Horse riders should pick up their poo!!

It’s surely a potential hazard leaving horse manure on the road!
Tractors are required to clean up excess mud they leave on the road, dog poo is collected by their owners.
So why can’t horse riders be required to show common decency if they are to use the road.
Apparently an outdated law from when horses were the main mode of transport allows this and prevents action being taken.
With the number of accidents never mind inconveniences caused by this negligence surely this should be amended?

Grin

My horse would kick me in the face if I tried to attach a bag to his arse 😂

I live in the country, my horse shits at the side of the road when and where he wants. I have zero control over it.

Hopefully a few cyclists have skidded on it 😈

AutumnLeaves22 · 13/12/2021 21:23

I have never in all of my years seen a tractor driver stop the tractor and clean up the mud that has been left behind.

Have I been oblivious to this my whole life?!

black2black · 13/12/2021 21:24

I’ve been in countries where horses have a bag round their bum that the poo drops into. I’d much prefer that than having to walk round it when on walks.

Theyellowflamingo · 13/12/2021 21:24

What accidents? Link to one report of a serious accident caused by horse poo.

Dog poo spreads disease and is usually not in the road, horse poo is just recycled grass and isn’t often where children play or walk.

Tractor mud spread across the carriageway by massive wheels can enough to make roads slippy (not that I’ve ever seen it cleaned up) - unless an entire herd of incontinent shire horses was going over the same stretch of road for hours a day, there’s not enough poo to be a traffic hazard. Not comparable.

@BakedTattie hate cyclists, rude, inconsiderate horse scaring twats 🤣

Sarahlou63 · 13/12/2021 21:24

I generally deposit my poo in a toilet. Bit worried now that there's some arcane law that I should pick it up. With a sieve or by hand?? Confused

SallyLovesCheese · 13/12/2021 21:25

I have never heard of an accident due to horse manure!!

Also, where would you expect the rider to carry the shovel and bucket, either empty or full? Dog poo tends to be small and people are walking so easy to pick up. Can you imagine a horse rider carrying a shovel and bucket, riding along constantly checking behind them to see if their house has pooed and then having to stop and find somewhere to tie the horse while they pick it up, then carrying the full bucket back to the farm?!

This HAS to be a wind up!!

HipposHaveNipples · 13/12/2021 21:25

I'm sure there would be far more accidents if riders had to get off, clear up poo, somehow attach it to their horse and then remount. All in the middle of the road.

Theyellowflamingo · 13/12/2021 21:25

Tell you what though, I’d sign up to a rule that says owners have to pick up cat poo!

Have you actually had an accident due to horse poo on the road or is this the non thread it appears to be?

Dog poo is a danger to human health.
Horse poo is just digested grass and hay - it's not harmful in anyway, which is why it doesn't need to be picked up by law.

YABU.

RedRobin100 · 13/12/2021 21:26

Horse poo is basically lumps of dead grass.

Think we have bigger problems..

Best ‘I don’t ride a horse’ advert

Come on op, what’s up? In law trouble at Christmas?

A dollop of horse poo is not the same as slippery mud all across the road though is it.

Yes, yes, yes - where do I sign??
Annotherchange · 13/12/2021 21:28

You can offload without diverting to horse poo. Just tell them they can’t come.

FatFredsFriedEgg · 13/12/2021 21:29

Steptoe & Son used to carry a shovel and bucket on the cart to clean up after old Hercules so I wonder if that was actually a thing when horse power was still more common.

It's problematic if you're on a motorbike and encounter an unexpected deposit. Not good for grip. As I found out once on Douglas promenade whilst I was on the Isle of Man for the TT.

Other than that, it doesn't bother me.

HeadPain · 13/12/2021 21:31

It's not a health hazard to humans, unlike dog poo. Are you a cyclist who has had an unfortunate accident? How would a rider actually pick up after their horse? Carry a bucket and shovel whilst riding? Leave the horse standing there in the road whilst shovelling it up? Carrying shovel and I'm sure heavy bucket full of manure whilst riding horse? Yeh, don't think that's possible, practical or safe. They wouldn't be in full control of their horse. Plus you'd have been depriving my granny of manure for her garden, every time she'd see a horse go by she'd go out with her shovel and bucket.

gamerchick · 13/12/2021 21:31

Whenever I see horse shit I wish I had a bag and a shovel. Good for the garden that stuff.
