Joggers make leggings look classy!

For many years i only saw men wearing them, men who appeared to have either given up or had a work/sport related excuse, or else they wore them to show off food, oil or snot stains. They sagged like giant nappies and made everyone look depressed and a bit waynetta slob. Perhaps I have bad associations as in the early 2000's my friend's abusive older partner wore them, crotch halfway down his legs, like a giant, aggressive, untidy marshmallow.

Then suddenly they were high fashion, have almost overtook jeans and leggings on ladies clothing websites and I just don't get it! I wouldn't judge someone for wearing them (this wouldn't occur to me in real life)) but im amazed at their popularity! I get that they're probably warm, comfy, but jeez they make leggings look high class, at least leggings go with anything and look sleek and comfy if you suit them.

@Leftbutcameback

I think the lighter ones often get dirty really quickly. Just saw two girls wearing pink and grey ones (respectively) and they were obviously a bit muddy cos of the weather. You can't see that with jeans
You can if someone wears pink or grey jeans... or light blue, or white
Carinattheliqorstore1 · 11/12/2021 16:46

I wore them when wfh. Loved them. Only would wear them outside if walking the dog, doing some sort of exercise (ie on the way to swimming)

IAmHereForTheFood · 11/12/2021 16:46

DS just asked for a particular pair of joggers for Christmas. They are £75 Shock the other pair he wants are a mere £50.

Just10moreminutesplease · 11/12/2021 16:49

@Quickchangeartiste

I spend my life in leggings, but I wouldn’t say anything makes them look classy, there are just practical for my lifestyle 😂 Joggers for me are just a warm alternative, strictly to be worn indoors and of course they must be fresh 😄 But I am old and remember the horrors that were shell suits and velour joggers with slogans across the butt, so yes, I would have to agree with you - they are not for me
I hate to be the bearer of bad news but the velour joggers with slogans on the butt are back Grin.

It’s pretty much a uniform for my little cousin and her uni mates!

Pedalpushers · 11/12/2021 16:53

I love joggers. Clean and neat ones with an otherwise tidy outfit look perfectly presentable, noone is claiming they are high fashion.

MN is generally obsessed with 'timeless' (boring) clothes though so I wouldn't be surprised if everyone agrees with you.

CouncilHousedAndViolentBaby · 11/12/2021 16:56

They look nice if you style them right 🤷‍♀️

Maireas · 11/12/2021 16:59

@GrandDuchessRomanov

Are judgey pants similar to jogging pants?
I think they're slightly tighter round the crotch
lynntheyresexpeople · 11/12/2021 17:00

That went well 😂😂😂

He'll get a lot of wear out of them, though. Please tell me they're velour with a message on the arse?
GrandDuchessRomanov · 11/12/2021 17:01

@Herecomesthesun70 I'm genuinely not joking either, all of my family agree.

If I was brave enough I would post a pic but I haven't allowed a camera near me since 2004.

Sorry you are having a shit day, hope your evening is better :)

Maireas · 11/12/2021 17:06

I absolutely know what you mean OP. I'm wearing tailored trousers, silk top, pearl earrings and necklace. Mind, I've been clearing out the loft, though. When I go out to Tesco I'll change into my Chanel suit, Prada shoes and wear my tiara. It is a Kokoshnik that used to belong to Queen Alexandra.
Opinions, please - is it chilly enough for my ermine cape?

CharlotteRose90 · 11/12/2021 17:07

You chill the fuck out and stop judging people. You probably sit there in your posh fancy outfits thinking it makes you look cool when actually it makes you look like a knob. I wear leggings walking the dog or to the gym and I know I look good in them. People can wear whatever they want.

thefamous5 · 11/12/2021 17:15

You ok, hun?

NoSquirrels · 11/12/2021 17:16

If it helps, OP, this made me snort

like a giant, aggressive, untidy marshmallow

You have a way with words!

I don’t like joggers as high fashion but it’s a lockdown-response thing, isn’t it, following on from sports luxe. It’ll go away again soon. Generally everything has moved away from tight-fitting to looser in the last 12 months - jeans aren’t skinny, joggers not leggings etc.

Shakinstevensisquestionable · 11/12/2021 17:31

I love it when this happens.

OP: "I don't care"
Also OP: acts like someone pissed on her mum

EmpressSuiko · 11/12/2021 17:34

You are right, they are warm and comfortable, if I’m not going out I live in my joggers!
The older I’m getting the more I prioritise being comfortable and if I do need to pop out to the shop I’m still dressed sensibly, years ago I wouldn’t have been caught dead in them 😂

Sceptre86 · 11/12/2021 17:37

I like leggings because they are more comfy than jeans and I can wear them with long tunics, dresses etc. I'm not a big fan of joggers on adults. My sister wears them and to be fair she looks great in them. I'd just look like a slob which is not a look I go for often. Each to their own.

MatildaIThink · 11/12/2021 17:38

So many people losing their shit on both sides and little perspective from anyone. Yes joggers worn in public almost always look awful, yes they can be warm and comfy, people make their choices, we are all judged by those around us for those choices, just as whether we admit it, or are even aware o it, we judge others behaviour and choices.

People have opinions, love or hate joggers, neither opinion is wrong, losing your shit over someone's opinion of joggers is almost certainly wrong though.

DeepaBeesKit · 11/12/2021 17:41

I LOVE that young women are embracing clothing that is comfortable, warm and practical, and disregarding what it looks like.

OliviaKeeling · 11/12/2021 17:41

I wear joggers most of the time. They're comfy, warm and flexible. In winter I often wear thermals underneath too. I don't really give a flying fuck what anyone else thinks of the way I choose to dress. And as we're fast slipping towards another lockdown it hardly matters.

purplesequins · 11/12/2021 17:45

I love the look of velour joggers - with matching hoodie.

dc wear bloody expensive jogging suits (oh how they hate me calling them that!) from a big sports brand. you know the black ones in the shiny material which are skinny up to the knee.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 11/12/2021 17:47

This thread has been spectacular!

My DH wears joggers most of the time. He has well-fitting, clean ones and he wears them out of the house too. I couldn’t care less. He works from home most of the time. If we’re going somewhere for the day or more than just to a shop, he’ll put jeans on instead. I wear leggings for work or out regularly and joggers at home or on PE days at school (teacher).

Hankunamatata · 11/12/2021 17:48

It could be worse - fluorescent shells suits!!!

Same here. I think he looks great in them, very trendy.
turnaroundtime · 11/12/2021 17:57

OP judgy-pants.....I don't think there is anything even remotely low-class or scruffy about these. It may be a matter of differing tastes or it may be that you are just wrong
