The Christmas dinner or the steak, chips and onion rings. Straight of the bat, which is more appealing?

To me it’s the steak..wondering whether to break with tradition and have this on Christmas Day, first time in my 44 years on earth. Don’t know why that feels so weird fo do! Don’t even like Christmas dinner that much, do you?

I could even go Mexican or curry 😋 all nicer than the Christmas meal

Go meat free and stop abusing animals for their flesh?

Itonlytakesonetree · 15/12/2021 00:27

Neither as am vegetarian. Just wanted to say, I read your title and Op and it was ever so Gavin and Stacey.

loveablequalities · 15/12/2021 00:28

Steak 100%

You can eat turkey anytime. It's not special or exciting or even particularly tasty.

Shouldigonontraditional · 15/12/2021 00:36

@Itonlytakesonetree What do you mean?

Shouldigonontraditional · 15/12/2021 00:37

Apologies to the vegetarians 😞
We actually don’t eat meat very often but will at Christmas

None of them, they look awful.

Shouldigonontraditional · 15/12/2021 00:38

@Davros What’s up with it 🤷🏻‍♀️

I love having a variety of food for dinner, I'm always adding extras to my plate - mostly vegetables.

HeddaGarbled · 15/12/2021 00:41

The steak meal looks dry in comparison

Yeah. That looks like a pub-style, poor quality, badly cooked steak. Fake grill lines, chips & onion rings, tiny amount of veg, no sauce. Sort of thing you’d get at a Brewers Fayre. They’re loaded off the lorry with those fake grill lines, then warmed up in the pub kitchen.

I like a nice steak meal. That isn’t one.

Christmas dinner. We eat turkey during the year too. Sainsbury's turkey sausages are lovely - bought 2 packs today. As is Aldi turkey mince 7% fat to make turkey burgers. Had turkey breast steaks cut in to chunks in a stir fry yesterday.

I like turkey Christmas Dinner but had some unexpected bills this year so it's a lot of money this year for us so we are having something else. Anyway our local butchers closed down recently after several decades.

We also like steak but I would have that as a New Year Day meal.

I think you have to enjoy your Christmas meal whatever that is so if you prefer steak and chips or curry or pies or fish n chips then just have it! Xmas Grin

mrsfollowill · 15/12/2021 00:49

Oh have turkey! Love the traditional Christmas dinner. We usually have a steak on New Years day with dauphinoise potatoes. I've never had a dry turkey - you are cooking it wrong if it's dry!

AutumnAnn · 15/12/2021 00:49

Can I have both? They both look amazing

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 15/12/2021 00:50

Generally speaking - the steak

I’m happy with turkey on Christmas Day though!

Shouldigonontraditional · 15/12/2021 00:54

Ok it doesn’t obviously have to be exactly the same as the pics, I agree, that isn’t like the steak I eat-but you get the idea!

The Christmas dinner - but I would swap the turkey for chicken. However, I wouldn't have sprouts either, but we have Christmas in summer so they aren't a Christmas dinner "thing" here.

Immaculatemisconception · 15/12/2021 01:00

I like steak and chips but I love a Christmas roast dinner.

Unreasonabubble · 15/12/2021 01:02

How many of you are involved?

itsutterlyshit · 15/12/2021 01:02

Has to be a traditional Christmas dinner. It's not even about the turkey it's all the sides and extras.
Christmas dinner is my favourite thing about the whole festive period. I'd be devastated if we had anything else.

TuftyMarmoset · 15/12/2021 01:07

Nut roast 😋

Italiangreyhound · 15/12/2021 01:10

Turkey

Saoirse82 · 15/12/2021 01:10

Turkey, its my fav meal of the year!

me4real · 15/12/2021 01:26

I love steak, but Xmas dinner is nice for the special occasion/change.

Furries · 15/12/2021 01:30

I’d have to go with the roast for Christmas Day. Although I do a chicken crown rather than a turkey (plus another crown cooked in the afternoon which gets carved and used for multiple sandwiches etc over the coming days). And missing out on Yorkshires, stuffing, Brussels, roasties etc (and lovely thick gravy) would not feel like Christmas.

I don’t eat much red meat - not necessarily for ethical reasons, I just prefer chicken and fish/shellfish - but if I was trying to decide then I’d probably go for traditional roast on Christmas Day and then on New Years Eve or New Years Day (depending on plans) I’d go for a good piece of fillet steak, portobello mushrooms with rosemary sprinkled on them done on a griddle, sautéed potatoes and peas.

AiryFairyLights · 15/12/2021 01:32

Christmas dinner for me - I love it - hubby likes beef though so I cook Turkey, beef and ham - please everyone then 😂

JaceLancs · 15/12/2021 01:35

I would generally go for the roast on Xmas day
However I’m a fab cook and turkey is not necessarily on the menu
This year we are having chicken, beef and duck as the main meat choices
