Will Johnson be gone before Christmas or after?

Sarahlou63 · 07/12/2021 22:38

I'm thinking the 1922 committee grandees will run out of patience fairly soon. So will Johnson stand aside to be a better parent before Christmas or will he continue to drag his party into the shit into 2022?

YABU - hangs on for grim death

YANBU - Who the fuck is Johnson?

Regardless of your political stance, the catastrophic impact this will have on public perception of government Covid guidance as we head into our Omicron wave is what’s truly despicable.

People are going to feel emboldened believing if ‘they can ignore the rules why can’t I’ which may ultimately lead to a lot of avoidable suffering.

Vote for a clown, you get a circus, only this time we voted in Pennywise.

Gonnagetgoing · 08/12/2021 09:57

@StellaGibson118 - it staggers me that throughout his career and more so as PM Boris has been able to get away with bluster and buffoonery and rarely been called out on it.

I think many love his bumbling fool act, let’s play ping pong for Olympics bid whilst forgetting he does have an iota of Machiavellian touch behind him (I always imagine Rees-Mogg et al being Bo-Jo’s puppet masters).

MarshaBradyo · 08/12/2021 09:58

No idea

I’m sure many are very angry at him in government but he won by a landslide so some will have their seat due to that

There may be some letters of NC but who knows

Cattenberg · 08/12/2021 10:01

We voted on PR in 2011 and it was about 70% in favour of keeping FPTP. That was democracy in action.

The Alternative Vote system is not PR. It bothers me that so many people voted in the AV referendum without knowing this. The Lib Dems were completely outmanoeuvred and should never have agreed to that referendum.

Now, most people mistakenly believe that the electorate were offered PR and rejected it. But we were never given the choice.

Poetrypatty · 08/12/2021 10:02

Boris does have gravitas and charm in abundance. He’s got the like-ability factor in spades

I think for many that likeability either wasn't there for them or has now gone. To me he's an absolute creep, as well as being a cheat and liar.

Blinkingbatshit · 08/12/2021 10:03

Meh, I’m starting to think Russia invading the Ukraine and ww3 erupting might be the only way to re-set what has become of this Country - our govt is run by a feckless liar, the civil service and particularly the foreign office is beyond incompetent and reprehensibly without responsibility- ok yes, I don’t wish that really but how on earth do we effect change when the opposition is as bad?! Oh yeh, and the mandarins are there full time no matter what - I cannot believe those in charge stayed on holiday as Afghanistan fell.

loveablequalities · 08/12/2021 10:03

I don't understand why Starmer is unelectable but Johnson is a good shout. Why? Why are people so obsessed with Labour being unelectable? Starmer might be "uninspired" or whatever but he isn't actually a lying, incompetent buffoon. He has more integrity in his pinkie than Johnson has in his entire being. I'm not saying I agree with the Labour Party on every issue (there's some big elephants in the room for sure) but by what possible measure is the country better off with Johnson and his band of blatantly corrupt, wilfully incompetent thieves? Does Keir Starmer have to actually be the son of God before he gets a vote?

MapleMay11 · 08/12/2021 10:04

What i like about Starmer is that he helped care for his sick mum and dad and his sister works as a carer in a nursing home, this allows a little more insight into ordinary peoples lives.

None of this bullshit is going to win over Tory voters. Starmer is incredibly weak and quite frankly clueless about the direction in which he needs to lead the party. He's also constantly undermined by his deputy who is akin to a rabid bulldog.

thinkingaboutLangCleg · 08/12/2021 10:05

I don’t care about [Starmer’s] blandness. Just to have someone with intelligence, who thinks before they speak and has an ounce of integrity will do fine for me. I have no idea why Starmer has been deemed unelectable.

I would agree, except that Starmer has given in to the gender self-ID policy, which the Labour Party is totally committed to. LibDems and Greens are the same.

Gender self-ID would abolish all women’s single-sex spaces and services. Not just toilets and changing rooms but also clinics, hospital wards, rape crisis centres etc would be open to any man who wants to stroll in. I am more frightened of that than of another Tory government.

I know a lot of these things have already been done by stealth. But once they are written into law, we’ll never get them back.

Poetrypatty · 08/12/2021 10:06

Pretty sad when doing the decent thing by your family and being a decent person is classed as bullshit.

Franklin12 · 08/12/2021 10:09

If there was an election tomorrow the Tories would win. Their majority would be lower but Labour with Raynor and boring old Starmer who always looks like he is about to be sick would lose.

