Will Johnson be gone before Christmas or after?

Sarahlou63 · 07/12/2021 22:38

I'm thinking the 1922 committee grandees will run out of patience fairly soon. So will Johnson stand aside to be a better parent before Christmas or will he continue to drag his party into the shit into 2022?

YABU - hangs on for grim death

YANBU - Who the fuck is Johnson?

She is battling to reduce immigration despite no gov having any success in doing that since 2003.

She's opening her mouth and making a lot of noise about stupid ideas like wave machines to push inflatable boats back. Which in practice would probably capsize them and cause drownings. I don't call that 'battling'. And the gall of it coming from a woman whose parents were economic migrants - because they left long before Amin threw out Ugandan Asians.

Peregrina · 09/12/2021 20:35

Fact is loads of people breached the rules, I don’t think most Tory voters see it as a hanging offence,

Fact is, the loads of people in question didn't make the rules.Tory voters would be most certainly screaming about it being a hanging offence if this happened under a Labour Government.

Seahorsemama · 09/12/2021 20:54

Omg reading everything priti Patel has voted against has made my stomach turn. What a vile woman. How can someone as cold be in politics?

Pinksloth · 09/12/2021 21:00
@Pinksloth “he supposes himself to be Winston Churchill, while in reality being closer to Alan Partridge.” 🤣🤣🤣
Yep!

And We can scarcely strip the emperor’s clothes from a man who has built a career, or at least a lurid love life, out of strutting without them

🤣🤣🤣

madisonbridges · 09/12/2021 21:10

@Hearwego

We need a strong opposition, Labour being the only party to do that. But I don’t think Starmer is the right candidate. Maybe someone like Andy Burnham would make me vote Labour.
That's interesting. Being from Manchester it's nice to hear that an elected representative from my hometown is popular. So can I ask, what has he done thar has made you want to vote for him?
fetchacloth · 09/12/2021 21:13

@AutumnAlmanack

You know - we debate the rights and wrongs of the current Government and Boris, but the truth is we just want to be led out of this current woeful situation. When, oh when will we get over this bloody virus - that is quite honestly all I care about at the moment!
Me too FWIW. That should be the government's main focus now.
Franklin12 · 09/12/2021 21:24

Yes. Let’s focus on getting out of this pandemic. Reunite families who haven’t met for 2 years. Get the travel industry back. Not get bogged down with a potential party and whether they had sausage rolls. It was wall to wall news today.

the80sweregreat · 09/12/2021 21:35

It is a big deal though , I feel that we need to know the truth.
The lies and cover ups didn't work on this occasion and this isn't going away.
The pandemic affected every single person in some way. We had to make a lot of sacrifices and a lot of people are still suffering because of it. These people broke the rules and it should be investigated. They thought they were above the rules , it needs to be made clear that they were not , even if it did all happen a year ago.
I suppose it'll be another whitewash , but why people feel this is important , I totally understand.
People won't follow any rules now anyway. It's done a lot of damage from a public health perspective because they fancied a bit of do.

whenwillthemadnessend · 09/12/2021 21:37

The Tory's can push him out if they feel they are loosing face. We won't get a new election until ones due.

My moneys on Sunak

DebHagland · 09/12/2021 22:08

The only way to get rid of him is for someone to convince the blithering idiot that 10 Downing Street has been relocated to Peppa Pig World.
My stepfather named him "bullshit Boris" years ago.......think it hits the nail on the head

whenwillthemadnessend · 09/12/2021 22:22

I believe the Tory vultures have begun to circle. The plotting has begun and he will be gone by end of Jan.

Willing to bet on it.

GoodPrincessWenceslas · 09/12/2021 22:27

There must surely come a time when the Tories realise that the fact that Boris has managed to survive elections so far isn't enough: that their party is losing all credibility, and that the government is a laughing stock when it comes to dealing with other governments. If they are seen to be happy to condone lying, incompetence and outright corruption, it will be thrown at them for decades to come. It's ime to put a stop to it.

ClowningAround21 · 09/12/2021 22:36

Maybe someone like Andy Burnham would make me vote Labour

Until the media tell you he is weak/too northern/served under Blair/too left wing/failed health secretary/can't eat a burger etc etc

Then we will all be on here calling for a strong opposition and a new leader "we can all get behind"

Starmer is a former lawyer and DPP, if you can't see he is way above Johnson & worth voting for, then there is no hope.

julieca · 09/12/2021 22:45

Andy Burnham would never get elected.
Starmer would be a good Prime Minister.

MarshaBradyo · 09/12/2021 22:46

I don’t mind Starmer and would prefer him to Burnham

It’s just his policies - I’ve heard so far- I can’t get on board with

Plus woman issue

MarshaBradyo · 09/12/2021 22:50

And I really don’t like AR

Selkiesarereal · 09/12/2021 23:00

I think the Tory vultures are out so it is only a matter of time, I think he will hang on a little longer but will be gone by next Christmas.

That’s the thing with the Tories they are utterly ruthless in getting rid of their leaders.

SunscreenCentral · 09/12/2021 23:01

@AnotherOneWithNoGoodName

First past the post is going to fuck us all for a long time. Don't forget that more people cast votes for non-Tories last GE, but they still won a massive majority because of the system.
This, this and this.
RedToothBrush · 09/12/2021 23:01

Rumour is tonight that 60 Tory MPs are set to rebel on vaccine passports. The numbers in the commons mean he needs opposition support to pass vaccine passports in the commons.

If Johnson isn't doing what the backbenchers want and is defying their wishes, why do they want to keep him as PM?

To trigger a leadership challenge it needs 15% of the parliamentary party to submit letters to the 1922 committee. The party currently has 361 seats so thats 55 letters needed (if they lose the upcoming byelection its 54).

So we are about at the point where its entirely possible that discontent is sufficient to oust him, if those rebels were so inclined.

Sarahlou63 · 09/12/2021 23:02

@Rachand23

Hardly going to sack the man when he’s on paternity leave are they!
Don't be naive.

He will, on reflection, realise that the issues of the last few days have taken the emphasis away from the crucial problem that currently faces the nation which is the threat of omicron to the national health. And on that basis he will make the ultimate sacrifice of stepping down from his position to spend time with his 57th child and allow some unfortunate sap to step into his size 22 clown boots and try not to fall flat on their face. In a socially acceptable timescale he will take up his rightful place on the global speaking circuit and earn a squillion pounds by talking bollocks and shagging waitresses.

(I'll happily take wagers on this scenario not happening in the next 3 months).

@Sarahlou63

As more comes out and there is a lot more, its possible he could be gone within days.

This is interesting

By Tuesday we might have more information on Omicron too

He seems determined re plan B even with reduced support from party

The part that worries me more is what they would vote for if situation got worse

Hopefully Robert Halfon bill will go through

Seasidemumma77 · 09/12/2021 23:20

We're British, we'll be nice, he's had a baby, we'll wait to oust him to January

Spot the posters who are unfamiliar with the history of the 1922 Committee and the nature of Tory Party Leadership Elections.

Let me explain: they are bastards who would run over and kill their own grannies on their mums birthday if it meant they had a shot at being PM.

tldr · 09/12/2021 23:35

I don’t at all believe they’ll oust him yet, not because they support him, but simply because no-one else wants the job right now.

Next summer/autumn.
