For those of you who still have grandparents alive! How old are you?

Justsotirednow · 15/12/2021 13:11

Or how old were you when they passed?

I was 16 when my granparents from mom’s side died.

And somewhere in my 20’s when from dad’s side passed.
Although we weren’t in touch at all, not sure why.

I don’t know why I ask, I guess I just realised that I wasn’t around older generation much.

I'm 38, still have 3 grandparents and a great grandma.

Saoirse82 · 16/12/2021 04:13

My paternal grandfather died before I was born. My maternal grandad when I was 3. Paternal grandmother at 13 and maternal grandmother at 26. I was really close with my grandmothers, I wish I'd appreciated them that bit more at the time.
Husbands paternal grandparents are still alive, they are both 71. Dh is 34, his parents had him young. He's only in recent years lost his 2 great grandmother's and his great grandfather.

knittingaddict · 16/12/2021 04:15

My parents are still alive, so my adult children, who are in their early 30's, have grandparents. Probably not for too much longer though.

Grumpasaurus · 16/12/2021 04:17

I am 38, and both of my grandmas are still alive (88 and 89 I believe).

I just lost one grandfather at the age of 92 about three weeks ago.

I load another grandfather at the age of 88, when I was 30.

So I have been really lucky!

Chocaholic9 · 16/12/2021 04:53

I'm in my late thirties and have a grandmother alive. She's almost 90.

DailyMailHater · 16/12/2021 04:59

I am 37
On dads side
Grandfather - passed when dad was a teenager
Grandmother - passed when I was 19
Mothers side
Grandmother - passed when I was 11
Grandfather - passed when I was 20

My DH is 42 and his maternal grandmother is still alive at 93

jellybe · 16/12/2021 05:01

I'm 36 and have two grandparents left both 93. My other grand parents one died at 101 when I was 34 and the other at 94 when I was 25.

IncorrigibleTitmouse · 16/12/2021 05:02

I'm 38 and I still have two. They were only 18 and 19 when they had my Mum though. I had my maternal great grandmother till I was 24!

My father's parents both died when I was 17.

Wallywobbles · 16/12/2021 05:07

My oldest is 17 with a ggm of 97 on her dads side. Although her only son their gf died at 67.

I'm the youngest of a lot and I was 27 or 28 when she died. I still miss her. She was a riot.

Witchcraftandhokum · 16/12/2021 05:16

I'm 47, my remaining gp is 101.

NotTheOriginalFeargalSharkey · 16/12/2021 09:39

I am 47. I still have my mums parents. They are mid 80s.
My dad's dad died when my dad was a young kid. His mum died when I was 2.
My great gran died when I was about 30. She was 102.

lawandgin · 16/12/2021 10:07

I'm 33 and have 1 GP left who is mid 80s, but unwell with dementia. The others died when I was 33, 16 and 2. The youngest of them was only 49.

etherealbeauty · 17/12/2021 03:05
  1. All four grandparents around 73 - 77
DumplingsAndStew · 18/12/2021 01:35

I'm 38 and still have my paternal grandparents. They are both sides of 90.

I lost my maternal grandparents at 31, within a few weeks of each other which was really hard.

Littlelottielulu · 18/12/2021 01:48

48, mam's 64 and grandma is 109? Do we win?

So very lucky x

MintyCedric · 18/12/2021 01:56

@hazelnutlatte

I'm 40, never knew my grandparents - both grandfathers died before I was born (dad's dad died when he was a small child) and both grandmothers died when I was very small so I have no memories of any of them.
Similar position here.

Both parents lost their dads as children.

My nans died within a year of one another when I was 6/7. They were 79 and 74 and died of a stroke and cancer respectively.

I lost my dad earlier this year at 83, mum is 82.

I do wonder if not having that experience/bond with grandparents growing up has affected my ability to deal with my parents as they've aged tbh.

KylieKoKo · 18/12/2021 03:25

I'm very lucky. At 38 i have a 90 year old granny. I had all 4 until I was 26.

Ophanim · 18/12/2021 05:26
  1. Just my grandfather left.
Monday55 · 18/12/2021 10:12

I don't have any grandparents but I have a great-grand mother. I'm early 30s.

stairway · 18/12/2021 11:43

I think you win littlelottielulu. So your Grannie was born at the beginning of WW1? What incredible memories she must have.

SirVixofVixHall · 18/12/2021 12:11

Wow ! So your Mum had you at 16 but her mother had her at 45 ?
Ayda32 · 15/01/2023 19:07

I'm 32 and still have both my nana and Grandad, late 70s.
But I did lose my dad last year 68 and my mum in 2018 53

FilthyforFirth · 15/01/2023 19:11

I'm 37. One died in 2018 when he was late 80s. But I didnt really know him.

The other 3 are still alive and strangely all the same age, 89. One in poor health, the other two seem ok. Will be very strange/sad for me when they go as they have always been here. Which I appreciate is very lucky.

PurpleFlower1983 · 15/01/2023 19:12

I‘m 40 this year and my lovely Nan is 92.

mrssunshinexxx · 15/01/2023 19:52
