Joggers make leggings look classy!

For many years i only saw men wearing them, men who appeared to have either given up or had a work/sport related excuse, or else they wore them to show off food, oil or snot stains. They sagged like giant nappies and made everyone look depressed and a bit waynetta slob. Perhaps I have bad associations as in the early 2000's my friend's abusive older partner wore them, crotch halfway down his legs, like a giant, aggressive, untidy marshmallow.

Then suddenly they were high fashion, have almost overtook jeans and leggings on ladies clothing websites and I just don't get it! I wouldn't judge someone for wearing them (this wouldn't occur to me in real life)) but im amazed at their popularity! I get that they're probably warm, comfy, but jeez they make leggings look high class, at least leggings go with anything and look sleek and comfy if you suit them.

Lots of teen girls wear them with crop tops, it’s a fashion. You’re living in the past op!

fellrunner85 · 11/12/2021 20:12

those following fashion and those who cba in life

Erm no. There's a third category of joggers wearers - sporty people. If you don't believe me, get yourself to a XC meet in parks across the country this weekend. You will see lots of fit people hanging around in joggers and hoodies...

fellrunner85 · 11/12/2021 20:13

There's also a fourth category of joggers wearers- people who just like joggers and find them comfy and practical Grin

ballsdeep · 11/12/2021 20:15

Who gives a shiny shit? For god's sake op stop being judgemental and embrace the comfyness!!!
Wear what you want.

IWantMoreStationery · 11/12/2021 20:16

I wonder if OP has teenagers in her life. Every teenager I know wear them (named usually though). My Son is always in them when he's not at school and always looks great when he is going out.

A fifth category. You will probably spot horse riders wearing them to cover their breeches for a competition. This species can be found in tesco or asda very early in the morning, barely awake looking for a Costa machine, and then heading out to their trailer/lorry. You'll see them again after the competition at night in McDonald's or burger King. Grin
llanfairfechan · 11/12/2021 20:28

I agree with you that they look awful, even worse on men who are trying to convince you they are well endowed. We don't want to know thank you.

BlueFlavour · 11/12/2021 20:30

I really want some velour joggers. Midnight blue.
I love them.

RobertaFirmino · 11/12/2021 20:32

@Aderyn21

Everyone judges other people - if you say you don't, then you're not being honest. Jogger wearers fall into two categories - those following fashion and those who cba in life. They look grim on the majority imo. They are comfortable and warm, which is a huge selling point and on young, beautiful people they can look okay (if the joggers are black and well fitted and spotlessly clean). However if you are not young and beautiful, they look really scruffy. I own one pair and they are definitely for cba days or indoors. I feel like a mess of I wear them out - a bit like if I'd gone to Tesco in my slippers!
This is spot on. They never look more than 'okay' and it takes a lot to make them look 'okay'. This is the case whether they come from Primark or Hush.

Oooh, I like this! A bit like the xc runners wearing them to cover their tiny running shorts (or even briefs if you're really quick). These species overlap on their love of coffee, I suspect.

borntobequiet · 11/12/2021 21:47

I like both leggings and joggers and I live in a Grade 2* listed building. Sometimes I have to wear both together for warmth.

Saoirse82 · 11/12/2021 21:54

YABU as I can't wear leggings as I have terrible legs so they look hideous on me. I'm recovering from a c section so living in joggers.
However YANBU about how mumsnet is, everyone jumps on the OP. And I'm not surprised you won a bet, predictable as fuck that one Wink

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 11/12/2021 21:57

Oh dear, did you see me today?! I never used to wear joggers in public, but I recently got a Hush pair that are so comfortable I can't stop wearing them.

I still struggle to wear leggings outside of a Pilates class though.

BananaPant · 11/12/2021 21:59

@GrandDuchessRomanov

I can't comment because I look like Max Wall in leggings.

😆

ThePoisonousMushroom · 11/12/2021 22:04

This thread has made me want a pair of joggers.

BlueFlavour · 11/12/2021 22:56

You do @ThePoisonousMushroom Grin

Onlinedilema · 12/12/2021 09:30

I 'd never worn them until this year when my dd encouraged me to get a pair. I wear them indoors to relax in or for gardening. I have to wear very smart clothing for work, no jeans/joggers/trainers allowed. When I'm not working I'm not going to sit about in my smart clothes.
I would not go anywhere in them though and do agree that it looks chavvy to go to important meetings or 'dos' in them.
My dd also wore them over her ballet leotard for competitions, they kept her warm when she was waiting.

5128gap · 12/12/2021 09:55

What is this obsession for going around staring at the clothes of people you think are inferior to you and sneering at them? This thread is nothing to do with whether objectively joggers are 'classy', as you deliberately choose to discuss examples where the wearer is unkempt, and would probably not look your idea of classy whatever they wore. Seriously, why do you need to feel more 'classy' than people who don't have perfect bodies, don't choose clothes you think suit them, or have stains on their clothes?

I have to agree with this.

Unless someone is wearing a clown costume or something, I genuinely barely notice what others are wearing. I might see them and think they look nice or something but I don’t remember in anywhere near enough detail to recall it later.

Wear joggers, leggings, jeans, trousers, skirts, whatever! I don’t care. As long as you’re comfortable and happy with your choice, it’s fine by me.

Hilarious how upset some people get about what other people wear. Dear Lord 😂

Borisjohnsonshairbrush · 12/12/2021 10:37

I wear oversized joggers after a good workout after the gym.
It feels fucking fabulous and I don't give two shots about what people think.

friendlycat · 12/12/2021 10:45

Hush joggers are awesome.

You OP are boresome.