The country wouldnt take another election though so soon. A new leader maybe but not another election. I like Hunt. Patel is too marmite for most and I have met her in real life. I wouldnt want to be on the wrong side of her and I am also struggling to work out why she hasnt got to grips with the channel migrants crossing. She talks a good story definitely but something or somone is stopping her from implementing her ideas. I like the idea of putting the people arriving illegally in a seperate group to be assessed. It becomes less attractive for all to do this.

It all just seems to be 80% young men who often have little in the way of papers. What could possibly go wrong in allowing people to come to the UK without any proof of who they are.....

Blinkingbatshit · 08/12/2021 10:11

@loveablequalities I think Starmer is a good bet - I don’t however think much of the shadow cabinet is…. And I certainly can’t get behind many of their policies that I see as ‘anti-women’. I wonder if many women are in the same predicament - don’t want Tories but definitely want their rights protected from the work mob…to which the only answer is vote Tory at the mo it seems🤷🏼‍♀️

raspberrycordial · 08/12/2021 10:11

The things we see are just the tip of the iceberg, if he/they are getting away with all the other stuff they do then why would they stop? As usual he will bluster his way out of it. He's a puppet not a leader.

Blinkingbatshit · 08/12/2021 10:12

Sorry that should read woke NOT work - why is there no edit button!!

I think the point is that being a decent human being and caring for your family ,doesn't mean you would be any good as a prime minister.

Fuck's sake, must we, again?

  • no one seeking refuge is arriving illegally
  • a) is it 80% young men? is it really? b) even if it were, have a quick think about possible reasons why young men might be a heavily represented group of people making arduous and long journeys away from family. There are a couple of clues in my question if you need help.

She can't implement anything because it's a very complex problem to which she proposes simple solutions that don't work practically or legally. A bit like Brexit really.
HangingDitch · 08/12/2021 10:15

I must have missed something, are we taking about the relative merits of Johnson and Starmer to run the country or present a game show?

All this about Starmer being dull and lacking charm or charisma - he’s a potential future Prime Minister, not auditioning to be a red coat at Butlins.

Cattenberg · 08/12/2021 10:15

Sadly, I think this is true. I can’t vote Tory because I disagree with most of their policies, but I can’t vote for any of the others either. If nothing changes, I’ll be spoiling a ballot paper in the next election.
loveablequalities · 08/12/2021 10:19

@Blinkingbatshit

I just can't agree with that. I understand that Labour have been blind to the realities of self id and so on but surely it's better to have the discussion, talk about it, write to mps etc. Make your view heard to a GOVERNMENT rather than an opposition. It seems clear to me that the Conservatives are actively working against women in practically every single area. From food banks to single hours contracts to childcare to healthcare and beyond time and time again their policies and decisions are disproportionately affecting women and children. A bit of harrumphing about not being "woke" on their part does NOT mean that they care about women and they have proven that over and over again.

mewkins · 08/12/2021 10:19

My mum no longer defends him. This is a good barometer of how far he has gone downhill. I reckon he will be gone by March. Not entirely sure he wants the job anymore anyway.

Wokahontas · 08/12/2021 10:19

He has run out of credits. I don't think it is a good idea to replace the party right now. The last thing we need is Labour navel-gazing in the middle of a pandemic, but it is time for Bojo to go.

There are lots of people who are more trustworthy than BoJo e.g. Savid Javed, Rishi, Michael Gove. All total b'stards but could steer the ship a bit better as a team rather than a megalomaniac.

Poetrypatty · 08/12/2021 10:20

I think the point is that being a decent human being and caring for your family ,doesn't mean you would be any good as a prime minister

Maybe not, but I for one would be keen to try this right now

Warmhandscoldheart · 08/12/2021 10:21

My prediction is the Torys will have a new leader by Spring. This man and his sycophants are lurching from one bad decision to another then have the temerity to lie to each and every one of us to cover their own backs.

onlychildhamster · 08/12/2021 10:22

No He would stay. He got away with worse.

This is bad, but I think there are lots of people who think 'its just a party'.

They have themselves in knots just to justify Boris' reign. A lot of them think that Boris being in power is going to magically uplift their town.

I think when it is clear 5-10 years down the road that levelling up never worked and they are poorer than they were before, the northern towns that voted Johnson will vote against him.
