/12/2021 17:19

@girlmom21

That's not true *@HumunaHey*. When you get a PCR they ask the date of the first symptom because you isolate from then.
I booked a PCR test and the man on the line said it's 10 days from a positive but you should isolate as soon as you notice symptoms.

The NHS website also seems to state (albeit in not very clear wording) that you isolate as soon as you notice symptoms, then 10 days from a positive test.

Anyway, I'm not going to argue about it. It's just what I was told (to my dismay) and what I read. Not so bothered now as result was negative. It wouldn't make much sense to start from onset of symptoms to me as that's not clear cut. People would conveniently imagine they had symptoms a day or two earlier than they had. All kind of ailments could be classed as symptoms too.

Moolia · 19/12/2021 17:19

Yes you're right I was just pointing out the starting point in each case.

Moolia · 19/12/2021 17:21

@HumunaHey yes so in each case the day of symptoms starting or day of test if you have no symptoms is day zero. Then you isolate for the next 10 days.

dementedpixie · 19/12/2021 17:26

It's 10 days from the day of the test if you had no symptoms. Otherwise its 10 days from the day of symptoms starting.

dementedpixie · 19/12/2021 17:27

And that's exactly what the screenshots say; 10 days from symptoms or 10 days from the test if no symptoms

girlmom21 · 19/12/2021 17:37

@HumunaHey your screenshot confirms what I said... 10 days from the symptoms starting Hmm

HumunaHey · 19/12/2021 17:39

@dementedpixie

'If you test positive, your self-isolation period includes the day your symptoms started (or the day you had the test, if you do not have symptoms) and the next 10 full days.

It says 'and the next 10 FULL days'. That to me means the 10 days aren't inclusive of onset of symptoms.

girlmom21 · 19/12/2021 17:41

@HumunaHey read it without the brackets because they're talking about if you don't have symptoms.

If you test positive, your self-isolation period includes the day your symptoms started and the next 10 full days.

So if your symptoms start today, you start isolating today and do so for the next 10 days, unless you get a negative PCR in the meantime.

mnp321 · 19/12/2021 17:42

@girlmom21

That's not true *@HumunaHey*. When you get a PCR they ask the date of the first symptom because you isolate from then.
This is correct. T&T insisted on "backdating" my son's isolation period start date to 5 days prior to his positive lateral flow (and 6 days before his positive PCR) as he'd had a sore throat for a week or so. Despite having had daily negative LFTs during those 5 days.
dementedpixie · 19/12/2021 17:43

You are reading it wrongly. The brackets are a separate sentence. If you ignore the brackets as all they are telling you is that you count form the test date if no symptoms then the sentence is:

If you test positive, your self-isolation period includes the day your symptoms started (or the day you had the test, if you do not have symptoms)andthe next 10 full days.
