Off to DD & DS friends party this morning on my only day of rest 😩 and it just made me think who in their right mind has a kids party at this time?

Their having chips & nuggets and pizza at 11:30!!

Is this the norm or am I just not a morning person?

Our DC were the odd children that liked a long lie from early on. 10.30 parties never bothered me though, all done early afternoon to enjoy the rest of the day.

BeenHereForAges · 05/12/2021 12:47

Fab timing. Gives you the rest of the day to do Sunday stuff.
Love an early party.

Motherdare · 05/12/2021 12:49

My favourite party slot is 11-1. Not too early but the whole thing is done and dusted by lunchtime and doesn’t take over your whole weekend. Lunch usually served at 12/12:30. Perfect.

My pet hate is Sunday afternoon parties!

mugoftea456 · 05/12/2021 12:50

@DreamerSeven

I love early parties as it frees up the rest of the day for family activities.
I agree
honeylulu · 05/12/2021 12:50

@Marianne1234
I'm an owl too and sometimes baulk at those who imply that early rising is virtuous, but I don't think there has been any of that on this thread

You say yourself you are all up and about by 8.30 so a morning kids party at 10ish is hardly a problem for you anyway(?)

Cupcakeschocolate · 05/12/2021 12:52

We have a 9:45 am Sunday one coming up at a trampoline park

mushroom3 · 05/12/2021 12:52

It sounds very sensible as they will be eating lunch at around 12, so lunchtime and you'll have the afternoon for other activities.

Hankunamatata · 05/12/2021 12:55

People who have small children who get up early anyway

Hankunamatata · 05/12/2021 12:56

I prefer sunday afternoon parties as don't clash with anything

LoopyGremlin · 05/12/2021 12:58

When my kids were younger we tried to book late morning parties as it left the rest of the day free, plus I couldn’t bear the constant “is it time yet?”!

ilovesushi · 05/12/2021 12:58

When mine were little I remember doing a similar earlyish party plus lunch. My thoughts were to free up the rest of the day for people to do something as a family. I had a mixed response - some people liked the timing, some thought it was inconvenient. Those that weren't so keen tended to be up and out at the crack of dawn and it cut into their morning activities.

Princesspickle777 · 05/12/2021 13:01

Seems pretty normal to me. My DD’s party is at 11am next week. They’ll be eating at 12. My kids eat lunch between 11:30 & 12 anyway. Granted they’re 1 & 3 so our days start at 6am 😅.

amsadandconfused · 05/12/2021 13:02

I have three children…all adults now and can honestly say they never went to a party that early. Midday at the earliest.

Kippersfortea · 05/12/2021 13:03

They eat school lunch at around noon at most schools, so only a tiny bit earlier for hot food. I think anything after 10am is totally normal time for a weekend activity.
Between 9am-10am is on the early side but still reasonable.
Before 9am? Hell no!

Do people really have kids who lie in that much more on the weekends? I maybe get an extra half hour if I'm really lucky.

notanotherschoolrun · 05/12/2021 13:05

I've never been to one that early before but at least it is over and done with now. To be honest on a Sunday we will stay in bed late and the kids will get into our bed watch a bit of tele and have breakfast. So it's an early start for us on a Sunday.

I never said I didn't like it and I wouldn't turn down an invite when it's for my kids.I was just shocked I've never been to a kids party at 10:30 in the morning.

I always try and hold parties in the morning, it means my whole day isn't taken up with it and they can go home after lunch then we open the gifts. It's the best timing for parties (and I am not a morning person but children get up regardless!)

Cattipuss · 05/12/2021 13:06

I haven't been to an early one but would much prefer it. Get it over and done with and have the afternoon free!

Kippersfortea · 05/12/2021 13:09

Earliest ever one I've been to was 9.15am on a Saturday morning. Which would have been fine except it was 45mins drive away/ over an hour on public transport and I didn't have a car

Vickles20 · 05/12/2021 13:15

I’m a children’s party entertainer. And I often offer 11am starts. I prefer them. It means the kids are full of energy and not tired. And it means I can then be free to spend the afternoon with my family if I don’t have a second party.

pictish · 05/12/2021 13:22

Sensible people who get it over and done with early doors leaving the rest of the day free…particularly good on the weekend.

I’d far rather a 10.30 job that a 2pm that demands the entire day revolves around the party.

MeltedButter · 05/12/2021 13:24

I prefer morning ones cos then it's out of the way. At my son's primary school they have lunch at 11:30am anyway.

Kippersfortea · 05/12/2021 13:48

Morning parties are my preference definitely (and I'm not a morning person!)

We've had Saturdays where we have two parties one at about 10am the other not until 3ish. That really does take up the whole day! But it's so lovely they have so much fun, and so many less because of Covid. I wouldn't begrudge taking them whatever the time

EnidFrighten · 05/12/2021 13:51

We've been up for five hours by then

People who start parties at 3, on the other hand, are very unreasonable

hangrylady · 05/12/2021 13:53

Completely normal. God some people will find any excuse to moan.

yikesanotherbooboo · 05/12/2021 15:26

I used to like them as per pp ; it meant the whole day wasn't dominated by the party logistics.
