To not wait for PCR Result?

DS and I both had colds this week and because he was coughing and had a slight temp (37.9) we both needed PCR’s. For clarity though, we are very confident the tests will be negative, we’ve both had stuffy noses and sore throats so it’s just a cold.

We went to a drive through test centre at 9am on Thursday, it’s now Sunday and we still don’t have our results. It’s been a nightmare because we had lovely Christmassy plans this weekend we’ve had to miss and we’re all gutted.

Firstly, is there somewhere we can contact to check the status of our tests?

Secondly, the dog desperately needs a walk. WIBU to take the dog out tonight at midnight when no one else will be up in the field?

@Lividlavidacoco

I just got a result through - no idea if it’s from the first or second test but I’m negative Grin
Was it for you or your son?
Lividlavidacoco · 19/12/2021 17:58

It was my test, DS’s has just now come through, he’s also negative Grin

Top of the text says test date 16th so it must have been the first one Confused

Why is that confusing? You didn't seriously think it could be the one you only had done a few hours ago, do you?

How strange that both you and your son's went missing. At least they've shown up now.

I’ve had one before that’s come back in 5 hours... I had the test before lunch and the results came through late afternoon so it’s not impossible; and it’s confusing because they told me it was ‘lost’, they needed to open an investigation and that I needed to do another test only for it to turn up a couple of hours later.

For DS’s they told me it was delayed not lost and we’d get a result today so I didn’t take him for a re-test thankfully. If I’d had to put him through thst twice for no reason I’d have been fuming.

Maybe it was lost, maybe it wasn't but presumably if it was lost it could have been found and processed

There's always going to be things going wrong with such a massive undertaking as processing all the tests every day.

girlmom21 · 19/12/2021 19:12

They were just lazy telling you it was lost. 72 hours seems to be a pretty standard timeframe at the moment.

Julie21255 · 20/12/2021 17:32

Since most of the Government have broken the law regarding Covid, contact and isolation I wouldn't worry too much about taking the dog and yourself for a late night walk. Enjoy the fresh air!

Mummadeze · 20/12/2021 17:35

I currently have Covid for the second time with virtually no symptoms. You just can’t tell. I think walking in a deserted place with masks ready in case anyone passes you is fine too.

Mandyjack · 20/12/2021 17:35

Omicron and delta symptoms are like cold symptoms. You can even be asymptomatic and test positive so you news go wait

Leedsfan247 · 20/12/2021 17:36

Walk the dog whenever it needs it you’re outside so as long as you socially distance from others - no problem

starlight13 · 20/12/2021 17:36

Just go out OP, the world's gone scaremongering crazy. If anyone wants to hide from this cold then THEY can stay indoors and shut themselves away.

buzzkaye · 20/12/2021 17:36

My kids and I have had stuffy nose and caugh runny nose .after 8 days of lft tests .a pcr came back positive

CambsAlways · 20/12/2021 17:50

I’d certainly walk the dog

Dindundundundeeer · 20/12/2021 17:52

I have covid.

Stuffy nose and sore throat for 2 days. That’s it.

Holed up at home going mental!

MyrtlethePurpleTurtle · 20/12/2021 17:56

@Grimbelina

SantasOnHisWay Take a look at my post above yours. I am now ill, might up hospitalised as CV because someone took the same attitude as you.
@SantasOnHisWay doesn’t care
MyrtlethePurpleTurtle · 20/12/2021 18:00
@Grimbelina that's a real shame, but we have done several ltf tests, if they'd been positive we'd have reluctantly booked a pcr but I'm not ruining christmas for a cold. Nearly 2 years of this now, I think we've done enough. I didn't see anyone for months when I was pregnant earlier in the year, I protected myself when I needed to as you can't rely on others unfortunately.
And your posts are sadly a perfect illustration of why we “can’t rely on others”

Same! Stuffy nose and can’t go out until next Tuesday ☹️
MyrtlethePurpleTurtle · 20/12/2021 18:01

Really glad , OP, tbat for once it really was just a cold!!

munchkinman · 20/12/2021 18:20

My daughter had classic cold symptoms and had vivid. I had a stomach bug and has covid. Not that hard to stay in for another day is it?

Indoctro · 20/12/2021 18:20

I would be walking dog if it was me

Tomasinabombadil · 20/12/2021 18:22

@Joystir59

Walk the dog. If I get COVID I will have to walk my dog as he's a difficult rescue who I trust with very few people and I wouldn't want to expose them to risk of infection anyway handing the dog over. The safest option for everyone will be for me to walk him very early and very late.
Same here regarding dog walks. I have a rescue too & even nearly 2 years on from bringing her home she still doesn’t trust other people yet. Fortunately I live in a semi rural area and can walk most times of the day (or night) without meeting another person.
linsey2581 · 20/12/2021 18:22

Hi I work at a covid testing centre (an NHS one not a government run one).
Tests are currently taking 72 hours due to the huge workload, labs are working 24 hours a day. I know that some of your plans are ruined but you have done the correct thing by getting tested and have protected your loved ones. Please be patient and yes you can walk your dog around the block but do not go near anyone

AdoptDontShop · 20/12/2021 18:30

Why are you asking strangers?
Use your common sense.

Stressedmummyof4 · 20/12/2021 18:37

Covid has just went through my house, and myself and my eldest daughter both had extremely stuffy noses, so much so that we had sinus headaches for days. I myself had a sore throat too, none of us (5) had high temps or continuous coughs. it took my 5 days after my positive test to loose my smell and taste. my two younger kids had no symptoms at all.

Sudoku88 · 20/12/2021 18:39

Take the dog for a walk!! Don’t worry about it, who the hell are you going to bump into outside in the middle of nowhere/ field? Honestly you’re being far too over cautious and on top of it you’re double vaccinated so even if you did have it, you wouldn’t be so infectious. But that’s not the point, there is no one you’re going to end up infecting taking a walk in an open field with all that fresh air
