Joggers make leggings look classy!

For many years i only saw men wearing them, men who appeared to have either given up or had a work/sport related excuse, or else they wore them to show off food, oil or snot stains. They sagged like giant nappies and made everyone look depressed and a bit waynetta slob. Perhaps I have bad associations as in the early 2000's my friend's abusive older partner wore them, crotch halfway down his legs, like a giant, aggressive, untidy marshmallow.

Then suddenly they were high fashion, have almost overtook jeans and leggings on ladies clothing websites and I just don't get it! I wouldn't judge someone for wearing them (this wouldn't occur to me in real life)) but im amazed at their popularity! I get that they're probably warm, comfy, but jeez they make leggings look high class, at least leggings go with anything and look sleek and comfy if you suit them.

AIBU??? Grin

I always wanted a juicy backside! Glad dm refused to buy them for me now! 😂

BourbonScreams · 11/12/2021 17:58

This thread is great. BTW I love joggers, wear them all the time when it's chilly. I have sensory issues and most trousers make me claustrophobic and uncomfortable, so love having my nice warm but loose "trackies" as they're known in our house Smile

YourenutsmiLord · 11/12/2021 17:58

I have thin legs and leggings don't look great - I also have long legs and my tracky bottoms (men's good quality fabric) look fine.

IWantMoreStationery · 11/12/2021 18:00

Yes joggers worn in public almost always look awful

Not always. The young can very much look good in them especially.

Kanaloa · 11/12/2021 18:02

I mean you’ve explained it in your own opening post. They’re warm and comfy. I like being warm and comfy. I don’t really worry about looking ‘high class’ as long as I’m clean and tidy. So to me clean and well fitting joggers with a t-shirt or sweater is a fine outfit for school runs and doing my general day to day business.

oviraptor21 · 11/12/2021 18:02

^^
You beat me to it!

oviraptor21 · 11/12/2021 18:03

That's in response to @IWantMoreStationery

StartingGrid · 11/12/2021 18:05

I almost tend to agree OP, however speaking from personal experience as a fat flump currently in adidas joggers I genuinely don't care enough to stop eating or start exercising Grin

daisydoh · 11/12/2021 18:13

@EleonorBronte

oh chill the fuck out and give an opinion on joggers.

This site is just policed by some weird shit these days.

Who cares whether i judge or not, i said i dont in everyday life, but this is a bit of fun on the web, christ.

😂😂😂 you kinda have a point with this post OP!!
daisydoh · 11/12/2021 18:15

@EleonorBronte

Every fucking post gets bombed by aggressive policing. It is like a flash mob. Come on MN be less predictable, are you that pissed off all the time?

There must be someone else who can see this pattern in the forum recently? Everything is shot down at the get go. Unless the OP is crying, dying or LTB.

Yes I see the pattern it's ridiculous.

Why I don't Really post much these days because it gets silly.

And people act as if they are holier than thou, it's very weird!

Destinyforthetaking22 · 11/12/2021 18:17

I love them. A few months ago I bought my first tracksuit in a bright colour. It’s is one of the best things I have bought this year. So cosy and warm. I do a professional job and when I have video meetings at home I keep my joggers on and put a smart top and blazer on. Never been more comfy. I like a slim fit which looks better.

IReallyLikeCrows · 11/12/2021 18:46

I have a lovely cotton thick pair of joggers that I generally only wear at home and I love them. I'm getting a new pair from ASOS next week in orange and as they'll be new I'll definitely wear them out because it's cold, they'll be comfortable and warmer than anything else I can wear on my legs. They look absolutely fine.

Catastrophejane · 11/12/2021 19:10

OP - YANBU!

Everyone ‘judges’ people by what they wear.

I’m also of an age where tracksuit bottoms were only worn by total chavs or P.E teachers.

However, I also found myself on the Hush website this morning drooling over their tracksuit bottoms- they look stylish, but also super comfy, and are the only acceptable way of introducing an elasticated waist bands into my middle aged wardrobe!

