Unless you've had it already, is it still going ahead this week/month, or has it been cancelled?

I've heard of several cancelling them. We've got a team meal booked but several staff members starting to pull out from it.

Yes, going out for a meal, not expecting a raucous affair and does not feel like it is a huge risk, we all wfh anyway so relatively low risk imo. Most risk vectors for us are the children at school, my son's school does not seem bad at the mo.

One of mine went ahead last night and I've got another one on Wednesday. No sign of it being cancelled. I'm looking forward to it. I'm double vaxxed, boostered and flu jabbed. What more can I do?

meh12 · 09/12/2021 14:02

Cancelled because it was on a work day but we now have to WFH, I'm so worried for the hospitality sector.

ineedaholidayandwine · 09/12/2021 14:08

Where i work any from next week have to be cancelled :-(

Sunsetsupernova · 09/12/2021 14:11

Ours is tomorrow night in a central London bar with 50 people. Still going ahead. I’m the organiser and I’m very relieved I’ve not had to cancel all of the suppliers we’ve organised at such short notice!

BackInBlackAgain · 09/12/2021 14:13

Ours was a meal on site but it was cancelled a couple of weeks ago.

cereallover · 09/12/2021 14:14

Ours was next Tuesday....been cancelled.

BiscuitBean · 09/12/2021 14:16

Ours is tomorrow. Huge party for several hundred people in central London. I’m not going (never planned to) and so many people are now dropping out that they might as well have cancelled it.

weebarra · 09/12/2021 14:17

HR sent an email today to ask people to reconsider their plans. We had a small team meal planned but I'm not going, I'm management and also vulnerable. Haven't had booster yet. Management lunch also postponed. I'm gutted.

Stuckandinamess · 09/12/2021 14:22

A theatre trip next week for a musical but I don't think I will be able to sit and wear a mask for that long in a hot confined space so am planning to bow out gracefully.

None of us in the building have been allowed/able to work from home so it's not like we would be having a big reunion or anything , we see each other every daySmile.

MrsWarleggan · 09/12/2021 14:27

Ours is next Friday at a restaurant opposite a work. 10 of us going out of an office of 20....still going ahead and work haven't told us we can't......yet!!!

givemushypeasachance · 09/12/2021 14:47

We were having a small team meal tomorrow evening, that's cancelled. Last week there was a pub gathering for some other teams in the office and several people seem to have got covid as a result, emails around referring to it as an outbreak and test and trace contacting everyone who was there...

Thefuturestory · 09/12/2021 15:05

Ours has now been cancelled.

SagittariusDwarf · 09/12/2021 15:07

Mine is tonight and is still going ahead. Probably around 150 people, we have hired a whole bar for the evening. Looking forward to it!

sociallydistained · 09/12/2021 15:10

I’d definitely go to one now (my job is solo so I don’t have one sadly) but by middle of next week I’d be nervous about catching it and be isolating for Christmas Day… I wouldn’t be arsed if I’d had Covid recently though.

Lollipop999 · 09/12/2021 15:19

@TheUsualChaos

Cancelled. Work at large NHS trust. All parties, meals etc cancelled.
I presume if you’re nhs (like me) you have to organise and pay for your own, with no money from management?

Did everyone who was going decide to cancel or were they told to?

Our department has theirs this weekend. I couldn’t attend anyway, but apparently they are under pressure from management to cancel it (and lose their deposits), even though management haven’t had anything to do with organising it and weren’t going. Plus it was outside work time.

Personally I don’t think management can cancel it in our case as they don’t have the authority as it’s still lawful to attend?

MorningStarling · 09/12/2021 15:19

Mine's been cancelled, rightly so.

Anoisagusaris · 09/12/2021 15:24

Not in the UK but an directive issued from management in my large public sector organisation that Christmas parties should not be organised .

Sunsetsupernova · 09/12/2021 15:42

That was my view @Lollipop999 I’m not NHS but if they had cancelled ours we were all still planning to go out together. Surely they can’t stop us meeting up outside of work time. It’s a directive to work from home, not stay at home

MrsMiddleMother · 09/12/2021 15:51

Our work meal+drinks is still going ahead, although our team leader has said to keep it secret basically as the big boss has said they should be cancelled as if everyone caught covid that's the whole department out. I won't be going as I have to self isolate before surgery then.

User42729209 · 09/12/2021 15:56

Nope, all cancelled across all locations

whywouldntyou · 09/12/2021 16:02

Had ours last week (I didn't go) and earlier this week had an email around a load of those that went now have covid! No idea which variant but really glad I baled out in the end!

butwhatcanwedo · 09/12/2021 16:10

Mine has been cancelled and I’m disappointed. Haven’t seen many people for two years now.
I think being with other people is just so important for us all as individuals and as a society. So sad what’s happening.

buddhasbelly · 09/12/2021 16:13

No official work one, work have advised to cancel unofficial ones. Feel its the right decision but also feel incredibly sorry for the hospitality industry.

eurochick · 09/12/2021 16:15

Ours has been cancelled. I feel for the hospitality industry but didn't particularly want to go in the current circumstances.

My kid's school is still planning to hold a big carol concert next week with parents invited. It's idiocy in my view.
