Given the fiasco of the last few days how can he possibly stay in office?

How can the Tories possibly think he is useful to them anymore when his private and work life are intertwined in sleaze and lie upon lie?

They say you reap what you sow. If this is true how is BJ even employed or in a relationship?

Aibu to expect an announcement from him soon. I live in hope.

@FreeBritnee

I still like him.

@DroopyClematis

I find it very odd that these parties have take a year to become known.

I'm minded to think that this was contained but with a view to being publicised when the winds of change fly in.

The real power brokers have sat back and waited for the change in public opinion.
Johnson will be allowed to take glory in the vaccine roll out but the knives are out for him.

There's a fair bit of posturing going on by certain cabinet members.

Agree, the timing of the release of this information has been orchestrated to maximum benefit for someone. Which makes it worse, its only been released as part of a political power play, not because those that released it really care.
WhereYouLeftIt · 10/12/2021 20:04

He's shit at being PM. But can you think of a single Cabinet member who wouldn't be just as shit?

The Tories elected him as leader to Get Brexit Done, nothing else. It was beyond their imagination that anything else might need done. OK, nobody expected a global pandemic, but still ... there's always decisions to be made so it's best if you have someone with good judgement in place. He then selected the rest of the Cabinet, ensuring he only picked people incapable of challenging him or doing - well, anything really. Remember the paralysis when he got covid and just nothing happened, no decisions were taken?

He shouldn't be in the job, he's not up to it. But neither are the rest of them.

Lussekatt · 10/12/2021 20:07

Not gonna happen. They are all as bad as each other anyway and frankly, better the devil you know. At least we get gems like peppa pig world and "Forgive me....... forgive me..... forgive me......" from this clown.

5keletor · 10/12/2021 20:08

I'd like to share your optimism, but sadly, I doubt it. Even if he did, we'd just be stuck with another Tory clown.

whenthedoveslie · 10/12/2021 20:10

@FreeBritnee

I still like him.
Bless you Carrie.

How's the baby?

Wineinthegarden · 10/12/2021 20:12

He won’t go. He’s too egotistical . Plus Tory voters will still vote Tory even if they slaughtered kittens live on tv.

Crankley · 10/12/2021 20:14

You can expect what you like but it's unlikely you will get what you are expecting. It was a No 10 staff party which Boris Johnson didn't even attend.

I agree with Mybalconyiscracking

EmKayEm · 10/12/2021 20:14

Knives are being sharpened, but it will be March before he goes.
Probably stick Dishy in for a bit, so expect Liz Truss to be our third female Tory PM.
Which will be a tad embarrassing for Labour...

llangollen21 · 10/12/2021 20:15

He always was unfit for office. However Mr Johnson will still be there on New Year's Day.

beatrixpotterspencil · 10/12/2021 20:19

be very careful what u wish for......

and i say that as a non partisan MNer!

but not dogs! Grin.
LuluBlakey1 · 10/12/2021 20:20

We are stuck with him for a while yet. Too much shit flying around and none of his competitors will want to be associated with any of it. They'll let him take all the flack and for as long as they can- of course he could yet make things even worse for himself and have to go. At the minute the electorate have not yet deserted him, God knows why! If he can get to next Friday things will calm down for him when the Press and Westminster bugger off for a long Christmas break .
Liz Truss looking smug and saying 'Of course last Christmas I was busy getting trade deals for the UK' is another lie- she got us nothing for months and then they were crap. She is hopeless.

Bunnyfuller · 10/12/2021 20:20

Why would he? He doesn’t think he’s done anything wrong. He’s cross with the (getting caught for) joking. He’s not furious at thepartued, or trying to cover up his mate’s corruption or trying to get a bung for a return. He’s furious he was caught.

How much else is there that won’t see the light of day?

Thecurliestwurly · 10/12/2021 20:20

@goodwinter

He is useful for the party right now because he is currently the face of sleaze/corruption accusations, the pandemic response, and (to an extent) Brexit. I imagine he'll be pushed out some time before the next election, to possibly be replaced by Sunak as he seems a good foil to Starmer. Someone on Reddit described it as "boring suit Vs boring suit" and I can absolutely see it. Starmer is leaning on the fact that he's a "responsible grown up" Vs Johnson, so I'm sure the Tories will want to counter that in kind.
I worry this will happen. People seem to vote solely on the PM's performance and forget that blame lies with all of the senior MP's too. They are all pretty crap in my opinion. I shudder at the thought of Gove running the country. I think if it is going to be anyone it will be Sunak or Javid. Still rich bankers who are IMO very out of touch, just hide it better than Boris.

I will never vote Tory again, no matter what the opposition looks like. For me, the last 10 years have been an absolute farce. It feels like the country has been run by privileged teenagers with no emotional intelligence. They have made the characters in The Thick of It look totally competent.

user1471453601 · 10/12/2021 20:21

@Mybalconyiscracking did you feel it was ok, when you saw the families outside number 10 who had lost family members and were not allowed to be with them because of covid?

rrhuth · 10/12/2021 20:22

I would like him to stay for a while just to see how high his unfavourables can go Grin

I was cheered by today's poll reported by mobile.twitter.com/britainelects showing a seven point drop in Conservative support Grin Grin

Obviously responsible me would like someone else to take over as soon as possible.

Poetrypatty · 10/12/2021 20:25

He's made too many enemies and told too many lies. YANBU it's the beginning of the end for him. I think he'll get a visit from the men in grey suits, but he'll want it to seem like it's his idea and will resign by the start of next year, saying he needs to spend time with the family.

TeloMere · 10/12/2021 20:29

YABU.
I'm sure he's planned his departure carefully and it's unlikely to be imminent.

mellongoose · 10/12/2021 20:30

He'll stay. Unless he's found to actually have been at one of these gatherings, then he'll go.

Labour has nothing to offer policy wise which is why they are going for Boris. Playing the man, rather than the ball. People know this and they don't like it.

Hearwego · 10/12/2021 20:31

BJ won the 2019 election with a simple message- get Brexit done. Dominic Cummings was the driving force behind the victory. Hence, winning the seats up north in Labours heartlands.
He’s a one trick pony.
Matt Hancock was having an affair during a pandemic, whilst telling the country to abide by the rules.
And then we had Boris’aid, laughing and joking about a gathering that supposedly happened last Xmas.
Surely as leader Boris has to take responsibility for his staffs actions.
I’m amazed that anyone is evening listening to the government anymore- just shows how conditioned we are to follow instructionsConfused

Thedogscollar · 10/12/2021 20:33

Fingers crossed the North Shropshire by election should be the next nail in the coffin.

More likely it will you be used as 'evidence' by his supporters that despite the headlines, Boris is pretty unbeatable at the ballot box.
Lunaduckdrop · 10/12/2021 20:35

He's a morally corrupt egotist and a liar. He won't resign because his rhinocerous hide thick skin isn't sensitive to public opinion and he doesn't care anyway.
The Tory party won't get rid of him yet, embarrassing though he is, as the next election is too far off. Ask the same question in a year ot two's time....

Ghoulette · 10/12/2021 20:37

@Mybalconyiscracking

As I have said elsewhere, I cannot get exercised over a few civil servants getting together for some warm wine and sweaty cheese, over a year ago. This is what is known as a slow news day at the BBC!
Last Christmas I held someone's hand while they died an awful, anxiety ridden and tearful death because they couldn't even say goodbye to their sons. NOT even through the tiny crack in the window.

Meanwhile these pricks were laughing at us all. It's what is known as them taking the utter fucking piss. It's disgusting what everyone else had to go through while they made a big fucking joke out of it.
