Will Johnson be gone before Christmas or after?

Sarahlou63 · 07/12/2021 22:38

I'm thinking the 1922 committee grandees will run out of patience fairly soon. So will Johnson stand aside to be a better parent before Christmas or will he continue to drag his party into the shit into 2022?

YABU - hangs on for grim death

YANBU - Who the fuck is Johnson?

Starmer isnt utterly useless.
And parties dont win elections, the reigning party loses the election. It has always been the case.

@Afreshstart2021

The thing is, he’s really popular. Just not with everyone posting on this thread. But people really like him and vote for him. He’s not going anywhere. Starmer is utterly useless.
I wouldnt be so sure. Type Boris into Twitter.

Have you read Conservative home today?!

Its wearing very thin.

Also in case anyone is wondering what news could be buried today take a look at the fine for donations to the Conservative party and the refurbishment of No10 and the Gisela Stuart appointment...

Octavia174 · 09/12/2021 15:21

He doesn't need to be popular, just seen as better than the opposition, BJ has a v large base, just like Trump.

Unlike Labour supporters, they turn out and vote.

RoastPotatoQueen · 09/12/2021 15:30

He will hang on like a leech until he's sucked the tax payers dry and then make his exit.
Plan B and the baby is all a distraction don't let it fool you.

Franklin12 · 09/12/2021 16:08

Sadly I think SITC might be a disappointment! They look SO much older (just like the rest of us!) and I dont think it will be as good without Sam!

Putting a black replacement in is a bit woke/PC.

I hope its good. Will be watching at 2100...

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 09/12/2021 16:13

The 1922 Committee require letters to act IIRC. I reckon he'll be gone by March. Labour can't force an election as the Conservative majority is too big. So that gives someone new 2 years to get them back on track. I think there will be a fair few putting themselves forward.

MarshaBradyo · 09/12/2021 16:16

The question is whether any other Cons leader can get that kind of majority

They might get the party but they also need the public

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 09/12/2021 16:18

They don't need to worry about the majority until 2024.

MarshaBradyo · 09/12/2021 16:21

Still they should want to win. Otherwise they’ve squandered it.

Fine they get a couple of years but most who lead should be able to win, be chosen for that reason

Although this is not always the case - see last election and opposition

inferiorCatSlave · 09/12/2021 16:29

Still they should want to win. Otherwise they’ve squandered it.

They've had about 200 years of fighting elections and are considered one of the oldest poltical parties in the world - of course they want to win.

However they have time - time to get past covid - time for everyone to be done with Boris - and time for a new leader to be in charge. I'd be suprised if Boris is still there this time next year - though he considered a teflon politician and walks way from shit others wouldn't - but don't see him going before this Christmas.

Though pepper pig speach and party denials and all the lies and other shit is starting to stick.

MarshaBradyo · 09/12/2021 16:31

Maybe.

Labour first seem to get memo re winning.

Who would go down with public as well in Cons in your opinion?

MarshaBradyo · 09/12/2021 16:31

To Inferior

Franklin12 · 09/12/2021 16:32

There were rumours during last GE that Labour didnt want to win. They just wanted to be in Opposition. Even on GE night Momentum didnt seem that disappointed. Some of the Labour MP's were furious but Momentum didnt seem that bothered. Seeing Owen Jones being intereviewed was laughable.

That great interview with Alan Johnson and that twit who was running Momentum was a classic example. Alan was fuming and Momentum didnt seem to be that concerned.

Whoever though that McDonnell and Corbyn were leadership material need their heads examined yet they pushed them forward.

We need a strong Opposition to keep the other side in check yet there isnt a Tony Blair in the wings. There is literally no one. Starmer is rubbish, Raynor is a joke and Lammy just jumps on any woke agenda he can.

I like Cooper but she doesnt seem to want to run the Labour Party so no wonder they will lose the next election and probably the one after both of which Johnson might not choose to fight.

MarshaBradyo · 09/12/2021 16:33

Didn’t seem… not first

Sarahlou63 · 09/12/2021 16:37

I think his decision to take a few family days will be extended into permanency - it's a face saving exercise (of sorts) for him and a chance for the 1922 to install a caretaker until the NY.

But who??

OP posts:
Peregrina · 09/12/2021 16:46

I can't see him extending his paternity leave and nor will he want to sit on the backbenches. So I think it will need to be the men in grey suits who come for him and at the moment not enough Tory MPs are against him.

inferiorCatSlave · 09/12/2021 16:53

Not sure Sunak possibly though not as widspread or as strong appeal- though TBH it's who the grassroots conservatives think of as a better bet for them and public probably not going to be same as me.

If the opposition remains weak and we get months of Boris fuckups I don't think they'd need wide spread appeal -just competency. That's partly why I think he'll be kept a bit longer as pressure builds and everyone is desperate for a change.

I did think recent Labour reshuffle maybe Labour was getting serious but the whole thing with the deputy gave opposite impression.

Peregrina · 09/12/2021 16:58

Hmm, skin the wrong colour for the grassroots members, I would guess. They might excuse Patel because she's ultra right wing. The grassroots probably favour Truss - who would be totally incompetent if current performance is anything to judge by.

MarshaBradyo · 09/12/2021 17:01

I rate Sunak generally as an economist but I don’t know if he can take the public with him

Once upon a time, ie a couple of years ago, I thought Starmer v Sunak would be a good bash (I have no allegiance, floating voter) but now I feel uninspired by that

I don’t know much about Liz Truss at all

RedToothBrush · 09/12/2021 17:01

I think the timing of this is interesting. Remember how long leadership campaigns are. May stayed PM throughout.

We roughly know that the omicron wave is going to be jan/feb.

So 1922ing him in the near future might just oust him at peak crisis or just after but you've got a good fall guy.

Theres nothing like a Tory Backstabbing session. The Sunday Newspapers this week will be very interesting (vote on passports isnt til next week).

Franklin12 · 09/12/2021 17:21

If Labour force yet another election and they lose (highly likely!) that is another 4 years of Tories. How daft would that be? They were at a very low point with Corbyn and McDonnell.

Could they possibly get it wrong again??

EvilPea · 09/12/2021 17:30

He will hope it will all blow over whilst he’s on maternity

cherish123 · 09/12/2021 17:32

Hopefully

longwayoff · 09/12/2021 17:36

Gove's very quiet, he must be happily slithering about in this maelstrom. Possibly chanting "I told you what he was like."
