Is your work night out/party going ahead?

Unless you've had it already, is it still going ahead this week/month, or has it been cancelled?

I've heard of several cancelling them. We've got a team meal booked but several staff members starting to pull out from it.

I’m the organiser of one - a dinner/drinks in central London next Saturday and now I don’t know what to do. There’s about 14 people (7 employees and their partners) and all of them still seem keen but I also don’t want anyone at risk Confused

BotterMon · 08/12/2021 22:34

We booked ours for mid-January. Industry where everyone does at least one PCR per week and 3 x week LFT anyway and all triple vaxxed.

All been office based for past 21 months anyway so if venue open will be going ahead.

sleepylittlebunnies · 08/12/2021 22:35

I work in a care home and there was no plan for a Christmas party this year or last. We are all double vaccinated plus boosted, LFD test before every shift, PCR test weekly and wear masks at all times on 12 hour shifts.

I don’t think it would be worth risking staff isolating over Christmas or missing our own family gatherings by testing positive or being a contact.

naynayisay · 08/12/2021 22:36

It's this Friday and going ahead in Wales. Can't wait!!

mindutopia · 08/12/2021 22:37

Ours was cancelled (I work in infectious diseases so we’re always ahead of the curve on these things). Dh decided to go ahead with his for his employees. One of the guys tested positive 2 days later and now Dh has COVID too, and very likely to take the whole team out right before Christmas. 🙄 He doesn’t like to admit I’m usually right about these things. Dc and I likely to follow so probably means not seeing family as planned over Christmas as they were coming to stay with us for a week.

Thorilicious · 08/12/2021 22:37

I cancelled a night out I'd organised last week. I'm due to go to another this weekend, but my DC have covid Although my Lfts are negative, and I could technically go, I don't feel comfortable with the risk.

@caketiger

Ours was a week ago. 80+ people. Moved online via Zoom.
Sounds crap tbh. I hate Zoom, especially with that many people.

Cancelled. Work at large NHS trust. All parties, meals etc cancelled.

laurenlodge · 08/12/2021 23:07

Ours due to be on Friday and likely cancelled tomorrow so I hear

Meadowlands · 08/12/2021 23:11

Yes ours going ahead. All doing tests beforehand.
I feel so sorry for the restaurant/pub trade.

MedusasBadHairDay · 08/12/2021 23:30

As far as I know still going ahead, we've just been asked to take LFTs beforehand.

HollowTalk · 08/12/2021 23:34

Though I think it's the right thing to pull out, I can't help but feel really sorry for the hospitality industry.

FrownedUpon · 08/12/2021 23:36

Ours has been cancelled. Definitely a sensible decision.

fiftiesmum · 08/12/2021 23:37

Ours was last weekend, forty people. All have twice weekly lfts and triple jabbed because of nature of jobs. Only two cancelled as pinged by the app. Had a fantastic time and no positive tests yet this week.

Hunderland · 08/12/2021 23:39

Ours is next Friday, still going ahead as of now awaiting cancellation notice though Confused

JaceLancs · 08/12/2021 23:39

Ours is a fairly sedate lunch in a local restaurant - so no reason to cancel despite Covid changes

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 08/12/2021 23:42

Meant to be, yes. It’s just a meal we pay for ourselves though.

mrsfollowill · 08/12/2021 23:45

Dh's is on Saturday (my work does not have one!) Around 25 staff plus partners. Work has asked them all to do a LFT on Friday and given kits to take home for partners to test. Indoor venue is huge - will be approx 1000 there. We are going but will wear masks/distance etc as much as we can- both double jabbed (although it seems that does not make much of a difference these days)
Dbro works do has been cancelled- but a lot of the staff had booked hotels etc to stay in the city overnight so most of them are going ahead and having an 'unofficial' do.
Wondering if Christmas will be 'cancelled ' again - I think a lot will ignore any new rules especially on having people in your home after the latest shitshow!

LittlestLightOnTheXmasTree · 08/12/2021 23:48

We have no official one this year but a group have hired a room in a pub and are doing one that way

Not impressed actually as they will be close contact and then we are all expected to work with them the next day. Will be 60 or more attending apparently!

Journeynotdestination · 09/12/2021 00:06

Ours was next Friday. Got cancelled today 😤

bananaboats · 09/12/2021 00:20

Ours is on Saturday, still going ahead at the moment.

BoredZelda · 09/12/2021 00:21

One department at my husband’s work had theirs last night. They booked a private room in a restaurant and stayed there all night.

One of them was pinged today as having been a close contact of someone (not an attendee) who has tested positive. All 30 of them now have to WFH as per their employer’s policies, until they can provide 2 clear LFTs in the next week. There is an event at the weekend about half of them were supposed to be at their workplace for. They are now trying to work out how to cover it.

I’m sure plenty of people will be going ahead with theirs. My company is having it on the last working day and I’m sure my boss will go ahead with it on the basis that if they all get covid, we’re off for two weeks anyway so it won’t affect business. I wasn’t going anyway for other reasons, but many more are thinking of pulling out in case they are ill over Christmas.

rubydoobydoo · 09/12/2021 00:35

Just got home from mine - there were only 7 of us and it was in a venue that seems to cater specifically for work parties so about 150 people there all together.

DorothyZbornakIsAQueen · 09/12/2021 00:36

Rather than a regional do we usually have, it was split into separate offices. Was on 17th.

Now been cancelled. Top bods have said we can't stop you from meeting, but it won't be understeer name of our workplace and we will not be contributing to the meal.

I think this is fair enough.

Missisip · 09/12/2021 01:11

Ours has been postponed until the new year due to my workplace reintroducing masks.
People want to enjoy Christmas with their families instead of risking catching covid from a colleague.
We currently have 3 out of 10 off with Covid from our office.
