Horse riders should pick up their poo!!

It’s surely a potential hazard leaving horse manure on the road!
Tractors are required to clean up excess mud they leave on the road, dog poo is collected by their owners.
So why can’t horse riders be required to show common decency if they are to use the road.
Apparently an outdated law from when horses were the main mode of transport allows this and prevents action being taken.
With the number of accidents never mind inconveniences caused by this negligence surely this should be amended?

To be fair, the stables round here send out kids with wheelbarrows to scoop it up at the end of the day on the route the horses take from the stables to the field. Never known any accidents but it can get sprayed over the parked cars as people drive through it.

If you're having an accident in a car caused by horse poo, please stop driving. It's not the horse poo, it's you that's a shite driver.

Motorcyclists should be looking out for it, like they should be looking out for potholes, massive puddles etc. Same for cyclists.

What about the accidents caused by cars? Shouldn’t they be off the road before pooping horses if we are going in order of “most likely to cause an accident”?

I live in the country, my horse shits at the side of the road when and where he wants. I have zero control over it.

Or the absolute holy grail of getting the fucking wheelbarrow tucked under the tail at the very moment of delivery???? Utter, utter bliss!!

How would you suggest people walk down a narrow road with no pavement? I think the people running the business should come out with a wheelbarrow every now and then and pick up the poo.

I live in the country with a lot of people riding. If there is any horse poo deposited, people run out out of their houses immediately with a shovel to get it to put on their roses.

I would love to see your stats on horse poo related accidents.....

I agree OP. And I live in the country. Of course it won't happen because posh people have horses and feel they have a God given right to leave shit where ever they want, doesn't matter if peasants are troubled by it.
None of the difficulties raised in collecting the poo are insurmountable, they can do it if they want, they just don't want to.

Genuinely when has horse poo ever caused an accident?

I can guarantee there would be a lot more accidents if horse riders had to dismount, scoop up a poo (using what?!) while holding their horses, re-mount and then ride home with a poo bag the size of an IKEA tote.

It's a good thing I've trained my dog to 'leave it' on command so she doesn't touch anything she's not meant to. Like any responsible owner who doesn't want their dog to eat shit/rat bait/fish hooks/rotting carcasses etc.

I wouldn’t worry about it OP. One of the links you posted advised that one of the problems with horse poop is that it contains ivermectin. Just let some of the Covid conspiracy types know and they’ll be licking the roads clean before you know it.

Never seen that before.
I have seen piles of shit in the road for days with cars driving though it and causing shit spray. I've also seen young children running straight through it.
Horse rider couldn't care less though.

It's ok, said cyclist is more likely to hit tram lines or a pothole, go flying off their bike and break something before the horse spooks at a cyclist.

Step over it? It's a few chunks of nuggets spread out as the horse walks down the path. It's not usually in an actual mound that is unpassable.