Feel free to judge! I’d be doing the same if I wasn’t wearing them! Grin

FreedomFaith · 11/12/2021 19:15

I leave the house most days in joggers at the moment, mens ones too. And often mens goodies. Mens clothes are just better than womens, they actually have lining and thickness to them, and cheaper.

But I'm actually warm then too and don't go home freezing or whining about the cold. I don't give a shiny shit about fashion on a regular day, I'll dress up nice if going out, I don't need to look like a super model on your average day.

Atlanticli · 11/12/2021 19:23

The man I'm seeing bought me a tracksuit (the first I've owned in my adult life). I was extremely sceptical when I opened the package because it was a random surprise and I typically wear dresses and jeans.

I wore it in the house and found it surprisingly comfortable. Its quite flatterning on me too. I've now taken to wearing it to my DS's football matches and some school runs under my long coat. Its perfect and I want more! I can't believe how warm I am!!! Strangely enough, I buy my DC matching/co-ordinated tracksuits. I'm looking for a matching set to get myself for Christmas.

Aderyn21 · 11/12/2021 19:29

Everyone judges other people - if you say you don't, then you're not being honest.
Jogger wearers fall into two categories - those following fashion and those who cba in life. They look grim on the majority imo. They are comfortable and warm, which is a huge selling point and on young, beautiful people they can look okay (if the joggers are black and well fitted and spotlessly clean). However if you are not young and beautiful, they look really scruffy.
I own one pair and they are definitely for cba days or indoors. I feel like a mess of I wear them out - a bit like if I'd gone to Tesco in my slippers!

ScreamingMeMe · 11/12/2021 19:30

@Okbye

I know what you mean OP. It’s definitely a ‘trend’ now for the younger generation but I personally wouldn’t ever leave the house in joggers! (Unless my house was on fire or something 😄)

I do wonder if girls will look back in 2/5/10/20 years or whatever at the trends these days (90’s trends, joggers, ridiculously big puffer jackets, massive chunky trainers) and think what the actual fuck was I thinking?!

Isn't that true of most fashion trends? Grin
purplesequins · 11/12/2021 19:31

just from the headline I thought - yes, joggers i.e. people who run make leggings look classy.
I like a good pair of running leggings!

Givemeyourlove56 · 11/12/2021 19:34

Personally I wouldn’t wear them out but they are comfortable so can see why people wear them especially if pregnant.

FabriqueBelgique · 11/12/2021 19:37

My opinion on joggers:

I LOVE them this winter, but only indoors! I’ve been wearing high-waisted with not-too-cropped t-shirts (hides the midriff but gives a good silhouette to my normally trunk-shaped body).

But one wear gives them huge “knees” so I change into jeans or leggings to leave the house.

Leggings definitely feel smart now Grin

My experience of seeing joggers in public is the same as yours. I don’t know why you’re not allowed to say it if it’s true!

I think men’s joggers always look much nicer and thicker! But I find them a bit crotchy, too much fabric.
Mummadeze · 11/12/2021 19:49

I wear them because I exercise a lot and don’t have time to change. Eg I go to tennis on Saturday morning, go back via the supermarket. Go home, collect my DD to take her to drama school, spend three hours in another town whilst she is there, during which time I go for a run and then look round the shops. Finally get home around 5pm. Which means I wear joggers all day every Saturday. It is practical for me! I do think they look scruffy and unfashionable but in all honesty I really don’t care.

Builderscrack · 11/12/2021 19:56

I’m with you, OP- people truly need to chiiiiiiiillll right on out!! How some people can get this offended over a critique of tracky bottoms I will never know.

CrimbleCrumble1 · 11/12/2021 20:00

I love my Hush joggers, bloody love them.

FreedomFaith · 11/12/2021 20:01

Yes but they are for men after all. Grin But I don't care, I can walk outside without my legs freezing and then being sore.
