My cat is an arsehole

Digs into one type of food like it’s his last meal on earth, I go and buy a box of 40 sachets and he looks at me like I have presented him with his own shit to eat.

Argh!! What to do? Why is he so fucking fussy?!

One of my girls not only knows where the Dreamies live, but will get on the worktop, open the drawer, take them out, bit the packet open and close the drawer afterwards to gaslight me and DD into thinking we've left them out.

Here's the little bugger trying to pretend she's not fucking with the Christmas tree.

My cats prefer drinking out of drinking glasses with their preference being pint glasses.

I’ll top their water up when I top my glass up but still my glass. Even tried different bowls but nope. Also prefer the glass to be on the night stand too.

@onlychildhamster

Not a cat but I need to keep changing food brand for my Hamster or he would refuse to eat it.

He also believes that it is his human right to have fresh pepper daily. He has a big cage and never bites his cage bars. But at night at around 8 pm (if he hasn't gotten his daily fix of pepper), he starts prancing around and chewing his cage. my DH would hear him in the next room and knowingly tell me - your hamster wants pepper! Once he is fed pepper, he scurries off into his burrow and is happy as Larry.

The silver lining is that he is happy to wake up at any time of the day if he smells pepper.

Sorry @onlychildhamster

I need clarity please, or this will keep me awake tonight... What sort of pepper? Salad pepper? Ground pepper? Peppercorns and if so what colour?! I had a hamster, i didnt know it needed seasoning...

hilariousnamehere · 10/12/2021 13:04

This is actually making me feel better - changed my cats' food this year after a bout of IBD and some weird issues they were both having.

They don't love the new food and DFluffyCat who had the biggest issues and weight loss is not eating enough. Maybe I just need to change it again/rotate? They were so easy for the first 8 years 😂🤦🏻‍♀️

hilariousnamehere · 10/12/2021 13:05

Oops, forgot the cat tax!

@M0nica44 salad pepper! Not not seasoning, I think that would kill it :(

Just lovely green, yellow red pepper.

onlychildhamster · 10/12/2021 15:26

@M0nica44 bell peppers/paprika is the correct term!

M0nica44 · 10/12/2021 15:45

@onlychildhamster
Thank you! That makes so much more sense than my the direction my brain was going in!

Shufflebumnessie · 10/12/2021 15:59

One of our cats is apparently so stressed (no idea by what as she spends most of her time sleeping or eating) that she's caused herself stress-induced cystitis. £70 for two 7 day packs of medication! And we've been told it may become a regular occurrence because of her age Shock

NeedsCharging · 10/12/2021 16:07

In regards to the water thing....I haven't peed on my own for years despite my DC being adults/teens.
Reason is everytime I use the loo babycat knows and is faster then me so gets there first. She then demands I turn the cold tap on in the sink for her to drink from. Obviously I do ad I am told.

BigWoollyJumpers · 10/12/2021 16:11

Arthur will refuse a plate of food of the same variety he woolfed down yesterday. So I put that plate to one side to clean and wash. I put a fresh sachet into his plate for the night. Come down next morning, he has eaten the old, stale, plate he refused from the night before Angry.

He's big bastard though, so not worried he doesn't eat enough. And no, I don't have exceptionally short legs, he really is that enormous.

Arthur is a big unit 😁

My old cat adored this one type of food, Bozita that I had to order in from Germany until one time they had a special offer so I bought three boxes. Hated it from then on. I ended up working my way through the list on Zooplus and he would always have a food twice before deciding he hated it and me forever. God I miss the furry little arse

Whatthechicken · 10/12/2021 16:57

This thread is really funny. I have a semi feral that decided it was going to live with us. Her diet used to be mice and rabbits. I’m often stood in the supermarket staring at the shelf full of cat food trying to second guess which meat she will eat this week. There are always other people staring at the shelf looking just as conflicted as me.

CuddlyDudley · 10/12/2021 17:10

We have a sixteen year old cat and he adores those fridge raider chicken things. Ds will have a pack and the cat will sit there looking half starved despite having been fed two minutes previous by same ds, so cat ends up with half a pack of those. And we have to lock the cheese away as he goes mad for it.
His favourite trick is when we have guests he will lick pathetically at his empty bowl as if we never feed him until we feel we have to feed him to shut him up

ChampagneLassie · 10/12/2021 17:11

I thought it was better not to vary cats diets. My previous cats happily eat same food for years. New cat (6 months) had been very happy with his food and then went off it. I bought something else...as OP said wolfed down first few meals like last meal, then suddenly turns his nose up. Lady in pet shop encouraged me to buy a variety and rotate them. But I'd always thought it wasn't good and to change the food ( just googled and this is the scientific advice) and we're anthropizing them in thinking they want "variety". I'm at a little of a loss. Perhaps they are just bastards sent to test us.

Besswess88 · 10/12/2021 17:34

It’s so humbling to know I am not alone 🤣🤣🤣

Not all cats are aresholes! Only one of mine is! The other is an absolute darling and a sweetie. But she's very, very slow in the brain. She genuinely doesn't understand normal cat things. When she was young I asked the vet if there was something wrong with her. He inspected her and pronounced her a very healthy, very happy, very sweet-natured cat. I asked 'then why does she get lost in bushes/not understand I can't pick up a blanket she's sitting on/etc'. This man looked me in the eye and said "All mammalian intelligence is on a curve. Someone has to be at the bottom."

EnigmaCat · 10/12/2021 18:26

Small black 2yr old just turned it' nose up at freshly roasted chicken, needs Felix rotated so it doesn't get three of the same flavour. She prefers fresh mouse, which she stores live on the stairs?!

They do say if cats had thumbs humans would not be top of the tree...

JaceLancs · 10/12/2021 19:19

I can’t compete with fresh food
Tonight it was a squirrel
Yesterday small rodent
Day before 2 birds
They also love spiders, slow moving flies and most beetles
Only thing off the menu are slugs and snails
Bizarrely they view the fish in our pebble pond as off limits although they do drink the water

maddiemookins16mum · 10/12/2021 19:19

@iloveeverykindofcat. What a darling she is.

sallyisstarstruck · 10/12/2021 20:26

I got the following text earlier this evening:

"Just spotted Dcat perched on the top edge of the dining room door. Sorry, couldn't get a photo." Hmm

Arsehole cat.

lljkk · 10/12/2021 20:36

I have just locked the kittens away for the night.
Fat kitten likes to come love me up around ... 1am... 3am... 4am... 5am. I'm not having it.

They aren't fussy about food, tbf, Skinny kitten in particular will try anything with fat or protein in it.

But arseholes about letting me sleep - this they are for sure.

hotfroth · 10/12/2021 21:10

@Sarahlou252

My cats are arseholes. Opposite problem here, they will eat ANYTHING!!! Can't leave so much as a slice of toast out. They rip the bags off bread, steal out of the bin, steal from plates, and are savage when we're brave enough to feed them. Cannot be trusted around food at all and can't be present when we're eating. They are exhausting shitbagging tossers.
We have cats like these too. It's like having a resident plague of furry locusts.

The only real solution I have found to feline fussiness is to get more cats. 3 as a minimum, ideally more. Because there will always be one who likes that particular food, and will greedily scoff the others' uneaten food too. After the first incident of seeing the food they didn't want being eaten by someone else, they don't let it happen again.
