Horse riders should pick up their poo!!

It’s surely a potential hazard leaving horse manure on the road!
Tractors are required to clean up excess mud they leave on the road, dog poo is collected by their owners.
So why can’t horse riders be required to show common decency if they are to use the road.
Apparently an outdated law from when horses were the main mode of transport allows this and prevents action being taken.
With the number of accidents never mind inconveniences caused by this negligence surely this should be amended?

That complaint is ridiculous. Especially given the revolting toileting behaviour of some cyclists…

As an aside, if the car in that article was close enough when passing that a rider could smack it with a whip, it was way way too close to the horse.

sparepantsandtoothbrush · 13/12/2021 21:33

One of my dogs was very unwell after eating horse manure at the side of the road. Turns out it contained horse worming medication. I still don't think it's possible for it to be picked up though and completely blame my dog for being a vile dick eating it in the first place

gofg · 13/12/2021 21:34

Oh for goodness sake .........

Words fail me.

BotterMon · 13/12/2021 21:35

ODFOD or move back to the City.

gogohm · 13/12/2021 21:36

I wish they would in town, it stinks and gets all over your shoes when you can't see it (because town council turns street lights off at 10pm)

FAQs · 13/12/2021 21:37

The tractor drivers around here put up mud on road warnings until they clean it up. But horses no, and it’s not toxic like dog and cat poo.

AnkleDeep · 13/12/2021 21:37

Hilarious 🤣

Luhou · 13/12/2021 21:38

How do you see this practically working?

Dismount from your horse, cause a hazzard in the road, let go of your horse so that's now running loose while you go pick it up...then do what with it. Somehow manage to carry it back with you?

Sorry, but no.

OverByYer · 13/12/2021 21:38

Oh bless, are you bored dear?

Mossstitch · 13/12/2021 21:38

@FangsForTheMemory as a horserider many years ago in my youth, believe me you can tell when your horse is doing it.......lets just say they are very windy, not that I'm suggesting riders should dismount and pick up the poo......... What exactly are they supposed to do with the horse whilst they do, its not a dog........ Sit and stay neddy 🐎 nor do they generally have recall, although mine would gallop across the fields when it heard my motorbike in anticipation of food🥕🍏

ImmutableSexQueen · 13/12/2021 21:38

Great idea, OP. Then maybe people would keep horses in the fields where they belong, and not on roads, pavements or in other people's gardens.

Do you also think churches shouldn't have bells because it disturbs the neighbours?Hmm

MiladyBerserko · 13/12/2021 21:40

That would be one big bag of shit. And the shovel, would be put where, exactly?

AlbusSeverusMalfoy · 13/12/2021 21:40

You'll need a big pooper scoop and a way to stop the traffic ...

GoodnightGrandma · 13/12/2021 21:40

When I was a kid we had a stables near us. Someone rode on a bike with a bucket and shovel, and picked up any poo. So it’s not a ridiculous idea.

carbon60 · 13/12/2021 21:40

put it on your roses you silly woman

edification · 13/12/2021 21:40

Err, horse poo is black gold. I grow my veg in it. It is not some hazardous substance akin to dog poo.

MegsHollyJolly · 13/12/2021 21:42

Surely there would be a higher risk of accidents if a rider was to dismount and try to retain control of the horse at the roadside whilst picking up the manure. Its grass based and prepared to be corrected but I have never heard of an accident caused by horse poo.

My dog is a prick too and likes eating horse poo. Glad yours was alright.

At least once a year, someone posts this same moan and has to be told that
A) horse poo isn't harmful
B) dismounting, scooping while holding the horse, bagging and remounting are not easy and more dangerous than leaving it.

I would like us to have an FAQ thread of questions like these, just to save time

notacooldad · 13/12/2021 21:43

Ha ha, it's like my village's face book page has come on to MN!
The newcomers like to have a grumble about the horsey ways!!
Always entertaining!🤣

But, but the trolls? Who will think of them?
repottingthescabious · 13/12/2021 21:44

@borntobequiet

I think you meant their horses’ poo.

That's not an article, that's some other strange person moaning.
