The Christmas dinner or the steak, chips and onion rings. Straight of the bat, which is more appealing?

To me it’s the steak..wondering whether to break with tradition and have this on Christmas Day, first time in my 44 years on earth. Don’t know why that feels so weird fo do! Don’t even like Christmas dinner that much, do you?

I could even go Mexican or curry 😋 all nicer than the Christmas meal

One year DH and I had steak on Christmas day as it was just the two of us, then I did the whole Christmas dinner on Boxing day when we had friends round.

I don't think it matters, have what you enjoy. I adore a roast dinner though and we don't often bother with them so I do like the full turkey dinner on Christmas day.

Longingforatikihut · 15/12/2021 10:48

Between those options I opt for Xmas dinner. I'm not a fan of steak. This is my first year having a traditional Xmas dinner in over a decade though. Often just have sandwiches and snacks as I am alone.

VikingOnTheFridge · 15/12/2021 10:50

I want both now...

emmathedilemma · 15/12/2021 10:50

As much as I love steak & chips, a Xmas roast dinner trumps it every time!

RavenclawsRoar · 15/12/2021 10:53

Christmas Dinner with all the trimmings for me! Can't beat it - I'm genuinely looking forward to mine on the day. Steak is nice but not a favourite of mine and chips are the most inferior form of potato imo.

BettyfromBristol · 15/12/2021 10:55

I've never eaten a traditional Christmas lunch in the best part of six decades. The world is still turning....

TheCreamCaker · 15/12/2021 10:57

I'll be having home-made beef Rogan Josh (not a Patak's sauce anywhere)with home-made naans, samosas and bhajis, with my husband and one son, on Christmas Day.

Boxing Day will be beef, all the usual accompaniments, with 4 of us adults and 2 kids.

Theblacksheepandme · 15/12/2021 10:57

I don't like turkey at all and I never have turkey for Christmas. Last year I did a whole Indian buffet style meal. Indian rub leg of lamb, Bombay aloo, naan bread, pilau rice and chutneys etc. I love steak but we have it once a week for our dinner with a really nice blue cheese sauce. Neither of the 2 pictures look appetising to me though.

donkeymcdonkface · 15/12/2021 10:57

No one likes turkey in this house - we never have it, normally have gammon. But this year I asked family what was their fav meal, unanimous agreement in steak and chips so steak and chips it is!

Llioed · 15/12/2021 10:58

I don’t understand the posters who say turkey is dry and crap…. They’re clearly not cooking the turkey correctly! The way I cook the turkey makes it delicious and moist - I do a fab Christmas dinner, so that would be my choice over a steak 😀
Enjoy your Christmas dinner however you want to 🥩 🦃😄

donkeymcdonkface · 15/12/2021 10:59

Well steak and chips and pigs in blankets .........

Sam801 · 15/12/2021 11:00

I prepare dishes with vegetables and of course steak!

Oldraver · 15/12/2021 11:00

We have stuffed duck and filet of beef

We get enough so we can cut slices for Boxing Day and lightly fry them

So yea effectively steak . Can't stand turkey

cookiemonster2468 · 15/12/2021 11:03

I love a steak but on Christmas day I would go for the roast every time.

Elphame · 15/12/2021 11:17

Eat what you want.

If you like steak more than turkey then have steak! Turkey is a pretty recent tradition anyway.

AlmostAJillSandwich · 15/12/2021 11:19

Ooooh, steak please!
I don't really like turkey, could sub with chicken but honestly i've never really been big on roast dinners. I enjoy them occasionally, but i have to be in the mood, which happens randomly, not always on a christmas day :P

thatsallineed · 15/12/2021 11:20

I'm going to say a really good steak. I'be not had one for two years and I can cook a roast dinner but I'm crap at cooking steaks properly.

Megan2018 · 15/12/2021 11:22

I love a good steak, really rare. But I also adore Christmas dinner so I’d never choose steak on Christmas day. We have it on New Years eve usually.

Shade17 · 15/12/2021 11:23

It really depends on the steak TBH, a lovely piece of rare fillet from Tom Hixon or an overcooked piece of rump from the local supermarket? How about a beef wellington for Xmas day? I’ve done this before and it has the feeling of something special for Xmas.

irregularegular · 15/12/2021 11:25

Both kind of equal.

But I'd 100% go for the traditional Christmas lunch every time. I've replaced the turkey with a slow cooked pork before, or a ham, but essentially kept all the sides the same. I think Christmas is all about traditions and memories and echoes of the past. And if you drop those then you lose something. Unless the memories and echoes are negative, in which case you might want a chance to build something new. And if that requires steak or sushi then go for it!

AngelonTopoftheTree · 15/12/2021 11:25

I've rarely had turkey for Christmas day, usually have a beautifully rare juicy steak 😋
But also have had duck, goose, pheasant...
Do have all the trimmings though 😊

MorningStarling · 15/12/2021 11:25

Xmas dinner because a roast is the king of meals, and Xmas dinner the king of roasts.

Steak and chips is just a run of the mill regular meal. Pleasant enough but nothing special. The steak dinner is more expensive and less healthy, if those things are of concern, whereas a Christmas dinner has plenty of vegetables and can be done much more cheaply.

Plumjamorcrumblyham · 15/12/2021 11:25

Hand on heart, I LOVE Christmas dinner. It’s not just the about the Turkey, it’s all the trimmings and sauces that make it for me. So I would chose the Turkey dinner every single time.

However when I was younger, sometimes my family ordered T bone steaks from the butcher for Xmas day. They took up the whole plate! We had them gorgeous potatoes and veggies and it was the most amazing dinner.

ElftonWednesday · 15/12/2021 11:25

Neither appeal, I don't eat meat.

Loubilou09 · 15/12/2021 11:28

Steak...urrgghhhhh

The turkey dinner looks absolutely delicious!
