Is your work night out/party going ahead?

Unless you've had it already, is it still going ahead this week/month, or has it been cancelled?

I've heard of several cancelling them. We've got a team meal booked but several staff members starting to pull out from it.

Hoping for mine to be cancelled. Too much of a risk, close to Christmas, when I'm expecting elderly relatives to come and stay. I can't risk their lives.

A theatre trip next week for a musical but I don't think I will be able to sit and wear a mask for that long in a hot confined space so am planning to bow out gracefully.

Last 3 times I've been to the theatre, it has been freezing. I've warned friends to take big coats and huge scarves. They've gone completely overboard with the air con, in some sort of belief the virus won't survive in a cold building it seems Confused
Plus, once seated, hardly anyone is wearing a mask IME.

Ours went ahead last week but my employer doesn't care about our health or well being. Thankfully we were all fine this time. Last time there was an outbreak they wouldn't let people work from home and were reported to HSE.

But the whole atmosphere was different from previous times to be honest. Not the usual sense of letting your hair down.

refusetobeasheep · 09/12/2021 23:50

ours happened tonight. not feeling 100% but was great!

This is who we are mixing with.

Happy to say all events have been cancelled and it's left to our discretion. I'm hoping to have a very boozy Christmas long lunch with my two most gorgeous and beloved colleagues
We three don't want the big exposure to Covid and then carry it home into our families

What? Why would you three on your very boozy lunch be any less likely to catch and spread covid than anyone else?

MedusasBadHairDay · 10/12/2021 06:48

Ours has been canceled now.

Oakdene · 10/12/2021 18:50

Now cancelled. Reason given - unsafe and have to take into account a public view of the message it gives. (Education-public sector/LA)

CantChatNow · 10/12/2021 18:54

We were never having one. Work for library services at a university

thegcatsmother · 10/12/2021 21:28

Going out for a team pizza, about 15 of us on Tuesday. Looking forward to it.

NotTheGrinchAgain · 10/12/2021 21:34

Ours was for team of 16. Cancelled for next week.

Lockeddownagain · 10/12/2021 21:41

My husband and is works dos are both canceled as of today

CoverYourselfInChocolateGlory · 10/12/2021 21:49

Yes, ours is cancelled and moved to virtual.

notanothertakeaway · 10/12/2021 21:56

@wasthataburp

Yes both the family one and the office one at a large venue. Both with hundreds of people and all going ahead. If people feel uncomfortable then they are free to not attend. There is no reason why they shouldn't go ahead
There is no reason why they shouldn't go ahead

@wasthataburp Don't you watch the news?!

notanothertakeaway · 10/12/2021 21:58

@SagittariusDwarf

Mine is tonight and is still going ahead. Probably around 150 people, we have hired a whole bar for the evening. Looking forward to it!
@SagittariusDwarf

That seems so irresponsible...

HangingDitch · 10/12/2021 22:00

Cancel it, fair enough, but doing it virtual instead….. the horror.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 10/12/2021 22:07

Virtual sounds fucking awful. I'd rather not do one at all.

We are close friends, we know how we conduct our lives. Three people having a lunch together is very different to being rammed into a bar with 50-200 people at night who are boozed up mixing and mingling. Surely you can see there's a difference there
Sinthie · 10/12/2021 22:20

I work in a school, rammed with nearly 3000 students. So an Xmas meal in a pub with my department is actually far “safer” 🙄

NeverForgetYourDreams · 10/12/2021 23:05

I've just paid for my 7 employees to have a pub meal and drinks and it was lovely. Left them to it now and come home. A bit of normality amongst the chaos. Boy did we need it.

OatALot · 10/12/2021 23:09

Ours cancelled. DH is at NEC and I'm praying it's cancelled as not only could it impact his adults children staying over Xmas, which DD10 is so happy about, we'll be seeing my baby nephew and parents for dinner.

I'd pull out. He won't.

SagittariusDwarf · 10/12/2021 23:12

@notanothertakeaway it went ahead, and it was really fun. We all had to do a lateral flow test before attending, and our global work policy is that you can't attend the office or any work functions without being fully vaccinated. So pretty covid-safe. A lot of people who have Christmas travelling plans didn't go, just in case, which I totally understand. But it was a good turnout and a lot of fun.

AliTheMinx · 10/12/2021 23:13

My husband is currently out at his work do. Meal and pub - approx 10 people. The school parents' party is tonight. Lots of people dropped out but it's still going ahead. My work do (approx 120 people), which was supposed to be next Thursday, has been cancelled. I'm disappointed, but do understand. We have a team lunch next Tuesday and are still planning to go ahead.

Just don't go.
