For those of you who still have grandparents alive! How old are you?

Justsotirednow · 15/12/2021 13:11

Or how old were you when they passed?

I was 16 when my granparents from mom’s side died.

And somewhere in my 20’s when from dad’s side passed.
Although we weren’t in touch at all, not sure why.

I don’t know why I ask, I guess I just realised that I wasn’t around older generation much.

My great grandmother died when I was 11 and we used to visit her about once a month. All other great grandparents of mine had died before I was born.

My nan died last year at 90, I was 37.
My grandad (her husband) died when he was 72 and I was 17.

My other nan died when she was 36 and it was about 30 years before I was born.
My other grandad (her husband) died when he was 94 and I was in my late 20s.

My DD met 3 of her great-grandparents too.

I am 38 and I have 3 still alive.
That said, my mother had me when she was 16.

TiredMum86 · 15/01/2023 20:02

2 still alive when I was born, they died when I was 6 and 13. I am now 36. People are living longer generally, my kids have 5 grandparents and 2 greats.

FeedMeTiramisu · 15/01/2023 21:12

Maternal Grandma in late 80s.

Im 46.

Jazzy21 · 15/01/2023 21:16

I had 3 of my grandparents at my wedding when I was 28, which many friends told me afterwards was pretty amazing to them, having lost most if not all of their grandparents by that age.

I’m 38 now and both my grandmothers are still alive. One sadly has Alzheimer’s (88) but the other (93) is still going strong both mentally and physically.

Sadly my DC only have one grandma on one side and one grandad on the other side, which makes me feel like they’re missing out on so much. Well, we all are.

JustDanceAddict · 15/01/2023 21:18

All my GPs died by the time I was 14.
dh’s grandma lived until he was 33, she was in her late 90s.
I know someone in their late 40s with a living GP.

MilkyYay · 15/01/2023 21:22

My last grandparent died when i was 33, she lived very long though, 98. One had died at about 90 when I was 31. Another died when i was about 26, i think at about age 81.

One had died much earlier, prematurely, a good 15 or so years before i was born.

rainbowandglitter · 15/01/2023 21:23

I'm 64, my mum is 87 and my grandma is 108. All three of us still well and healthy.

Grandma has 4 great great grandchildren.

How wonderful!

Rolypolyfishheads · 15/01/2023 21:33

I'm 45 and still have both my Grandmother's. My Dad's Mom will be 100 in May.

EarlofShrewsbury · 15/01/2023 21:35

My dad was my grandparents 11th child and they were already in their 40s when he was born, they died when I was 13.

My mum's mother died when I was 30.

I'm 39 now and my last remaining grandparent, my mum's father, is 84.

Whatslovegottodowithit88 · 15/01/2023 21:36

My mother's, Mother & Father are both still alive. In their mid 80s and I'm 33.

My father's Mother died when he was only 18, so I sadly didn't get to meet her. He's Father died when I was 20. I knew him best.

raffegiraffe · 15/01/2023 21:37

Miffycat14 · 15/01/2023 21:40

I'm 50 and I have a grandmother. I know I'm very lucky. She is fantastic, looks much younger than her 95 years and I love hearing her stories about the past.

newtb · 15/01/2023 21:41

2 died before I was born, 1 when I was 10 days old, and the last 3 months before I was 3. I still remember him.

MustBeThursday · 15/01/2023 21:41

I'm 34 with one grandparent (dad's mom) still alive - she's 81.

All 4 grandparents plus 3 great grandparents were alive when I was born. My great grandparents died relatively close together when I was 6-7, my 3 late grandparents died when I was 7, 17 and 21
