Will Johnson be gone before Christmas or after?

Sarahlou63 · 07/12/2021 22:38

I'm thinking the 1922 committee grandees will run out of patience fairly soon. So will Johnson stand aside to be a better parent before Christmas or will he continue to drag his party into the shit into 2022?

YABU - hangs on for grim death

YANBU - Who the fuck is Johnson?

@Libertaire

The more I learn about Johnson, his personality & his character, the more I think he has some sort of cognitive problem.

He isn’t just an habitual, amoral and fluent liar, he doesn’t even appear to understand what the words ‘truth’ ‘honesty’ & ‘lies’ mean. The concepts seem entirely alien to him. He just says & does whatever is expedient at that particular moment, irrespective of its relationship with reality. Yet he’s the actual Prime Minister. It’s baffling 🤷🏻‍♀️.

This article says it all.

You know - we debate the rights and wrongs of the current Government and Boris, but the truth is we just want to be led out of this current woeful situation. When, oh when will we get over this bloody virus - that is quite honestly all I care about at the moment!

This is where I’m at

I did see a good news post re new variant today - fingers crossed big time

Petlover9 · 09/12/2021 19:16

@CherryBlossomAutumn

He’s not going anywhere. He learned from Trump that you can just ride anything. Most people don’t care.

I do. I care.

Hope anyone who voted for him regrets it.

The main reason he got in was because there was no credible opposition, still isn't. Wouldn't it be nice to have a decent PM with no agenda but to serve the country, use taxes wisely and stop illegal immigration. Also one without a second job - not writing books as Boris was. I looked at the MP's we voted in and there isn't one who appears capable. The country is in debt and whoever runs it is not going to be popular but we need a strong, sensible leader who doesn't bluster and doesn't treat the people like idiots
TiddleTaddleTat · 09/12/2021 19:20

Sunak is waiting in the wings.
Johnson’s allies are turning against him.
Can’t stand the man; he’s dangerous, but I’m not enjoying the spectacle of him being pulled apart by the tories.

longwayoff · 09/12/2021 19:20

@YourenutsmiLord, you really are. Bloody hell.

Flapjacker48 · 09/12/2021 19:24

Priti Patel is a right wing airhead who takes out her frustrations at her own failings by screaming at her staff. And you want her as PM Hmm

Flapjacker48 · 09/12/2021 19:27

@YourenutsmiLord When patel was at DWP she bullied a female member of staff who ended up with a 25k payout. So cut the "priti is the victim of misogyny" rubbish.

hayley037 · 09/12/2021 19:29

@YourenutsmiLord

What's Priti Patel done that's so bad apart from be a woman. She is battling to reduce immigration despite no gov having any success in doing that since 2003. She is battling to stop the face stuck to road protesters with her legal bill (debateable that it's a good idea but at least she is doing something). Apparently she needs to be empathetic - you mean like all our other male MPs.

Few bits of easy to find evidence to show that she should be nowhere near the front bench of government, let alone have a shot of being Prime Minister.

She is an absolutely revolting woman, should really be in UKIP or the BNP but the Tories have absorbed that kind of far right populism in recent years which is why we find ourselves where we do.

TheRemotePart · 09/12/2021 19:36

I can’t believe there’s people on here that don’t see that Patel is a sociopath…Shock

nancybotwinbloom · 09/12/2021 19:37

I just wonder does he actually go to bed of a night and think "I'm cut out for this, I'm doing well" or what?

ruabon1977 · 09/12/2021 19:41

I wish Mr Johnson would be gone, but don't see it happening before Christmas. I think he is the worst Prime Minister in British history ever.

I expect Rishi Sunak at some point to succeed him. Michael Gove does not have enough support from MPs to get to the final ballot, Liz Truss's private life will be counted against her even though it is double standards, and Priti Patel would be electoral self-wounding for the Tories ever to consider her.

GreenLunchBox · 09/12/2021 19:41

Priti Patel's dad ran for election for UKIP. Explains a lot. Vile woman.

Whatamess582 · 09/12/2021 19:42

Slippery little fucker will manage to hold on for another few years i think

Galdos · 09/12/2021 19:43

Interesting too that all the adult Tory MPs with experience and gravitas were defenestrated by Boris once he became leader ... that there are so few credible PM alternatives is down to Boris: he likes a compliant 'yes boss.'

There has to be an election by May 2024. If the Tory party see Boris as an electoral liability he will be defenestrated some 12-18 months earlier. But working out if he is a liability means working out how many seats the Tories may lose with him in charge, and there will be a limited number where there will be doubt. Especially if Starmer/Labour continue to appear so lacklustre.

Hearwego · 09/12/2021 19:44

We need a strong opposition, Labour being the only party to do that. But I don’t think Starmer is the right candidate.
Maybe someone like Andy Burnham would make me vote Labour.

EmKayEm · 09/12/2021 19:45

He can't go before Christmas, they are bringing forward the break to Tuesday to avoid another PMQ before New Year.

Afreshstart2021 · 09/12/2021 19:46

I think some of the posts on this thread are a bit wishful thinking, I’m afraid.
I’m not defending Johnson, I’m just stating facts. He won a landslide majority, when one wasn’t necessarily expected, in 2019.
He is extremely popular with the working class Tory vote. Lots of others like him too. Yes he has his vocal critics but they’re the vocal ones on Twitter. I remember in the 2019 election if you went on Twitter it was all about Corbyn coming in and tories out etc. Well that didn’t happen did it.

The key thing about the Tories is that they want to stay in power whatever. And Boris is a vote winner in a way that Gove, Truss etc will never be.

Sunak could be a replacement, but I am not sure he has that Everyman touch that boris does have.

FutureHope · 09/12/2021 19:48

Really really hope he goes. The lack of integrity and common decency is astounding.

But will it be remembered at the ballot box? I don’t know.

The optimistic part of me hopes so. But then we need an opposition. Keir starmer where are you?! Come out!,

XingMing · 09/12/2021 19:49

And again, I remind you of the 80 seat majority. Even if he loses the next 10 bye-elections, he will really have to upset a large number of people who aren't interested in politics to be ousted by the 1922 committee.

LuluBlakey1 · 09/12/2021 19:56

@RedToothBrush In the Spectator yesterday, the latest poll showed the LibDems on 7 or 8%- less than in the last election and Labour slightly in the lead over the Conservatives, which is terrible given the shameful behaviour of this Conservative government.

This government and PM have shown the absolute worst of Tory behaviours to anyone more vulnerable than themselves and have favoured hugely the wealthy, big business and themselves. They are a disgrace.

ClowningAround21 · 09/12/2021 19:58

That is yesterdays news, the Tory party will drop Bojo faster than a hot potato if they think he cannot deliver at the next GE.

But for the time being the jury is out, quite literally!

Libertaire · 09/12/2021 20:05

@Pinksloth “he supposes himself to be Winston Churchill, while in reality being closer to Alan Partridge.” 🤣🤣🤣

Overdon · 09/12/2021 20:21

Fact is loads of people breached the rules, I don’t think most Tory voters see it as a hanging offence, especially if the were co workers having a few drinks and nibbles in the office 🤷‍♀️
Personally I find Rab’s fiasco with the Afghan evacuation more concerning.
