Horse riders should pick up their poo!!

It’s surely a potential hazard leaving horse manure on the road!
Tractors are required to clean up excess mud they leave on the road, dog poo is collected by their owners.
So why can’t horse riders be required to show common decency if they are to use the road.
Apparently an outdated law from when horses were the main mode of transport allows this and prevents action being taken.
With the number of accidents never mind inconveniences caused by this negligence surely this should be amended?

We used to go out and put it on the roses when only a few horses went past every day but I’m talking at least 20 horses going by every day. I have a job - I can’t spend all day doffing my cap and picking up other people’s poo because the people making a living from it can’t be arsed to respect their local community.

Capricopia · 13/12/2021 22:07

Hope your horse gets spooked by the next cyclist you see and throws you off Smile

Alright you absolute psycho, no need to leave satan in fear of his job.

PinkPrettyPearls · 13/12/2021 22:08

Horse riders could cary a snow shovel and bin bag, like dog walkers do a scoop and bags.

What’s the difference ?

It will happen, eventually.

No one picked up dog poop years ago.

ArrrMeHearties · 13/12/2021 22:08

Just carry a few black bags and a shovel for the horse poo to be scooped and you will be fine 🐎💩😂

HesterShaw1 · 13/12/2021 22:08

I can't remember hearing about the carnage unleashed so far by horse poo. Have I missed something?

toconclude · 13/12/2021 22:08

@theOccupier

Comments like that ( vile thing to say btw, you honestly wish someone would be thrown from a height and possibly break their neck) are why people think cyclists have an entitlement problem.

Grapesoda7 · 13/12/2021 22:08

I get horse poo on the pavement by me and that's in a city!

Kendodd · 13/12/2021 22:09

I have seen piles of shit in the road for days with cars driving though it and causing shit spray. I've also seen young children running straight through it.
Horse rider couldn't care less though.
As evidenced by this thread.

BoudecaBains · 13/12/2021 22:09

This isn’t new. Ppl have been moaning about horse shit on the roads of London since the Romans. You can see boot scrapers outside older houses. Horse piss is worse of course which is why the had water carts cleaning the streets. Personally I’d like to see more horses but then I have two of my own !.

Mumsnut · 13/12/2021 22:09

My grandfather also raced to pick up horse poo for his roses. The whole road maintained constant vigilance and it was a race to get there first , so my Mum tells me. This would be in the forties and fifties

Flowers500 · 13/12/2021 22:09

Totally agree that horse riders should clean up their shit after them. Next time I see someone squat down in the middle of the road and pull their jodhpurs around their knees, I'll be sure to let them know!

DingADingADingDong · 13/12/2021 22:09

Don't be silly OP how are we supposed to lob a massive bag of horses poo in to branches and trees, it would be much too heavy Grin

Iamclearlyamug · 13/12/2021 22:10

This is made for you OP 🙄🙄 a tongue-in-cheek but nevertheless factual TikTok video on just how ridiculous the idea is

Pyracanth · 13/12/2021 22:10

Op all your links are either rants from other people or an article about rare possibility of toxicity of dogs eat a lot of horse manure. There is not one article of an actual accident caused by horse manure. YABU

🤣

You can see which posters have never been within twenty yards of a horse.

underneaththeash · 13/12/2021 22:11

I agree, it’s grim. I’m sick of piles of shot that the dog eats and the kids bike through.
If they can’t/won’t pick it up, maybe they shouldn’t be on the road.

FabriqueBelgique · 13/12/2021 22:12

I’ve often wondered the same, OP. Any other creatures shit is disgusting apparently but horse manure is a wonderous plant-based soy-free, vegan substance we should all be grateful for?!

Well the article the OP posted states you have an untrained dog if it's eating horse poo so maybe be a better owner.
As for your children riding through it have you tried telling them not to?

Snugglepumpkin · 13/12/2021 22:14

Prove to me that every single cat owner is following their nasty pet around the neighbourhood picking up all the cat shit they let their animals deposit in peoples back gardens.

Then maybe I'll think it might be nice if horse manure (a far more useful & valuable product than cat shit) was scooped off the streets.

Never had an issue with horse owners letting their horses into my garden to drop off a load of manure, but actually I suspect my garden would be really happy if that happened as I normally have to buy it.

Have to say having lived in areas littered with horse owners who regularly rode around including the local hunts, I never ever had an issue with horse poo so they don't leave that much lying around around.

Where are you having this massive problem?

It's the droppings of animals that eat meat that seem to be an issue & even idiots who think they have a vegan cat are wrong if they ever let the animal out of the house - they don't go hunting carrots in the night.

RestingMurderousFace · 13/12/2021 22:15

Hahah,a MN at it's very best/worst. Xmas Grin

Newgirls · 13/12/2021 22:18

On the shared paths near us, near stables, it would be easy for the stables people to go and collect now and then. The horses tend to walk on the same paths/lanes/bridalways rather than out in the rural countryside

Anewchicken · 13/12/2021 22:18

I imagine a future where horse riders actually do pick up their horses poo only to leave in hanging in trees like some dog owners do. Great big multi coloured bin bags of the stuff.

maconandmacorons · 13/12/2021 22:19

Horses are herbivores, it's not in the same league and cat/dog shit.

I'm so glad none of my neighbours seem to mind it, would be a bit bizarre riding out with a shit shovel...
