Is your work night out/party going ahead?

Unless you've had it already, is it still going ahead this week/month, or has it been cancelled?

I've heard of several cancelling them. We've got a team meal booked but several staff members starting to pull out from it.

Drinks tomorrow have just been cancelled! According to email from boss "I have had emails from several members of staff and think it is sensible to postpone until after Christmas"

I was not one of the members of staff who bowed out, but only because I had yet to hit send on my "I am not coming" email. I am fairly relieved tbh.

CityCommuter · 09/12/2021 16:24

Is anyone calling their party a 'business meeting'?

PrincessPaws · 09/12/2021 17:22

Ours was cancelled today

EachandEveryone · 09/12/2021 17:28

Half of ours are still going as they won’t get their money back, they had an emailing advising them not to go and our bosses aren’t going.

toptomatoes · 09/12/2021 17:28

Cancelled. There was a poll and most didn’t want to go ahead or were undecided. This was before the latest announcement.

junglejane66 · 09/12/2021 17:41

Ours is going ahead, as it did last year. Hopefully number 11 wont complain about the noise again this year!

NewPapaGuinea · 09/12/2021 19:40

Ours has been cancelled, pissed me right off. Now seeing if anyone still wants to do something unofficially.

IgneousRock · 09/12/2021 19:41

Mine is next week, still going ahead as things stand.

ruabon1977 · 09/12/2021 19:42

All cancelled, not that everyone was having one to begin with.

ruabon1977 · 09/12/2021 19:42

@junglejane66 very subtle- have Ant and Dec been invited?

Missmissmiiiiiiiiisss · 09/12/2021 19:44

Ours is going ahead, but it’s in the office during what would otherwise be a workday. We can’t exclusively work from home anyway, so not really much more risk.

MrsDThomas · 09/12/2021 19:45

Yes. Absolutely no reason to cancel it. 7 of us working in a room. And we have a table at a small restaurant booked. If were good enough to work together were good enough to socialise too. Its not stopping us.

Missmissmiiiiiiiiisss · 09/12/2021 19:47

School nativity also still happening, which I’m so happy about. Parents are in close contact with their children who are in close contact with one another anyway. We are basically one big bubble for infants school children. So I don’t really think schools cancelling will reduce the spread much, just lots of sad children.

ListenLinda · 09/12/2021 19:53

It was cancelled this morning. People were due to travel all over the country. There is talk of something ‘online’, which if last years is anything to go by, it will be a fiasco

AlwaysReadyForABlether · 09/12/2021 20:00

Ours is meant to be tomorrow - late lunch in a restaurant/bar followed by drinks in a reserved area in a different bar. Subsidised by our work and organised as a work event. Now that Public Health Scotland have asked for events to be cancelled I expect it will be - the company has been pretty cautious throughout.

thegreenlight · 09/12/2021 20:10

Ours better bloody go ahead! I work in a primary school and no one gives a crap day to day about us catching covid. I will be properly pissed off if we are made to cancel our work do after the year we’ve had - I plan on getting absolutely shit faced to forget about remote teaching and all the other nonsense we’ve had to endure!

MindfulBear · 09/12/2021 20:12

Our leadership team lunch has been cancelled on basis it would be odd to meet up for lunch when there is "please work from home" guidance released!

And in the same vein they cancelled the team Christmas party.

It is a real shame but damned if they do and damned if they don't!!!

coogee · 09/12/2021 20:17

Cancelled. Replaced by an online get together.

Sod that.

Astrabelle · 09/12/2021 20:23

My Christmas party was cancelled last minute on Tuesday...gutted but understood as I work for an NHS service...then three of us went to the pub round the corner after work and had the best time ever!

Halloaten · 09/12/2021 20:26

Wtf are people cancelling? I'm so confused. Ours is going ahead, couple of hundred people from my work at a venue that caters for around 1000 per event. Will be interesting if other companies cancel, all my work are very keen to go. Its all inclusive paid for

OhGiveUp · 09/12/2021 20:29

Ours is still going ahead next Friday.
I would be pissed off if it got cancelled.
It's a four course dinner followed by a live band and a disco. I've been looking forward to it for weeks.

meh12 · 09/12/2021 20:44

Wtf are people cancelling?

Civil service so my unit is all back to WFH and the optics wouldn't look right to go in for an Xmas thing. Yes I'm aware of the irony, just the joys of civil service.

lampygirl · 09/12/2021 21:24

We’ve privately hired a small venue (not a drinking establishment, think go karting etc and bought in nibbles) so will be going ahead still as it’s really no different to being in the office together, if anything it’s better ventilated! We’d normally have a few tables at one of those big generic Christmas parties which I can see why it might not be massively wise to attend. I’m very pleased as I hate the time it takes to get served a shit mass catering dinner and doing something a bit more fun and laid back is what’s needed tbh.

WeeBenny · 09/12/2021 21:36

No ours is cancelled. We can't risk the whole department going down the week before Xmas. I don't want to risk anything either or I won't get to see my family at Xmas

in2dagroove · 09/12/2021 22:27

We had ours tonight, numbers were a little depleted but still had a nice meal with colleagues
